Don't let the food touch
So yesterday was another party. It's amazing I'm not fat, oh wait, I am. Anyway, I was sitting next to a friend of mine and she said " I'm trying to keep the Italian beef juice off the fluff. The fluff as she calls it, is the pink fluffy stuff that's kind of like jello but fluffier.
So of course we talked about people who have one type of food touching another type of food. I thought this was just an issue for little kids or OCD people, but apparently "normal" adults have it too. My friend said she likes separator plates. There weren't any separator plates at the party, so she had to be careful. She could have used many plates, but she probably thought that would be rude.
I don't mind my food touching, but I don't like certain textures, like cooked peas and carrots, too mushy.
My friend doesn't even like to mix corn and mashed potatoes which I think is a good mixture.
I had to tell her that her fruit salad was totally touching the fluff, but I guess that mixture is okay.
Other mixtures that people liked ( except my friend who was grossed out) were dipping ones fries in a chocolate shake and potato chips on hamburgers.
I like to dip the edges of a tuna salad sandwich in ketchup, I learned that one from a friend in college.
I don't think that's popular though.
So you see where this blog is going, what are your food mixing issues? What foods do you like to mix?
The weirdest mixture will get a prize. Well not really, but you can tell me anyway.

I like pasta mixed with veggies and chicken. I also like potato chips on my sandwich sometimes.
Hmmm... sometimes I think it's geographical, like, I like salt, pepper and vinegar on my chips (fries) and I like gravy with it too. In Quebec they have a dish called poutine which is melted cheese on top of fries and gravy, yum. (they add other weird stuff sometimes like chicken or peas or coleslaw but I'm not into those) We dip grilled cheese sandwiches (or fried egg sandwiches) into ketchp. Fries and mayo occasionally, preferably Hellmans (McChicken sauce from Mickey Dee's is also good with fries.) I like to make grilled sandwiches with hard cheddar cheese, tomatoes, mayo and hot banana peppers. On pizza, once in awhile I crave a Hawaiian pizza with mushrooms and feta cheese melted on top of the mozza.
Okay, that's enough. I'm hungry now. lol... (my ex husband used to have Kentucky Fried Chicken gravy on his eggs! blech!)
Oh, the weirdest? I can't think of one...because sometimes I can't stand when my food is touching. My husband thinks it's weird that in some cases, I'll purposely mix my food and in other cases, I try to keep them apart.
haha. :snoopy23:
I have no phobias about what food touches what, on my plate. However, I would not dip a tuna sandwich in ketchup! Ewwww! Potato chips on burgers, and fries dipped in chocolate shakes are definitely gross, too! Mmmm, for corn mixed with REAL mashed potatoes (on my plate, not in the serving bowl, lol)! One of the best combo, ever! Add a little cranberry (the jellied kind) and we are in business!
:woohoo19:
Kathi
Macoroni cheese and tuna.
Lately the wierdest food I've been eating is peanut butter rolled up in a slice of american cheese. When it comes to this food touching that food on my own plate I don't have a jewish bone in my body but I don't want anyone else's food touching my food! I'd say Yuk but that wouldn't sound right coming from a guy who calls himself Blackheartedforce.
I actually like a tuna salad sandwich with ketchup.
Yumm.
:cupcake14: -Amelia- [:
I wouldn't eat it, but I think chicken gravy on chocolate ice cream would be a very strange combination. ryc: You're welcome!
Nachos or cheese curls on pizza is awesome! And my brother makes "Messy Joes" which are dinner rolls filled with french fries and mashes potatoes.
Ketchup on Scrambled eggs is good.
But i think most people know that
or they should...
I have a grocery list! Yummy: Grilled cheese dipped in BBQ sauce, peanut butter & applesauce on rye bread, maple syrup mixed with peanut butter on bread, dipping steak into ranch dressing, cottage cheese mixed with chopped tomatoes and green onions. How about those? LOL
Erm...I like peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. I dip cheese pizza in ranch dressing. Cottage cheese and pears is good. I guess people think toasted bread with mayo and tomatoes is gross. Oh and I dip my french fries in a mixture of ketchup and mayo.
ice cream and french fries~!
i have a tendency to mix all the food on my plate into a big gloppy mess ... & then i eat it very slowly... i like a hot dog (preferably grilled) on a toasted bun with lots of mayo, melted cheddar cheese, & sliced cucumbers... you can substitute pickles for cukes...
& i think fries dipped in a chocolate shake & chips on hamburger (or any other sandwich) tastes good...
Thank God you didn't promise a prize. I won a blog contest a year ago. I was supose to win some real hand knitted stuff from her. Then her house burnt down. I got the feeling I was supose to send money or something to show my humanity. Na!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am the kind of guy that could put my whole meal in a blender and strain it between my teeth. Drink included. I am under no illusions it all hits the same place.
