  • This Post Has No Title

Yesterday was one more reminder why I am glad to be done with the public school system.

Let me draw you a picture.

I walk into the school.  I have walked in the school a million times, for six straight years, where my face, if not my name, is well known.

I wanted to buy a DVD of the senior sleep over since I missed the hypnotist.

There is a sign that says PLEASE ENTER THROUGH THE MAIN OFFICE.  I walk in and walk up to desk one.  Secretary who knows me is sitting at the desk.  I tell her I need to pay for a senior night dvd.  She tells me in a gruff tone that she needs to see an ID and that I need to fill out the name sticker.  I say " wow, I didn't expect that."  I dig through my purse and wallet and look for my never used licence.  I scribble my name on the tag, and the date, and time, my mothers maiden name, my social security number, the date I said my first word, the names of my last three pets, and the make of my dads first car.

She says " Well, I don't know anything about DVDs you need to talk to Peggy."  Peggy's desk is two feet away.

I understand the big security issue now.  I might turn into someone else in the half a second it takes me to walk to Peggy's desk.  I might make a run for it and put bubbles in the pool.  Who knows what I might do, and it's very important they have all my information.  Even though they could just tell the cops " it was Mrs. Exspunge", now there would be actual proof, although the proof would be on my name tag, which is right above my right breast.

But who am I to question?  I am sure someone, somewhere, knows why I have to wear a name tag to step to a desk that is in the same room as where I filled out the name tag.  I just need to find them.

I step over to Peggy's desk and explain why I'm there.  Peggy tells me the forms are next to original secretary's desk.

I step back to desk one and fill out the form and write a check for $12.99.  I step back to Peggy's desk, hand her the form and the check.  She writes me a receipt.

I step out of the school and know that next year, with my kids long gone, Jennie in Africa, Matt in Indiana,  I'll probably look for excuses to walk into that damn school.

But the great part is, I don't HAVE to.

I have moved on to college red tape and paper work.

    Ain't education great?

  • and.......you can say aint without being corrected....LOL...

  • I work for the government, so I know all about that damned red tape!!! :hot21:

  • Ain't public education grand? At least they didn't send in the drug sniffing dogs on you.

  • I totally feel your frustrations. It may just be me, but it seems that those who want to do harm will NOT stop at the desk and register no matter what the stupid rules are.

  • fabulous. i love how they do all the little things like name tags. like that'll really make the kids in algebra feel safer. at least when the gunman comes in they'll know his name.

  • Some people just say things because it's routine. Like the guy who works at the sports clothing place. We stop in before a movie and Mr F buys a Stoudemire jersey. The guy asks, "So...are you going to the Suns game tonight?" Stupid question since they were playing in San Antonio that night.

  • At least they took your check.....  Here they stop taking personal checks for anything a month before school is out. :question29: Makes it a real pain in the watusi since that's right when all the payments for the dds cheerleading start coming due.  I guess they're afraid we'll write them a bad check, move & not leave a forwarding address over the summer!!!

  • LOL...once my #3 kid graduated in 2003 I walked out of that school & have never gone back!  I start thinking about all the *crap* they put the students AND parents through & I never want to see any of them again (& I worked there!)  It was SUCH a relief to finally be done with them....I'm sure you are doing the happy dance right now! :woohoo19:

  • I think all high school office ladies hail from the same hot place!  LOL  Seems that way, though, doesn't it?  Though I miss some of the kids' activities, I don't miss being in the school system, either.  It's kind of liberating to be free of it!

  • :greensmileys38: OMG:greensmileys38:
I can relate. Dont get me started on public
    school:sillygrin28:
<<<<<<Girrrlll, are ya in enough blogrings<<<<<
    :hahahahaha18:

  • I forsee you and my mom doing some covert operation to get into the choir room or something... you guys are gonna miss it sooooo much

  • :blur6: I am sooo glad I homeschool. :blur6::blur6::blur6:

:bubblegum36: I know all about the red tape but damn.  :bubblegum36:

:question29::question29: Who makes the rules anyway and types up alll the stupid paper work anyway??????:question29::question29::question29:

  • Taxpayer's dollars hard at work justifying the taxpayer's dollars.  At least it was desk one and desk two rather than floor one and floor two.  That would have been worse.  Nothing like having to do the legwork for your taxpayers dollars.  College red tape can be much much worse.  They have departments that are degreed in giving you the run around.  Hilarious post, btw.

