I have not been on here too much the last couple days, work, Idol watching, and life have gotten in my way. And now I'm exhausted. But I am compelled to write. Why ? I don't know.
I need to remind myself that next time I decide go to the high school, I should not go when the " bell " is about to ring. Actually you can't even call it a bell, it sounds more like a toned down version of a fire alarm. In my day we had real school bells. At least I think we did. I'm pretty sure if we had this buzzer noise I would remember, or the sound would evoke some kind of feeling, an urge to move, and it didn't.
Something that did come back to me was maneuvering in the hall, with a sea of kids. First, I'm short, as I was back in high school. Trying to make your way through teens who are at least 1/2 a foot taller is no easy task. Also, hall maneuvering is not like driving with lanes. People are on the wrong side of the hall, going in the wrong direction and you can be cut off at any time. Of course it's much worse when you are trying to get in the school and the giant teens are trying to get out, as fast as possible it seems. It's a nightmare really. And who ever designed lockers to be in the halls, didn't envision a population explosion.
It's not like on TV. where there is ten people in the hall and everyone is hanging out by the lockers, with plenty of room to walk on by if you so choose. I feel for the kid who has to try and get to their locker during passing periods or at the end of school. I'm surprised they can even open them. And for the short kids, wow, it's amazing you have not been crushed.
My eyes are slowly closing now. I am sure I will find errors in this post in the morning, that I will have to correct. But for now

Please don't be mad if I have not been around your site, You know I always catch up. Show me some love anyway.
Thanks
LauraPS. On Oprah tomorrow, the oldest boy who was kidnapped by that freak ( I think his name was Shaun) with his parents.
Okay I really am sleeping now.
No wait, I am going to write a post about why I love my header so much VERY soon.

That is such a freaky story about the kidnapping. Speaking of freaks, one good thing about being short is that probably you would be invisible to some psychopathic sniper or something when in a crowd. There are advantages.
I'm going to watch Oprah tomorrow...thanks for the heads-up.
Hopefully I can catch highlights on youtube or something. I'd watch Oprah for that.
are those brussel sprouts? i'm happy to say i don't remember what the school bell sounded like & i don't care... some things are best forgotten ... like past marriages... have a good thursday...
I avoid going to my sons school at all costs. I went through that a couple times and it's NOT fun at all. Kids are just rude, bumping into you like you're in their way and not saying sorry or excuse me. So I know what you're talking about.
Ok I broke down and watched the last hour of idol. OMG, I felt bad if I laughed because some of those people are obviously challenged. Now I want to watch it again. Is it on every night now?
Get some rest Laura.
HUGS!! Michelle
I'm still curious as to why a boy that age, both when he was kidnapped and when he was recovered, did not at any time try to escape. If they were only an hour from where his home was, he would have known where he was. Even my 9 year old daughter would know that. It seems very odd to me. Pardon me if I haven't been updated on the news, I tend to avoid it, but I did read that story. By the sounds of it, the man was not always with the boy and quite obviously the boy had the freedom to play basketball or football or whatever it was with a friend, also ride his BIKE, so why the F did he not go home?
course we love you through thick and thin
Get in that bed right now and go to sleep! ::spoken in a very "mom-like" voice::
Kathi
:dancingcow:Get some rest .. you can't do it all, ya know?
I try to get around to whoever I can but, can't make it to everyone all the time ...
Us more "seasoned" bloggers understand! ha!
Hope things get better ... I still cannot believe you not divorced yet ... I know you guys are supposed to be together ... ha! Just kiddin!
Hugs!!!:hammer:
TV high schools are always indoors too, and the lockers are huge enough to throw a skinny nerd into.
Tsk Tsk Tsk - Throwing out your veggies??????
Have a great Thursday!
:frog:Cheryl:dancingcow:
What's going on with Oprah??:question::hmmmmm:
I'm old, we had school bells in my day...
~Happy Thursday!
I miss those real school bells.
Elementary schools are fun to pass by on a razor scooter. You'll hear all sorts of coments, especially since adults aren't suppose to ride them. I noticed that the little girls will cling to each other and little boys will get into mischief (yesterday I saw them getting in a crowd spiting in the drain together....)
If the High Schoolers are rude I wonder what would happen if I passed by on a scooter? Probably louder catcalls. Anyway High schools are probably more enclosed and the school yard is not usually exposed to the public passing by not like elementary schools.
I remember the mad rush when high school lets out. Our High School was next door to a library and there was a rush for seats following the end of school for those who liked to study....
I also am getting sleepy, I sleep more when it is cold....
OMG are they seriously putting that boy on Oprah? Like he hasn't been through enough? He has to be the freak boy on national tv who didn't run away because god knows what that man did to him or threatened him with? This voyeuristic culture is revolting.
My daughter's high school has all ourdoor corridors, built Ramada style -- with the doors opening onto courtyards and ourdoor walkways....it's actually really nice. Don't get me wrong, you still don't want to be basically anywhere on campus when the buzzer (we had bells too) go off!
Forgot all about school bells.:hammer:
Gettin' old.
:birdie: I hope you get some rest. I am ok if you rest and dont comment.
I am with miguel I would watch a show of Oprah with you in it. :dancingcow:
Just stay in bed you have been a good blogger.
Nothing is like they show it on TV.
I know what you mean about the hallways !! a few years ago I was subbing, and I'm short too (5'2") and I swear, I thought they would trample me! AND I don't remember kids being that tall back then!
My husband is really good at cutting through a crowd so if I'm with him I just grab onto his belt and off we go. Otherwise I am screwed because I can't seem to negotiate by myself. I end up standing and letting people move around me or the people behind me push me forward.
the high school and junior high hallways here are crazy! but i remember having to navigate those halls too....i was a short one too
Sorry about your stress. :hammer:
I love your veggie pic! I literally FORCE myself to eat them. When I went over to a friends house for dinner and she served something GREEN I actually had to ask "What is this?" I never heard of it, never saw it before, and couldn't believe God would have the audacity to make something so wierd and it would be GOOD for me? Hmmm....pass the ketchup? :not-talking:
hall advice: just stand in one place for a minute and they'll all disappear! they'll even go around you! :wink-wink:
Hope things are good...

