  • Cocaine

I was going to blog about this awhile ago and I completely forgot.  A few months ago the boys at work were all a buzz ( no pun intended) about a new energy drink called Cocaine.

This was being marketed as an alternative to the real cocaine.  Some of the boys were stupid and thought the drug cocaine was now legal because it was in drink form, I had to explain while gritting my teeth that, no, cocaine was not legal now.

Actually I'm not even sure if the drink is legal for sale.  There was something about the FDA and false claims and something about the name.

I'm not really sure, I'm too lazy to check it out, but you can feel free to go here.

What I did get from my brief look at the website, is that they seemed to be bragging about the FDA thing and the fact that they were being taken off store shelves and were controversial.

I'm not sure if it's a marketing nightmare or genius.  Probably genius.

I wouldn't like the drink Cocaine.  I think it would give me anxiety.  I would rather have a drink called Marijuana.

In fact I think I should make a wine cooler type drink and name it Weed.   I could put in some mellowing herbs and supplements, plus the booze and of course the kool-aide taste.

Sure I'd be accused of marketing to under aged drinkers, but who cares, after I made the big bucks I could have an anti teen drinking campaign.

I would be a true American mogul.

You  can be my test market.

Would you buy a drink called Weed as an alternative to the street drug Marijuana?  Cocaine?

    Let me know.

  • Coca-cola was named for it's main ingredent, Cocaine.   It's been removed now in formula X-7 (classic coke)

  • Cocane energy drink was pulled off shelves partly because of it's name, and partly because it has the equivelent of like 5 16oz rockstar energy drinks in an 8oz can.  You can still buy it online.  they did try renaming it (can't think what they called it) and gave it the slogan "Banned by THE MAN". I am going to buy some online, but sure enough I would definitly drink your weed drink, too.  I love energy drinks, BTW, and that is going to be the main topic of one of my nextest posts :)

  • The name could work for you...to the health conscious, who already drink "grass juice" it's surely a step up, eh?  :) t

  • Drinking something called Cocaine? Pass. Sounds..scary. But Weed as a drink. Brilliant! :)

  • I think your drink sounds more my speed-I would buy it.

  • Weed as a drink? I'm thinking it would look too much like wheatgrass and I'd pass on that. I like my drinks to taste sweet but have zero calories. I bet Weed drink would make me hungry too!

  • yeah thay snatched that shit off the shelves as fast as it went up.  ,and  corperations need to leave that shit alone. we teach kids through programs like dare and other local programs  then we wanna sell them a product like that.  now  several years ago  i might have wanted a six pack or so of that shit and a straw oor a rolled up dollar.   ha ha ha   have a great week end see ya !

  • whoa, man! that's trippy! think i'm having flashbacks... weed? sure ... why not? go ask alice!

  • i'd try your drink!  i think i'd love it :)

  • Make the drink.  Take a drink of it.  While high, post about the experience.

  • You sure would be an American Mogul ... the next Donald Trump or Bill Gates!!  I would drink it .. and I think I will develop a liquid Xanax .. that's what I really need!!!  Hell, whatever gets you through life, right??

    Enjoy your Sunday, Laura!! Alicia

  • i would say none of the above drink names appeal to me. Maybe if there was one called "tight ass" I'd try it

  • I hear the makers of  Cocaine are also marketing a fruit-flavored children's drink called "Antifreeze."

  • Love the new layout!  :)   very creative!  Yes,  I think I would drink the weed drink,  unless it gave me the munchies,  then I might need some drink called heroin, to balance me out!  :P

  • Dear Laura,

In the 70s, there was a candy that actually contained rum. For the life of me I can't remember the name of this confection (and an internet search has yeilded no help), but it didn't last long before they pulled it off the shelves of markets.

Coca Cola actually did contain cocaine in the 20s, back when it was still legal.

Back in the early 70s, we all thought marijuana would be legal by now, and you would be able to go into a seven eleven and buy Panama Reds, etc.

Re: earlier entry about a speaker device for announcing messages to other cars, possibly inspiring road rage in travellers everywhere. I would have only one message, on a loop, that I could easily engage. "Turn your danged blinker off if you don't intend to make a goldarned lane change!!!!!"

  • I went to the Freud museum in Vienna, and he really thought cocaine was a great drug. He experimented with using it on heart patients.

  • Ephedra, Cocaine, Meth, it's all good. Marketing genius, if you ask me - but irresponsible marketing genius. Oh, wait - it's my job as a mom to teach my kids about consumerism, marketing, and common sense.

Personally, i just plain warned my kids about the up/down cycle and expense of the energy drinks. So far, it's worked.

As for the Weed, maybe as a bedtime drink, but not for every day.

  • Cocaine should be obliterated from this planet.  It's destructive to your brain and to your life.  People that snort it burn holes in their nose.  People that put it on their gums lose their teeth.  It kills brain cells and is way more addictive than smoking.  In my personal opinion.  Hmm... didn't they get rid of Candy Cigarettes because they didnt' want kids to pretend they're smoking?  I thought society was finally on a healthy trend.

