Cingular or AT&T? Make up your mind.
I kind of the like the Cingular/AT&T commercials, the ones about the fewest dropped calls. My favorite is the one where the mom thinks her daughter is getting married in Vegas.
Jennie just informed me she hates them. She wants to tell the mom that the daughter is not getting married. And she's totally upset that the one guy thinks the girl doesn't like him, when he thinks they made a big connection. She also thinks the people should be aware their call was dropped, and not assume the person is just being quiet. Although, I have gone on and on and talked to myself when my call was dropped a long time before.
I guess she has some valid points, but that's not what irritates me. What irritates me is the name change. A couple years ago I was enjoying my new cell phone which had the name AT&T. We had switched from T Mobil and we were pretty happy with AT&T. One day, not long after we switched, I find out my cell phone has been taken over by Cingular. Not a huge deal, what do I care what the name of my cell phone company is, right? Wrong.
Soon after, something happened to one of our phones. This is where the problems started. We could switch to Cingular for free but would have to buy a new Cingular phone and sim card, or we could try and find old AT&T's phone and card.
They didn't have any more AT&T's!
I was pretty pissed. Wait, you buy out a perfectly good company and then you punish us by eliminating all the old companies equipment? Your going to LET me switch for free? Like I really had a choice, since AT&T was gone, poof.
Now they have changed the name to AT&T! What is that? Sure your commercials are kind of cute, but changing your name to the company you ripped off in the first place, it's an outrage.
I'm just confused. What is the name of my cell phone? Will they change it back to Cingular next year? When people ask what service I have, do I say the old and new AT&T?
What if something happens to one of our phones? Will we need to find the old AT&T, even though we switched to Cingular?
Did they do this because Cingular kind of sounds like Cellular, which is a different company?
I think our contract is up soon, I might be able to get a cheap Iphone if I stay with AT&T the former Cingular the former AT&T, but is it worth it?I don't know, I wish T mobile had cute commercials, that could sway me to switch back.
I think they should pick a name and stick with it.

I considered switching to ATT or whoever they are, but decided to stay with Alltel... I think I am glad. I hate the commercial where the woman calls to say "I'm pregnant" and the call is dropped... I just say to myself "poor girl", and "poor husband when he gets home"...
I really think all the phone companies are working together against us, and it doesn't matter who you get.
Hope you are having a great week.
Hugs, Tricia :tigger34:
Never liked AT&T for a cell provider after my daughter got her first cell phone years ago. They never wanted to fix problems with the phone and billed her for nonsense and after 2 years still never corrected the problem. Now she has cingular I think the same company again. I like Verizon and have been pretty happy for the last 8 years.
Hello to your family and how is work?
i don't like those dropped call commercials ... i have cingular/at&t, and my calls get dropped all the time... & here it went from SNET to SBC to Cingular to AT&T ... & they all rip you off...
My daughter has t-mobile.and has had many problems....alot of times she can't even get service in certain areas...sometimes in her own house!!..I have NEVER had problem with at&t / Cingular, .or whatever they choose to call themselves by this time next year.....LOL....& I have been with them for almost 10 years......I've never had any dropped calls etc.
P.S. actually, I think it was SW Bell when we first bought our cell phone 10 years ago or so.....then AT&T / Cingular/ At&T.....when AT&T took over again, they sent my mom a letter telling her that her cellphone will be obsolete the end of July....
I don't have AT&T, or Cingular, or whatever it is.
But I must say I'm pretty confused as well.
I'm quite happy with US Cellular though.
My husband reads you... he got a kick out of it but he could launch into a million reasons why the merger happened, and why the names have changed... BTW, did I mention that he works for AT&T, the former Cingular? I should also mention that we have about 18,000 XL Mens polos with the "Cingular" logo up for grabs.
i have Cingular service for work
i have verizon for home
my verizon phone service is far superior
fees and service
and i like the " in thing"
cingular and verizon side by side...and i can make and get calls on verizon..and dead air on Cingular
so in NJ..
i rest my case
the ONLY thing cingular MIGHT have going for it .is the IPHONE contract
time will tell
then again who cares how hot the phone is ...if all u can really do with is is listen to music ?????
again... time will tell
RYC: Yeah, you're pretty much screwed now... sorry
No, he thought it was great! He knows how annoying it is, though it puts the roof over our heads, so we ain't bitchin!
