  • This Blog Entry Is NOT about Harry Potter

Yes, you read that right, I am NOT going to talk about Harry Potter, the book or the movie.

Sorry to disappoint, but this is really getting out of hand.  I read an article about a couple in Oregon who were headed to Barnes and Nobel on their wedding night to get a copy of the book.

Granted Expunge and I spent much of our wedding night counting our money, but going to get a book?  Weird.

I wonder if they read aloud to each other all night?

I could see ordering it and reading it on your down time during the honeymoon, I mean even Viagra addicts need a break.  But to go to a bookstore on your wedding night, it's just crazy.

I just don't get what the rush is.  The book is not going anywhere.  It's just like when people wait in line for hours, in the cold, for a new game system.  What is that?

We always have to be first in this culture.  Just like the people who practically pee their pants when they are first to comment on certain popular xanga sites.  You know who you are.

I feel like it's just me and the people who think Harry Potter is the devil who did NOT get the book yet.

I'm assuming all the book stores are sold out, I think it would be funny to call a bunch of them and ask if they have the book.

I know, real mature right?  It would be fun to hear the clerks reactions though.  I'm sure they would be appalled at my stupidity.

I could do a comparative study of which book store clerk got the angriest when asked if they have the book.

Why do some people in that book have normal names and some don't?  I think that's irritating.  I mean Hermione?  No one could even pronounce it until the first movie came out .

My name was going to be Harry if I was a boy.  Harry Pincus, OMG how cruel is that?

Thank you God for making me a girl.  Remember there was no Harry Potter in 1960.

Well thanks for taking the time to read this non- Harry Potter entry.  I am off to read some more non- Harry Potter entries, if you have one let me know.

    I might come by.

  • I thought that stupid book would be sold out too....but Target had a whole shelf full of them! Doesn't matter to me, I won't be spending my 18 dollars on it.

  • $18? i saw it advertised somewhere for $30!!! i haven't read any of the HP books & i've seen bits & pieces of the 1st & 2nd movie but not by my choice... i don't understand all the hoopla, either...

  • I have posted on Harry Potter at least 10 to 15 times and then I have mentioned the book about 5-10 times in photoblogs and yet I have never watched the movie or read the book.

  • WTH - this was a post about nothing ...::sigh::

  • My silly son (20) went into a bookstore and read the last page of the Harry Potter book.

    lol.....

    He just wanted to know.

  • I actually have an ancestor with the name Hermione.  We didn't know how to pronounce it either until the movie came out.

I haven't bought it yet, but bittersunday was kind enough to message me the ending.  So now I'm in no rush.  I'll get it eventually.  And the Border's by me still has plenty.  They did $30,000+ worth of business Friday night/Saturday morning though.

  • It could have been worse - they could have named you Harriet Pincus!  LOL!  And since we are talking about books, and I said "Harriet", do you remember the "Harriet the Spy" books?  Oh, man, I loved them!

    Kathi

  • I am anti Harry Potter too!  we were at a restaurant and this know it all man kept talking to his daughter about a movie, book,  etc,  going into great detail...........and hub and i finally realized it was about Harry potter and rolled our eyes,  the man said something about the last movie not being as realistic,  etc...............hub says,  My gawd man,  that's why they call it fiction!!!   :P

  • lol...

Sorry.... I love Harry Potter... yes, I am a fan... I love to go to the movies with my kids... BUT, I have not read any of the books...

It always puzzled me, too, why people wait in lines for Wii games and iPhones and such... I can understand the kids being excited about the books.. the story line is great and it will go down in history as a classic, just like the Wizard of Oz and the Lord of the Rings... but, going to the bookstore on your wedding night?  Sounds like someone just wanted to be on the news...

Don't worry, it will all die down soon, then there will be a new CRAZE coming... there always is...

    Have a great week, girl!

    Hugs!

  • I was at a prayer meeting responsible for the closing prayer when someone asked me to pray for her aunt ,I wish to GodI that I  had just prayed for Dottie's aunt ....but noooooo,I had to say "WHAT IS HER NAME?...do you know how hard it is to pray for a "Henrietta  Hinnerschitz" without laughing?

