  • Aventures At The Hair Salon

Edit at the bottom of post:

My mother offered me a hair cut/color, and a new outfit, because Matt's graduating Sunday.  She will be in town for the graduation.   I don't think she wanted to be seen with me in my former state.

So of course I took her up on it.

I can't remember the last time I got my hair cut and colored.  I wait a really long time because one, I don't care, and two, the longer you wait, the better it looks when you finally do it.

So I go in with my " roots" ( can you still call them roots if it's half your head?) are black and gray, and the bottom part is a multitude of colors, none of which are pretty.  The texture is straw.

The stylist, Natalie, a cute,  spunky, young,  girl, asks what we are doing today.  I tell her I want a cut and color.

She asks what color, and did I want highlights or all over?  I tell her I really hadn't thought about it.

Truthfully, I was hoping she would just decide for me.  A makeover.  What I wanted was to leave the salon looking as young, as cute and as skinny as she was.

I wanted my before and after picture to be posted on the wall and Natalie would explain to all the astounded people who saw it "  As you can see I put a highlight here, thereby giving the allusion of a much skinnier and younger face."

Natalie was much too nervous to take over.  She probably had a lot of criers in the past.  She brought me a book and I picked out a couple colors resembling my hair color at sixteen and told her to throw a few highlights in.

Then we discussed the cut.  I told her to cut off the dead parts, unless that would make me bald, in which case a couple inches were fine.  I assured her I wasn't a crier.

Then Natalie got really nosey, asking me questions like, how often I wash my hair, and where did I get it colored last time?

She caught me off guard, and I had to tell her the last time I got my hair colored, it was at the salon downstairs ( I was at the mall) .

I felt guilty about it, like I was cheating.  I have only been to each salon once before, and I had just met Natalie today, so I had no reason to feel bad.

I think she thought I over washed my hair, because she told me a least ten times not to wash it for twenty four hours.

I was just pissed she was talking to me at all.  I brought a book, and I opened  it.  I think that's a pretty big hint that you don't want to talk.

Natalie had really nice hair, which made me kind of nervous.  Typically, in the past, the hair stylists with the weirdest hair, do the best job.  I haven't figured out this phenomenon  yet,  but it's true.

In the end, I like my hair.  I don't look any skinnier or younger, even though Natalie practically screamed "  You look like a different person!"

I thought that was a little conceited, but I gave her a big tip anyway.

Hey, it was moms treat, I can afford to be generous.

Edit:  What is with you people and pictures?  I was pretty descriptive!    Maybe on Sunday at the graduation.
For now, the new hair is cuter than the old, which isn't saying much.

  • Want a tip???   If you use loving care, you can do it yourself, and it all fades at the same time......no roots of a different color.    O.K    O.K.   Now more than my hair-dresser knows for sure.   DARN!!!

  • i was hoping for a before and after shot. . .but reguardless i found your post very fun and entertaining :]
enjoy your new cut and color.

  • Are we getting pictures of the new you? :tigger34:

  • I wanna see pics!............LOL,  I thought I was the only one with the Hairdresser fantasy,  that I will walk out looking younger and skinnier,  and I always pray that with my think hair,  someone will give me a miraculous cut that will make it look thick and luxurious!??...........You are right though,  the wierder ones are better,  at first they are scary,  because I was afraid..........and the gay guys,  they tend to do a better job too...........I had a male cut my hair awhile back...........I was disappointed,  then I found out he was straight........a-ha!   :question29::blog17::blog17::waddle16:

  • um,  I meant thin hair,  not think hair!  :confused35::bye2:

  • Bet the new do makes a whole new you.  Too bad you got one of those speak to everyone older than themselves in the third person as if they are mostly deaf and half witted.  Don't you just want to strangle them.  Am glad you liked the final results though.

  • Yea, so where's the picture??

  • Y are we not seeing pics....Y I ASK

  • YEAH .. I want to see a picture!!  I bet you look fabulous!!!  I love that you were extra generous with Mom's money!!
I work at a vo-tech school and when I see the cosmetology students walking in the halls with their bizzare hairstyles, I think .. there's NO way I'd let them touch my hair.  But, you make a good point .. maybe the more bizzare their hair, the better job they do on our hair.  Maybe I should venture down to cosmetology and get an $8 haircut!!  But then again, I'd be a guinea pig .. hmmm .. maybe that's not a good idea!!!
    I hope your hump day is humpalicious!!! :tigger34: :tigger34: :tigger34: :tigger34: :tigger34: :tigger34:

RYC: Oh you bet I could afford to lose 40 pounds! and still more....not even close to stick like porportions lol

  • A happy ending to a hair salon story.  Amazing :tigger34:

  • Wow you really got some awesome treats for Mother's day

  • That no wash rule is totally to let the color set first. So... WHERE are the photos of your great new hair do? We ARE that shallow here in Xanga land. There's nothing more fun than a photo blog now and again. :woohoo19: I bet it's fabulous!

  • Pictures, please!!!  :sillygrin28:

  • I think a lot of stylists have weird hair because they practice on themselves. I haven't been in years!

  • lol...your post is so hilarous.....:sillygrin28:

  • LOL!! I want pictures too!

  • I've been thinking about getting mine layered this week.  I don't know why, since I always end up wishing the layers would grow out & be one length again, but I doubt that knowledge will stop me from trying it one more time.  :sillygrin28:

  • The person who does weird things with their own hair doesn't need to experiment on you because they experiment on themselves.  They are constantly trying things out on their own hair.  The person with a really nice haircut needs to practice on you and therefore will very often make mistakes.

  • LOL  You edited before I got here with my request.  I've noticed too how often stylists have really frumpy or weird hair.

  • Awww... I was kinda hoping for pics too.

  • Man, you entries are awesome! We wanna see a pic =)

  • Wow.  How brave of you.  My hero.  If it had been me before a really important event, my hair would be Barney purple and frizzed like Cindy (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) Lauper.

  • I bet your vacation was a little annoying...but still good, right??? You could always go into the room and shut the door,.... eat your food and watch whatever you want...... close the curtains and sleep at noon.... sounded pretty cool to me.I have apicture in my head of your hair... but a real pic would be good.

  • I hate when the person cutting my hair talks too much.  I usually just want to close my eyes and doze off.
You should have said to her, "Wash it?  I'm supposed to wash it?"

  • lol yea well it's great you had a good day at the hair place... mine takes a lot of money to get it cut cause it's really long
    morgan :question29:

  • i hate it when the hairdresser talks to me. i go to a different hair salon each time as i really don't want my hairdresser to know too much about me. i think i'm weird.
looking forward to your pics :D

  • nice description of how your day went--and thanks to mom.  You made me smile--thank you :)