All that buying out companies and changing names back and forth confuses me too. :confused35:
T-Mobile, baby
I think it's the cingular - cellular thing. I like t-mobile's customer service and the phone service is very good in and around the city rarely have a dropped call but they could be a lot better on the minutes. From what I hear from people I know in the windy city cellular has the best minute plan cause they have the carry over minutes but for some reason they don't have cellular in colorado. All of the cell phones are worthless in the mountains cause you can't get a signal.
A cingular - cellular t-mobile minute by Blackheartedforce.
I hate cell phone companies period. We finally got the text messaging thing stopped on Mr F's phone but it took months of going to the Sprint store and complaining and having them take the charge off and listening to arrogant young clerks who thought they owned the company. As far as the name changing...the banks did that and it drove me nuts too.
Love some of the ads too, but this phone company thing is really over the top... :question29:
my entire family uses Cingular/AT&T/Cingular..... I however have verizon....their the devil!
Yeah, we had the same issues with AT&T/Cingular(which really sounds like Singulair-the medicine). They gave us a run around crazy problems too. They wouldn't let me & my husband go on the same plan though I had Cingular & he had AT&T???? (this was after they had merged together) They told us some crazy answer like you got. So then we decided to go with Verizon. When we called to cancel with our respective companies.......magically they were telling us that we SHOULD have gotten a plan together & they could have set that up for us!!! Oiyyy! We like Verizon & a lot of my family has them too, so we all talk for "free." (no such thing as free but you know what I mean.)
I love those commercials. My favorite one is the pregnant one, I think "Way to step up Rick" or whatever it is, is a GREAT line and makes the commercial.
Also, I think it's funny that Jennie thinks that people always know when a call is ended because I was on the phone with her today and she hung up and I had no idea and kept talking.
Dude, I love those commercials. I like the one with the "connection" best. Closely followed by the woman who tells her husband she's pregnant, because I like watching his reaction.
man i hate when i keep talking to myself after a dropped call ! it's almost embarrassing
I worked for a cell company before I went on maternity leave, and I got into many arguments with supervisors on policies that just don't make sense. It's frustrating behind the scenes too, because I'd have to try and explain and convince this dumb policy. Like the one about the phones. *shakes head* sounds just like cell companies... or sorry, they like to be called "wireless providers" since they're "not cellular" *rolls eyes*
I believe I wrote a ranting entry about this dang issue a year or so ago. And then the dang trick that Cingular has is that it may say Cingular on their sign but they aren't really Cingular. They are just an authorized dealer whatever the hell that means. I was about to tell them to shove Prisses phone up their behinds but I couldn't because Jack, her essential other, has Cingular and so they talk free. So I had to drive 30 miles to a real Cingular to get her a new phone to replace the one which she did not get wet no matter what the Cingular who wasn't Cingular employee said.
I had Bell South when it changed to Cingular....that company has always been confused!
They all suck! The creation of cell phones is the devils work. LOL Course I might be just a little prejudice given as I was a CSR for Cingular....
Hugs'n'Smooches!
I'm with Jennie on this topic. I hate _______________ .
You can tell Jennie that the people in the commercials? They figure it out, make up, clear the air, etc., and they laugh about it for years!
These companies are daft eh? Here we have had brand name foods change over the years as Britain has become more and more Americanised. Marathon bars became Snickers a few years back, Opal Fruit sweets became Starburst and it's annoying as feck :hmmm22:
I'm confused. I've had [ Houston Cellular - turned Cingular Wireless - turned AT&T ] for years and I've replaced my phone three times. They've all been Nokia phones and I've never had a problem because the company had changed names. The only "equipment replacement" issue I've been aware of is that older model phones (with analogue equipment) are being phased out in favor of the newer digital equipment because after February 2008 *no* cell phone company's towers will support the older analogue anymore. Are you sure you aren't getting scammed by a corrupt sales person?