  • I think that I sort of snorted while trying to behave....but when I peeked and saw someone fixing his head rug that I thought was hair I did start laughing. I never said a quicker Amen in all my days!

  • I was making a delivery to a book store and the owner was hammering me to buy a copy. I think there are more copies than all the hype.

    Can anybody say "fiction"?

You can guess my age by the fact I haven't read one book and when the movies came out on the local network movie night I couldn't watch more than about ten minutes before switching to the Lawrence Welk Show. I hate Lawrence Welk.

  • I have never read or seen ANY of the HARRY POTTER ..STUFF

    :)
I just wanted to tell you that :)

  • Also :)
my Dad ...age 76 ..was at Barnes and Noble
    on personal business :) ..
when the devil got the better of him.. he told me
" Jaz ..the store was FILLED with HARRY POTTER everything! ... you name it they had it.. I just could not control myself.. I had to ask the sales man as I was paying for my purchases.." hey .. who is this Harry Potter guy?? and what did he do?"

My dad can be such a BAD BOY :)
he gets a great look on his face when he pulls a routine like that...
    I wish I was there !

  • We had to make sure not to put any Harry Potter books into lockers at the p.o. until AFTER midnight. Someone who ordered the book for their kid was upset when they looked online and saw it was delivered before midnight. WTF? We scanned them in but they weren't actually put out where the public could get them until later. Why it even mattered is beyond me. Did the ink in the books disappear if they were opened before midnight or something????

  • I really don't want to know what kinky sex-game the newlywed couple had planned for that book on their wedding night.

People think if they are the first to get something they are better than the people who didn't get there first.  Like when we were kids and we'd race to the roll call line, because if you're not a winner you're a loser.

I have not read any Harry Potter book and don't plan to either.  I saw the very first movie.  It didn't blow me away.  I like reality better.

  • When the last book came out, our local B&N hosted this midnight party for the crazy folks who wanted to buy their book the instant it came out.  A friend of mine preordered her copy and talked me into coming with her.  I swear, it was a freakin' high school reunion!  All these people I hadn't seen in two years home for the summer, and all they wanted was the latest and greatest Harry Potter book.

  • Yes the world has gone crazy with the Harry Potter stuff.  I never read the first book.  It is actually dangerous stuff to read and the parents let their kids read it.  What has happen to these people?
    Have a great day!    ~Cookie~

  • Finally, the voice of reason!!!! It's a bloody STORY. I find it amazing that people worldwide are so hung up in the Potter saga that they act as though Harry Potter and co-horts are real people. My kids love the books but I wont be rushing out to buy one until the chaos surrounding the launch has died down, maybe Xmas...

  • My children and I love the Harry Potter series. I casually stopped at Walmart as I drove home Saturday morning and there was a huge stack of books.  No lines, no problems.  However, I did see several people in the parking lots getting out of their car and running into the store (as if they believed there would only be one book left).  It cracked me up.

  • I couldn't get interested in harry potter....so, you won't find a thing about it on my site.  I just don't understand what people see in it.....kids yes, but adults?  nope...

  • I stopped to get one (the book) for the kid on the way home from work.... $18.18 at Sam's club, they only had about a thousand left, better hurry.  I guess it'll be numero uno on the NYT's best seller list with 8.3 million sold this weekend.

  • 24th!

I've never understood the need to wait in line for new stuff.  Especially new game systems.  Personally, I would prefer to find out whether a game actually works or not before I hand over hundreds of dollars for it.

As for Harry Potter, I'm fairly confident there are probably more copies printed than there are people on Earth... so the bookstore will most likely have it in stock when I get there.

  • You can come by and visit me, Im not reading the book.

  • I enjoyed reading all the HP books, but I am by no means addicted. My daughter picked up the book on the way home from work yesterday and I will read it when I am finished with the one I am currently reading. And I won't stay up all night to finish it. I will take my time like I do any other book and I will appreciate it if no one spills the beans on who lives and who dies!

  • I'm not reading the book though 2 of my kids are.

I'm glad you were a girl too! LOL!

  • Ohmigosh; you are too funny!