Why on earth would you want to go on Oprah if your child had been kidnapped? I guess money, but talk about the opposite of getting back to normal.
hope you have gotten the much need rest you deserve. :sleepy: my son is in first grade and when i am at his school the fifth and sixth graders are taller than i am (i am only 5'1"). not looking forward to highschool for that reason lol. my son is 7 and is already 4'4.5" tall, i have told him to stop growing or else.
I already have Oprah tivoed for today. It will be an interesting show. Being taller it was easy to navigate through the halls
LOL about *class bell* time. I can imagine you being smashed up against the lockers or knocked into a corner. When that bell rings it's like something demonic comes over the kids....they go into get-out-of-my-way-or-I'll-kill-you-mode all to get to a class they don't even want to go to. Of course detention or worse is a good motivator. But I agree, the hall during this time is not the place to be. When I worked in a middle school for a few years they assigned me outdoor lunch duty & one of my jobs was to *guard* the ONLY door in once the bell rang. Those *little* 13-15 year olds were taller than me (& I'm 5'8") & I used to have to stand there with both arms stretched out holding them back before the bell rang. My adrenalin would start pumping because the second that bell rang I had to move FAST or be crushed...I think they welcomed the opportunity to try & demolish me because in the mad rush I'd never know who it was that killed me......I'm so glad those days are over:!celebrate:
I like the veggie pic.
Got your message, hang in there, and don't worry about return comments, with me anyhow. I will continue to read your site, and when your feeling up to it you can come read mine as well. Hope things get less stressed for you real soon!
We all need breaks sometimes!
The only reason I go over near the school at let out time is to pick up my daughter, I make her wait a good 20 minutes though for traffic to clear out...lol.
You are too funny. It takes me back to those hight school days but I think we had beeps instead of rings or bells.
Honestly. Why Oprah of all places? Why anywhere?
I remember that maneuvering through a crowded school hallway was an important skill. It may have been easier for me, because I was taller than many.
Leavin some
and i hope you're
getting some rest.
I watched Oprah today.
Guess what... I know how you feel, at least about the not being able to breath thing. Take your time... take care of you, if you are not careful you will end up looking like Paula on Tuesday's nights show... :hammer: :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
That would be bad.
Hugs, Tricia :celebrate: :celebrate: :celebrate: :celebrate: :celebrate: :celebrate:
i wouldnt go to a high school if i had to now...hahaha!! i looked to see what was on oprah today and it said something totally different so i didnt record it and then later on the news they showed some blipits from that interview and i realized what was on and was so mad!!!
It's pretty scary at the schools now a days..too many kids there and they are rude too! I made the mistake of trying to get through the halls when the bell rang once and I didn't do it again LOL. My kids tell me you either have to be like them or stand still and hope youdon't get knocked over LOL...I think I will just not go at that time. Hope you got some rest!
Funny I always laugh when I see reruns of shows like Dawson's Creek where everyone is ambling towards class and the halls are bright and sunny and spacious. Our high school had lockers on both sides of the hallways and so many students that it always seemed like a cattle drive going to and from classes. Ugh. I do not miss that about school. Ten years out and I still have horrid memories of being smashed and manhandled.
:big-smile: I hope you got some sleep! I have a hard time in the school hallways and I always feel like I want to do this to people :hammer: because some are just so stupid or they're just rude and I get all :steamed: But :sigh: not much I can do. Hope you have a great weekend :dancingcow:
I dunno about that kid. It's wierd and very intriguing and I'm strangely fascinated by the whole thing.
Have a good weekend
