• Why I work at a crazy place and today I'm 47

  Monday I learned a client threw a giant rock at some baby ducks who have been visiting work with their mom, and he ended up killing two of the babies.  As the teacher was crying he said " it ain't like they're people."  Rumor has it he wasn't even punished.  At least not by anyone but the teacher.

  Tuesday there was a mad dash to remove the metro section of the newspaper because we didn't want our clients to read about our very own Mary Kay Letourneau.  For privacy purposes, I'll just call her Mary Kay.  Mary Kay is not as attractive as the other Mary Kay or the Mary Kays who have been in the news.  Our Mary Kay was not a teacher either, she was a drug and Alcohol counselor until she got fired.  She is 32, the boy is 16.  She's a white woman and he's a black boy, a ward of the state . 

  I was actually surprised.  Mary Kay played favorites with the boys, and she definitely tried to talk black, which was very irritating since she was a white Jewish lady.  But I didn't think she would sleep with any of them  ( her favorites I mean).

  One time she said to me, about one of her white clients, that he " reads too much".  Yeah, okay Mary Kay.  You can imagine how that went over with me.  But she always favored the black boys.  At least that's what we all thought.   I still never would have pegged her for a child molester.  And I'm sorry, but that's what she is.

  Anyway, this whole thing lead miss M and I to talk about and google some of our other former clients and coworkers.

  If you've been reading this for awhile, you may be wondering what happened to Igor the Russian guy I wrote about.  He is currently serving time for arson, he set a stolen car on fire.  Igor had his own car, so I'm not sure why he did that.  He didn't get along with Mary Kay so it's a good thing they will not be in the same prison.

  I learned from google that Igor was also a Jew, who is fighting deportation back to Russia because he fears being discriminated against. 

  Leave it to me to find the job with the only two non- white colar crime Jewish criminals. 

  Miss M said "  Don't they know Jews don't commit crimes?"  I said, sure they do, look at Son of Sam?"  But he was the  only one we could think of. 

  Miss M's not Jewish, I am.  Not that this is about religion, it's just that's the way the conversation went.

  We have had a couple other Mary Kays at work, but they were never arrested as far as I know.  Just fired.  This Mary Kay was arrested because she took the kid home with her.  Not too smart Mary Kay.  Since he was a ward of the state I guess she thought no one would care. 

  She is charged with aggravated sexual assault, obstructing justice ( she hid the kid in a closet), and harboring a runaway.

  I don't feel bad for her, she could be a bitch.  But the main reason I don't feel bad is because the Department of Family Service wards are our most vulnerable kids.   And taking advantage of that is truly rape, and that makes me sick.

  So I got distracted this week with my Birthday posts.  But today is the day.  I am officially 47 years old.  And I officially work in a loony bin.  But it does make work exciting. 

  Off to Indiana to take Matt to Freshman orientation.  Happy Birthday to me.