  • Priss was in line at Walmart at midnight and stayed up all night reading.  I asked her if it was packed. She said nope, me and one other nerd and they had about 600 hundred books.  She was worried he was going to die and had to find out.

  • Ryc: not meant to be mean - meant to be funny, like a seinfeld episode

  • I have to admit, when I saw the big line and the tents and the people dressed up at our local bookstore, I wished the boys were old enough to join in. It looked like fun!!

  • Harry Potter is retarded. I cannot believe what teenagers do for a book...

  • Hm. You know I went to pick up The Deathly Hallows the night it came out. Really, I know it's kind of crazy to go out to the local bookstore a midnight, but it'd be last time I would ever have the chance to do it.

Really, it was pretty fun. Everyone looked really dorky, but this meant I was one of the top 10 coolest people there.

Anyway,  your observations are petty (but so are mine). True, it doesn't matter to me if someone doesn't care for the series. I don't blame them for anything. But I'd rather it if you (and the people who comment you simply to agree) didn't scrutinize other people's enjoyment like they were simply below you. Oh, and I do so like how you think all of us want to be so very 'special' for picking it up first thing in the morning. Thousands of fans buy the book on its release night, so there really is no first.

    Silly lady. =D

  • We all wanted to find out what happened at the first opportunity.  I don't think it's that weird.  I do think it's a little unneccessary to go get the book on your wedding night, though.

  • wedding night is for sex, not some dopey book! right on!!!

  • you are not alone. i laughed when i saw a HUGE stack of new books at wal-mart yesterday. of course wal-mart would have a surplus.

  • I SWEAR I didn't wait in line!!! And I bought 2 OTHER, not-insanely-popular books when I was at the bookstore! Please, please believe me!

  • well first of all, the reason we all stood in line till midnight at release parties is for the simple fact that there was a lot of hype, and we were all convinced that there would be no books left unless we get one then or order one. and also, because they were parties, which meant that it wasn't all standing in line. we could dress up like complete nerds and be with all of our other nerd friends and wait for our favorite books in style while participating in retarded activities and such.

and i can see why none of you guys understand the harry potter hysteria. you can't understand it unless you read the books. j.k. rowling in my opinion, is one of the greatest writers. (i read a lot, so i should know. and not just kid books either, i am fourteen, and i read all kinds of books) her stories are so amazing because she weaves reality with makebelieve and she created an entire world, that is so amazingly detailed and incredibly realistic, considering the plot. one can almost believe in such a world (just the stupid kids who have no common sense decide they will take up wicca. not all of us kids are retarded. hell freezes over when i become wiccan because of a book.) all of her characters are not only great, but they have their flaws that make them human. and in the entire series, i have never once seen a cliche. ever. that's how good she is. the reason we all love it, is just because they are incredibly written, exceptionally good books. just thought i should explain it to you. no one seems to have read the books here, and the movies just don't even come close. at all. if you really want to see harry potter, read the books.

  • oh my gosh, it's me.

  • oh my gosh....your photo is a charactiture of me in my new job

  • Hey, Myra, Matt...look at this.

  • i fully support this blog! i cant imagine waiting in line hours early to try and buy the book. while the writing is good in all the harry potter books, i dont find it to be a necessity. further, the people that i find to be intelligent about it were the ones who bought the book on amazon.com since it was guaranteed to be at your door when the mail came on the day of release. go figure - my brother did that. he didnt have to wake up early, he didnt have to wait in line or anything like that... he simply slept in, ate some lunch, and waited until around 1 when the mail came. and bingo - there it was.

  • My sil that doesnt know how to read book keeps telling me about the book. Hinting me to go and buy... sorry but to tell her that asking her to go ahead instead. She complain and excuse alot.. not wanting to go. the book for cousin of course.. I am not a reader. No way i am going to the queue to buy a BOOK. I had my beauty sleep instead.

you are welcome to visit my blog any time.

    have a nice week.

  • i know in my case, i rushed out because i knew the media/internet/etc would be talking all about it, and i didn't want to hear the ending prematurely.  nothing pisses me off more.  so i felt FORCED to go out and buy it and read it like a speeding train.  not that I complained to much....but still, that's why i was one of the stampeding morons who needed it immediately.....

i think it's funny tho that your post kinda ended up being about HP anyhow...hehe...