And no, I wouldn't drink the drink.  It's a different buzz when you ingest weed as opposed to smoking it (as in, it's a different "high" between baking it in brownies, blending it fresh in whipped jello, or just smoking it straight... eh... I may be saying too much! ::covers mouth::)

  • I would defintely try a drink called cocaine, or meth or your other suggestions. I read in the nypost yesterday that bars in the city are serving energy drinks with shots of like jack daniels, and energy martinis etc. the best drink I ever had was in Mexico once from a little shacky roadside stand called mescal de la sierra as the indians brought it down from the mts. once in a while when they hadn't had it all themselves. (nothing like store bught mescal.) It was wonderful - I was the only one of my friends that tried it. I had to go and be alone when it took effect - there was no cold, no heat, no pain, no hunger, no thirst, no loneliness. I needed nothing and no one for a brief perfect time. Once in a lifetime. I thought thank god poor people somewhere have something to ease their misery.

by the way, re your comment on, i think it was at Mike 2cents(?). Whaddya mean some fool said bloggers have no life? Of course we do. Blogging IS my life. anything wrong with that?!? come to think of it, something like mescal de la sierrra.......

  • I could sure use your Weed energy drink right about now- so if it would give me a boost of energy I'd definetly buy it.

    Thanks for you comment.

  • Or even if it'd just mellow me out for that matter..

  • Doesn't sound too tasty to me....

  • It did posses some vowels..... just not the one... the first one.....

I would no drink something tht ws  drug, only in liquid.... i'm just not into tht.... lthough I've lwys thought if I were going to do something illegl, I would choose "Extsy..." just becuse... it sounds like its good.... my luck, i'd be the "exmple" they used s how only one time cn kill you.

  • This week I'd try anything!

  • I'm old school -- I'd buy a drink called Qualude.

  • Coca Cola imports 220 tonnes of coca leaves a year to make coca cola, but they are processed without the alkaloids. Maybe you could make a marijuana drink without the alkaloids too but hopefully, with the THC (in which case I would buy it, by the case )

  • can I drink them both together?

after I give birth obviously.  I'd have them in my bag when I went in to deliver.

  • I don't know if I would drink it, but I say, if it's a legal substance and it sells because people want it - go for it.

Anyone remember how the Coca Cola company made its millions?

  • i think you have something with your drink...lol...the cocaine thing...ehhhh all hype and nothing to it:)

  • Don't get POd.. it's not a mass message right? lol... Please read my post today.

  • I totally agree that we need a relaxing drink or something for PMS that has real marijuna in it but maybe it would need a shorter name such as Weed or pot or MJ. I know that there is already beer out there but MJ would not give those hangovers.

  • Some days.......idk.......maybe I could use a mellow drink like that. But then my hubby would wonder why we are having choc. chip cookies for dinner?!

Your insight is brilliant though.....I love the way you connect your current post to a previos one. Makes me feel like ...."I get it!" Those moments are so rare for me!

Who is the guy at the top of the page with your double image (he's in the middle)?

  • It'd have to be pretty decent tasting.  you should put it in the schools.  i'll be the teachers would appreciate some mellowed out kids.

  • LOL, I think you should do it.  You should have no problem scoring some weed among the boys.  Get your blender out and give it a try.

I like the new look here!

  • No I wouldn't buy an alternative to weed not a drink, a pill, an incense, a  cannabis flavored wine cooler,  a stuffed ravioli...  nothing.  Just give me  the real deal.  As for the cocaine... well... I don't  use narcotics any more alternative or not.

  • My oldest had a can of that Cocaine the other day and asked if I wanted to ttry it.  I said no.  I was taught..just say no.  Actually, I have tasted a couple of energy drinks such as Red Bull and I don't like the taste.

Marijuana drink...hmmm....I might try it! LOL.  I actually hate the feeling of weed...I love the smell, but hate the feeling.

  • Sounds interesting!! Good thing Cocaine was taken off of the shelves...

  • Somehow I just can't seem to imagine it in drink form......

  • Send me a case...LOL

  • At this point, between not feeling well and being bored, I would try anything.  I'm worse now than when I was in high school.  Always looking for a thrill.  Right now, just for kicks, I drink a few extra cups of coffee.......I know, I've become a rebel with menapause instead of with a cause.  lmaooooooooo

    have a great week

  • Interesting opinions here. I'm actually shocked that you wrote on something so potentially controversial ( j/k )

  • I am with you on the Mary Jane drink! heheh love the look of your site :)

  • Weed, the drink...I would try it.  Only if I don't need to douse myself with pitcouli(spelling??) afterwards.

  • Weed doesn't sound tasty to me, either, but it would be fun to be hippies now, since we were too young back then!

Where have you been?  Not on my sub list, that is for sure.  That happens a lot!  Is that you and exspunge in the pic?  What happened to his site?

  • Thanks for adding your views to my discussion on "Abuse vs. Discipline." I am amazed at the response! I hope you'll come by again, and share your views on other current events & social and moral issues.

  • Yep... I'd have to go with the "laid back" Weed drink for sure... no anxiety for me!!!

  • My contribution to your "weed drink" marketing efforts: include an additive that would create an incredible urge to eat some snack cakes, potato chips, vienna sausages, etc. We could call it "The munchies" and fully expect the customer to purchase lots of food along with your new drink. More money to be made. Just a thought...I know...it's dumb.

  • I would never drink anything like that. For all I know cocaine very well could be put in it. I find it funny that they thought cocaine was legal now. lol

  • LOL, hell yes, let me know if you ever run across that drink called Weed!  That is great!

  • I totally understood it, and I don't see why you're upset about something people like.