I feel betrayed by my phone. I thought I had a life long (okay, 2 year, 24 month) SERIOUS commitment and now it has a whole new name that the little fish that greets me with happy phone bubbles now spits out at me. How can I love a pile of initials after years of cervice from cuper, cincere Cingular?
I went thru the sme thing with ATT/Cingular/ATT. I loved the my old ATT cell phone.
I am told we had to get new phones because the old ones were not digital. Now I have the camera phone and that is fun, so all is good. My problem was, because I have a company plan no one thought about calling a different tel number to activate the new cell phone as noted in instructions. Who reads the instructions including cell phone employees?
I like those commercials.
The worst is the one with the pregnancy. That poor guy is so excited, and the wife thinks he's an asshole.
Other good cell phone commercials:
1. Cingular/AT&T text messaging:
Daughter: OMG, INBD.
Mother: It is a big deal. Who are you texting 50 times a day?
Daughter: IDK, my BFF Jill.
Mother: Tell your BFF Jill that I'm taking away your phone.
Daughter: TISNF!
Mother: Me paying this bill, that's what's S.. N.. F.
hahaha
2. The one where the kids throw away the minutes (I forget what company), and the mom gets pissed and takes them out of the garbage.
"They're rollover minutes, they're exactly the same!"
3. Verizon? The one where the "network" follows people around.
4. Whatever company did the one where the mom and daughter were "fighting" but they were really saying nice things.
Things that should NEVER be allowed in cell phone commercials:
1. Jane Cussac (sp?)
2. Can you hear me now?
3. Carrot top.
'nuff said.
I love the one with the woman telling her husband she's pregnant. Funny! Me, I don't own a cell phone and never have. I think I'm the only person in Calif without one. Never saw the need for one. Although I guess it would come in handy if I broke down on the road.
In my tele-com class my professor said that eventually AT&T is going to monopolize the phone companies again. Just watch what they swallow up.
I laughed at the commercial with the mom and the daughter...I could so see that conversation going on with my daughter and I...not the "don't make the same mistake part" but the part where the daughter doesn't answer due to the dropped call...only my daughter just wouldn't answer LOL We've got verizon and only drop calls when we are deep in the redneck woods..which isn't often.
I like the one where the Dad tells the kids they can IM all they want now.
And the kids say, we already IM all we want.
And the dad says, yeah but now mom can quit her second job and she walks in wearing a chicken costume (or some costume)
Don't know which company that is though :question29:
by the way, your siamese twin head is freaking me out :blur6:
That is why I don't watch commercials.
Yep... I know what you're talking about and I retired from SBC Communications that is now the "new" AT&T now - I'm just glad I took all of my money at once! :sillygrin28:
Previous post: tht would be gret ide to be ble to cll the cr ner you... I definitely could've used it erlier tody.
This post: I think when cll is dropped your phone should beep or something, becuse I, too, hve tlked to myself for while before relizing I ws tlking to myself... its embrrssing, nd then you never know how muchthey herd, when did they go???
I recently switched to US Cellulr nd its completely wonderful so fr... better signl, better service.... good good good.
I get tired of all of the mergers, buyouts, what have you with these cell phone companies. At least there still is some competition there, but if they keep going they will be down to one or two-like satellite!
We LOOOVE the commercials. Way to step up, Rick!
Sprint all the way!!!
Haven't been on in awhile, how are you?
Hugs~
i personally like those commercials
T-Mobile commercials SUCK
Good heavens....my service is sooo bad I can't even get a connection sitting in my kitchen!!
I have the same problem with Sprint together with Nextel. We had nextel a whole month before the merge. And then the problems started! This month the contract is up, and we start shopping for a new company. I think we will go back to Verizon. We didn't have trouble with them until we moved and amazingly enough, the only area here that didn't get service is the one we live in!