If I win. No hand knitted doilies. Donate my gifts to a yard sale or something.
I'm not at all fussy about my foods touching.....It will all "touch" eventually anyway
I personally like peanut butter and watermelon!! I also like crunched up potato chips on ice cream!
i like chips on my sandwiches
:browndog33:
:sunflowers26: have a happy day!!!! :hug27:
I know this sounds weird, but my step-dad turned me on to this......ice cream with sliced strawberries, drizzled with a little bit of balsamic vinegar! He had it at a fancy restaurant once. Sounds gross, but it is really good!
I'm a weird food eater by nature. Sometimes people are facinated by my concoctions. The other day I was eating a soft pretzal with mustard (totally normal) and also has some choco-chip cookies. I accidentally dropped a chunk of cookie into the mustard cup. I wanted to try it with such an intensity that I couldn't resisit, and now I go to get cookies and just buy a pretzal as an excuse to get a cup od mustard, because I'm sure the lady at the pretzal counter would think I was weird if I wanted mustard for my cookies, but I do.
I don't care if my food touches on the plate. I'm not big on intentionally mixing different food items and I don't have any real weird dipping habits. But maybe I'm just weird for not caring if stuff touches, or the juice from one thing soaks another on my plate, etc.
fried potatoes and pork-n-beans is the bomb!:tigger34:
My grandpa liked everything to mix. Like add some gravy to everything, and have a stack of white bread on a plate and use that as "pusher." Surprisingly he didn't die of heart disease.
I like pork chops & applesauce. How trite, huh? Otherwise, I mostly prefer my foods don't touch. Like I don't like it if we're having fish or something and it touches the salad. (Hence, the invention of the salad plate, I guess). But we don't live all fancy like that.
I'm from the South. We eat everything. I particularly like lemon juice on my chicken fried steak. Other than that, I don't care if my gravy gets on everything, although I do hate for my sweet things to touch my unsweetened things. I see no reason to bastardize something sweet.
Applesauce and cottage cheese! I never thought that was a weird mixture until I got to college and grossed out my roommates. Oh, and I also put potato chips on sandwiches.
I love eating french fries with mayo...that was the only way I knew how as a kid...since my parents came from Europe. From my ex mil I learned to spread mayo on the inside pieces of bread when making grilled cheese...makes them so much creamier. She wasn't from Europe...just liked to try new things.
oh, I am one of those people..I can't stand my food touching..but it does get kinda complicated when I go to an all you can eat buffet....LOL..you woud not believe how many plates I use..LOL...but I do like dipping chicken nuggets in mustard...LOL...and I like sweet relish on top of the chili I slather my fried burritos in.....
I like potato chips on peanut butter and honey sandwiches. MM! And I also hate my food touching. Nothing should be touching on the plate unless it was made together. No, mashed potatos and corn can not be mixed together. BLECH.
Oh yes (sorry for the double comment) also, I can not use the same plate twice if it is being used for different things. Like, I can not eat my cake on the same plate my dinner was on. So gross. I can not get seconds on the same plate I got firsts on, unless it is seconds of the same thing and it goes in the same place that it did the first time. Is that weird?
My kids and I do not like our food touching either. I could never make a casserole because my kids didn't want the foods mixed up. Now days...they too dip their Wendy's fries in their chocolate frosty!
I had an uncle that would cut his meat and then just mix everything in his plate together like his own little casserole or something. He said it was all going to the same place anyway. That was long, long ago and he passed away many years ago, but do hope he enjoyed at least one good steak in his lifetime.
My dad had a roommate that would mix a can of tuna and a can of tomatoe soup together and eat it with crackers. Ewww
Myself...I LOVE a pickle and mayonaisse sandwich. The bread has to be fresh and the pickles have to be the hamburger sliced ones.
Thought you'd find that a strange mixture, don't know anyone that's ever tried it. Just trying to make the list for the 'weirdest'!!
I like mashed potatoes + stuffing or mashed potatoes + corn. Nothing fancy here. I probably like some weird stuff, but YOU'RE supposed to be entertaining ME. (-:
Dang .. as I read this I was trying to think of my weird combinations and the first thing that popped into my head was putting potato chips in a lebanon baloney and cheese sandwich. Seems a lot of other people do that. Oh, and macaroni and cheese mixed with baked beans. Luckily, I'm not one of those whose food can't touch .. that seems like a phobia or something!!
Have a great day!! :bubblegum36:
I'll mix pretty much anything. I like to take toothpicks and put both fruit and cheese on it at the same time. I also like...