  • public schooling is getting ridiculous in some aspects.  but now you are onto bigger and better things....college!  my oldest just turned 15 yesterday....so i am just beginning with the high school drama really.  :o mg24:

  • Ours is kinda like that too!  And even though I went there all my life,  and went to school with the teachers,  and I even subbed one year!.........But at least the secretary's are nice,  even though they have the strict rules!

  • I have been out of the public school system for a year now, and I can honestly say that the worst college red tape has been more reasonable than the local school system's.

  • That is ridiculous. I think you should visit that school often. I think you should visit it every day, and each day have a non-traditional form of ID: your very first library card, a picture of yourself holding a sign that says your name...

  • Crazy, ain't it?!

  • Only in college edyecation, they make you fill out all that crap and give your fingerprints and then they won't talk to you because your child isn't a child, they are an adult, completely independent, even though the check for the 19,716 dollars comes from you. Did I miss what is next for Matt?

  • Some organizations would do well to just train their upfront people.

  • Isn't it good that terrorists and bombers and gun-toting teens are compliant with front desk "sign in" policies? That's what makes that school security SO worth it.

  • Ohmigosh....this is TOO FUNNY!  You'll surely win the award today for making me laugh the hardest....LOL.

  • How disorganized of them to have you go back and forth rather them get off their azz to do it.  Yes, you have finished all of that and college will be much easier

  • Next time, wear a t-shirt with all the necessary information on it and then ask them if you still need a name tag.

  • Make that two cafe-mocha-vodka-valium-lattes to go please.

  • Consider yourself lucky.  If you had actually wanted to visit a classroom, you would have been strip-searched.

  • It's almost more complicated to sign into a school than to purchase a home, and that's saying something! Love your aneroxic barbie profile pic -- that's a version we don't have yet :sillygrin28:

  • :sunflowers26::sun3::penguin9::browndog33:Oh cool!!!! I love these smilies!!!!!!:bubblegum36::tigger34::flowerkiss12::bird7:  Anyways, thanks for checking out my son's video on my site!!!  Yes...good ole school red tape!  I had to pick up my son from school for a orthodontist appointment, and after I had to go through all the security stuff to get to the front desk...they could not locate not only my son...but it seemed as though his whole class was missing!!!!  They finally found them after I waited so long he almost missed his appointment!

    Take care!

    Suzanne

  • Educated Idiots All!!!   Isn't it scary what a little schooling will do to people.  Hope your weekend is a great one.  As we all know graduations beckon, so will be out of town for the weekend and will be around after the first of the week to see what everyone has been up to.

  • I like Daylily's idea.  Go there regularly, just to make those silly bureaucratic secretaries jump through hoops.

  • How can you publish a post without a title?  (Even one as funny as this one deserves a title.)

  • In the school's defense, it might not be their fault. They probably think the name tag is as dumb as you do. My church has a school. There are 140 students and most are church members. All of the teachers/staff/etc. are church members. In other words, everyone knows everyone.

The school was told this year by the department of children & family services that in order to be licensed as as "daycare provider" (apparently, schools other than official public schools are considered daycares) ... they have to abide by "safety provisions" and one of those ridiculous provisions is that any visitor must wear a name tag and sign in and out at the front desk.

  • I'm not done w/ schools yet but am leaving the middle
    school after 2 kids and 6 years....I'm ready...I've had
enough of them...LOL  On my way to Int. High
    Danielle's senior year!!

  • my son will be starting hs in the fall and i could just cry seems like yesterday he was just crawling on the floor
