  • Okay I feel the need to explain why Borat was so appealing to me, ( see post below)  because some of you are going to see it and think I am scatological , which I am not.
Most of the time that type of humor involving bodily functions etc... turns me off.  I am aslo offended by certain rasists jokes.

However I do enjoy a good spoof or satire.
Borat the character was funny, but the really funny parts to me were the non actors reactions.  To me this was an intelligent version of candid camera or the Jamie Kennedy experiments.  The looks on the faces, the way some of them tried to be polite was priceless.

I also thought it was genius the way he showed all the isums in this country, racism, sexism anti semitism etc..  It was a fascinating look into the human psyche.

I loved the movie airplane when it came out, I used to enjoy National Lampoon.  I love SNL when they do spoofs.  And I loved the little things in there like the name of his son Huey Louis.

Cohen played the straight man so well.  He never cracked a smile.  And his timing was impeccable.  The Jew jokes were horrible, but so funny.

It was a good way to laugh at ourselves as Americans.  I don't know if the guy deserves to be sued.  That will be handled in court.  All I know is I thought the movie was smart, really smart.  And he really knows people to even attempt this project.  And that is the key to any comedian if you ask me.

So, if you see this movie on my advice, you need to look past the surface jokes and the gross parts and see the subtle humor in this movie.  The fact that these people were not acting ( except maybe Pamala Anderson,) makes the whole movie .

I found his My Space and I was laughing my ass off.  To me it even spoofs that.  I don't know if it's funny if you have not seen the movie though.

As far as that town or country
    Kazakhstan
, anyone with common sense or a news paper knows the town is nothing like that.  They got a lot of publicity now, as did the bed and breakfast etc...  I would be thrilled if I were them.

So go see it, and if you don't agree, I really think your taking life too seriously.

But it's only my opinion, so don't come back horrified and offended. Sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity of people, the stupidity of people and move on.

Sometimes being politically correct and paranoid is just a drag.

  • I agree.  It's Ok to laugh at stuff every once in a while.  It's funny.  If you can at others, you can laugh at yourself. :heartbeat:

  • It is FREEEEEEZING in Israel.

(maybe not so much in Tel Aviv!)

  • I like spoofs too -- thought Airplane was hysterical when it came out. I've never been accused of being politically correct... so I think I'll be ok!

  • The lawsuit was a publicity stunt.

  • I enjoyed it too.  I wrote a review of my own on my site a few weeks ago.  You really have to be able to "get it" in order to find the movie funny.  I was sitting by myself in the row at the theater, but I still felt uncomfortable at times.  Wicked stuff.

  • "Kazakhstan is the GREEEEEEATEST country in the world!!!!  All other countries are run by little girls."

    :giggle:

  • Is it jump on comedienes and comedians week? You are enjoying yourself with a movie and some chinese are puzzling over Rosie O'donnell's dig on Danny Devito. If a drunk doesn't drive then make fun of their antics. Used to be people would say they don't care about the price of tea in China. Now Rosie makes fun of the language of Chinese? In some ways I am offended since as a child I heard taunts similar, making fun of the chinese and chinese language. If she respected the chinese language she might have said some real phrases, just like when folks speak Irish, they try to get some phrases right.

The hypocracy of her expecting less homosexual digs that are unintended, may give the Chinese a license to expect her to stop the imitation chinese language.

Then again ethnic humor is sometimes just done better by someone who is of that ethnic group...

  • ok...you've sold me! I loved Arrested Development for just this reason.

  • :sunny:i am glad i stopped by!  I will go see that movie - you convinced me and I thank you.  I need a good laugh:spinning:
Have a great day.  I am not going to church today:rolleyes:cause my daughter has a migraine and it is the worst yet.  She wants me to stay home so here I am.

  • Darn you may talk me into seeing the movie but i still think i will wait until it comes out on DVD. Oh, you into scatology? Doubtful, and this is not a criticism (speaking of isms and I don't care how you spell it you got your point across), but you made a typo in the word. A pure devotee of scatology would be careful to spell it correctly. I know this because of my many years of study in the field of human behavior. Now you may have a slight tendency in that direction but a pure scatological uses only brown ink in Xanga posts. Notice any of them lately?

  • I will have to wait til it comes out on DVD.  So many to watch.  LC sees these movies then complains about them, then I never get to see them!   I have not seen any Tarentino movie....(Pulp Fiction for example)...same reason....then when we get to watch somethingat home on DVD at home its something else....

  • OH - did I tell you that the DQ got a little pink plastic Dreidel at a Christmas party?  She loves it:laugh:

  • I know I would love it!  What ever happened to Jamie Kennedy,  I used to love watching him!

  • I definitely want to see it .. but I lwill buy the DVD and watch it in the privacy of my own comfy couch!!  Maybe some people need to get the stick removed from their ass so they can have a good laugh at inane humor.  I always say that if I wasn't laughing, I'd be crying.  Let's face it .. laughing is better than crying!!!  I think it would have been fun to go watch the movie with YOU!!  We definitely would have been laughing our asses off together .. not getting up and walking out because we were offended by a freakin' movie .. geesh!!

Have a wonderful day, Laura!! Alicia

  • How 'bout you, me and Shirley watching it together!!  How much freakin' fun would that be???

  • "Family - I single - my wife is dead (I did not kill her)." Who wouldn't laugh at that?!

  • Sometimes being politically correct and paranoid is just a drag,

    YES YES YES!  :) t

  • :sunny: You have me wanting to see thsi movie now :sunny:

    Happy Sunday..

  • I just can't bring myself to see that movie, despite your encouraging review.

  • Although Pamela Anderson said she was "in" on it, I don't really believe her--her acting was too good for her to actually be acting, in my opinion!

  • I thought about going to see it, but then it almost sounded a little too "wild" for my taste. I do like spoofs as you do-sometimes you just have to laugh at it all and not take things so seriously!

  • Political correctness and paranoia do indeed suck. We're agreed there. But I'm with TwoBerry. Not sure I could relax and enjoy the film, although the premise is absolutely brilliant. :)

  • You make me want to see it, although I've read bad reviews. I love spoofs too. Happy Hanukkah to you. Love ya.

  • I totally agree with you that PC has gone too far at times!!!  Hope your Hanukkah is joyous!  I loved your piece in the HeartBeat Magazine too!  It was really good!

    Have a great week!!!

  • I always liked that movie airplane.

  • I think I want to see it now, just to groan at the jokes! Some people have to seriously get a grip...not all is meant to slander...he's a character for crying out loud! Happy Hannukah, Laura!

  • Come to think of it, maybe it was all a big marketing plot for Kazakhstan? lol I love Borat humor.

  • I thought there were parts of it that were funny.  I wasn't offended at all but several people in the theater walked out during the movie.  I don't know why they even went to see it when they knew what it was about.  I thought the Drivers Ed teacher was a gem.