Fries Dipped in a Shake
Chips on any kind of sandwich
Catsup on almost anything (except maybe desserts or cereal)
Any type of chocolate+fruit combo
I like this hispanic dish called mole which is chicken and chocolate
Mac and Cheese with Tuna
Tuna on my pizza
Hawaiian pizza
Fruit in stirfry dishes
Chicken salad with grapes
Anything on a baked potato
Milkduds in movie theatre popcorn
Pasta salad mixed into a regular salad
corn and mashed potatos
putting spagghetti on bread and butter
My favorite is Fritos and yogurt. Cool and creamy and salty and crunchy. Yummo!
I don't know - not wanting your food to touch is pretty obsessive if you ask me. Maybe not full OCD, but a little weird.
How does a person with food touching other food (technical term??) phobia handle casseroles......ahhhhhhhh???!!! Where I went to high school, one of our school lunches was hot dog, sauer kraut & mashes potatoes. A lot of us mixed the potatoes with the kraut, I still do that. My husband mixes things on his plate to mask something he doesn't care for but will eat it anyway knowing it is something good for him....ie; spaghetti sauce poured over asparagus spears. I told him that if he is going to desecrate MY favorite vegetable like that----then DON'T eat it!!! I get more then....heehee!:sillygrin28:
I dip my fries in mayo not ketchup, uuumm good. I can not eat anything that has a bone in it or any type of soft food with hard things in it. no jello with carrots, no brownies with nuts, no ribs, no chicken wings. I have passed all my food issues down to my children, so now I'm not the only oddball at the party. oh yeah I won't eat anything that was cooked by anyone I don't know. so potlucks are generally out for us. before I eat in a restaurant I check out the bathrooms, if there's no hot water to wash my hands with I'm out. I should be as thin as a rail with all my food issues but sadly I am not.
I love potato chips dipped in chili; peanut butter and marshmallow creme sandwiches (YUM) and tuna and cream cheese on a toasted bagel. There are more, but I won't go on and on....haha
I don't have issues! I'm the normal one here....

ryc: I think the term "Christian" is used way too broadly. Basically in America it seems like if you're not Hindu, Morman, Jewish, or some other religion, then you must be Christian. Which is not true. Maybe I just attract the atheists or something but once you start saying you believe in the Bible and you follow Jesus and stuff like that people act like you're a total bozo. I have been told I need to crawl out from under my rock.
I like fruit snacks and milk. Like, starburst or fruit roll ups with a cold glass of milk. yum!
don't know if you all have a primanti brothers where you are, or if you've ever heard of it. But, it's a sandwich place that puts coleslaw and french fries ON the sandwich. Whatever kind you get, it has that on top. they think you're nuts if you get the sandwich without that stuff!!
I don't get made fun of much in real life. Mostly just online. I think sometimes it's easier to be mean to someone online than it is in real life. But I'm not gonna lie, I don't know any Jews in real life. I know a zillion Mormons. I used to go to high school with one Jewish girl but other than that I haven't met any (that I'm aware of, at least). I do know a lot of atheists though!
fries and a milkshake. it's awesome!! =)
I can't handle any food to touch on my plate. In my opinion, plates with dividers are the best invention ever! However, I do like green olives and mustard on my tuna. But other than that, nothing can touch - ever.
I like to mash doritos into spaghettios... also like peanut butter and pretzels in my icecream and those KFC bowls are to die for
I LOVE eating mustard on crackers with an ice cold glass of milk! It has to be French's mustard though. I have a friend who enjoys catsup on ice cream and hot sauce on watermelon. Ewww!
potatoe chips on sandwiches. . .that's yummy.
i don't have any weird food phobias or habits, but my uncle doesn't let his food touch and he eats all of one thing then moves on to the next.
i do like vinegar in my soup. is that weird?
I was getting grossed out for awhile thinking how everytime I ate something what a mess that was making in my stomach. Then I realized that was crazy talk. Now I am eating happily again. I don't worry if stuff touches or not because it all ends up in one big puddle in your stomach.
My daughter dips her fries into her frosty from Wendy's. As far as I go, I don't care if my food touches one another on the plate, but I'll eat each one separately, finish it, and then go on to the next food item.
Digestive biscuits (cookies to you) with sharp cheddar cheese and apricot preserves.
Fresh petit pois cooked with lettuce and onion shreds, balsamic vinegar, butter and sugar and black pepper. I must have got this from somewhere, I'm sure I couldn't have invented it. Can't remember where though. It should win your imaginary prize though. No one else has anything else quite so disgusting sounding that that tastes so good.
My mom eats tomato and peanut butter sandwiches...yuck!
my weird concoction...i love scrambled eggs and ketchup...but someone beat me to that!