  • I'm not wasting time or money on that junk ever. My entry isn't about Harry Potter, and I wouldn't make one about Harry Potter unless I wanted to let the world know how much I hate it. But yeah people are all ridiculous about it here. I mean, one of the movies is on at the cinema at the moment. I was there one night to see another movie, but Harry Potter was about to start as mine ended. There were ADULT people dressed in Harry Potter costumes and had ridiculous shirts with ridiculous Harry slogans. My sister in law and I were commenting to each other that we thought since our city has a curfew that only adults were supposed to be out at that time of night but it looked like the local kindergarten thought it was the middle of the day and came. Dressing up like Harry Potter to see the movie, yeah, I would have thought maybe a kindergarten kid, but adults out after curfew? Maybe there should be a curfew for adults that act like kids too.

  • yeah we saw some at target last night. who would spend their wedding night to buy the book? gosh you just got married, wait a week. you'll live.

plus on boxedthoughts.com people are starting fights over spoliers. granted i act close to the same with pirates of the caribbean, but its not like i waited hours to see the movie.

people need lives. simple as that.

  • People just like to read it fast because everyone has been DYING to know what happens! =P

  • you said you werent going to talk about harry potter but you did.

  • well Target got a whole bunch of 'em!

  • PS..  I agree with iplaytheoboebetterthanyou_100

If you haven't read the books, you haven't seen Harry Potter.

  • hey, at least this way kids are waiting in line for books instead of the gaming systems they normally would.

Because exercising your mind by reading is way better than blowing things up on a video game.  Which is fun too, I guess, but...you know what I mean.

  • I'm not really a Harry Potter fan,but there's a LOT of people waiting before the store opens!I mean, people would wake up early in the morning just to read that book?I can wait...

  • I looked up (on a spoiler website) all the characters who died and put them on my away message and what pages they died on. Sorry, folks!

  • i thought me and my small group of friends are the only ones who think harry potter is overrated. ahhaa. the night it came out, we wanted to go to a bookstore, take pics of the last couple pages and put them on xanga.

  • I hate Harry Potter. I have never bought a Harry Potter book (though I received the first one as a gift from a fanatical friend who said that I couldn't dis it if I hadn't read it, so I read it and then continued to dis it). I am SO sick of all the harry potter talk. At least it's (supposedly) the last book. I will be so glad when all the movies have come out and there will be no more countdowns to harry potter anything.

Stop by my site anytime. There will never be anything Harry Potter related.

  • I just got back from vacation.  I was not about to lug a 750+ page book onto the plane back to the States.  But one of my friends- and quite a few people on the plane, including my seatmate- did.  I haven't even finished The Half-Blood Prince.

  • my brothers bought two copies, for $18 each, saturday morning at the GROCERY store. they had only stopped to get something to drink.  they had lots of copies.

  • C'mon ... there is something that we all get excited about. Whatever that thing is for each of us, the thing that makes the adrenalin course through our veins and the sense of anticipation climb to new levels, may not be so widely popular as Harry Potter, but still, we each have our own. Granted, I've not read any of the HP books, nor do I think I ever will, but I would absolutely love to think that should I ever have a book published, it would generate the same kind of mass hysteria, climbing over top of each other madness that Harry Potter has.

  • There've been cases where the book was sold out in certain areas & it took a while for people to get it. Anyway, I'm pretty sure the reason people rush to get it is because the popularity has caused some haters & bullies to look for what happened & troll the Internet to tell readers exactly what happens before they get a chance to read it. Generally I like the book to unfold as I'm reading it & not have people send me random emails with a list of who has died and how the book ended.

I don't think Rowling is the greatest writer ever (totally subjective) but I think that for a lot of people - myself included - the books are pretty fun. I liken it to people who get excited over Rocky Horror, dress up, go see it, etc (a film I cannot stand, btw). There's an experience that comes outside of the book & that includes the costumes, or little events that are held which can be fun even if you aren't a reader of the series. I think of it as a themed Halloween party.

I love how people here are slagging video games. Apparently all games are about blowing things up! Maybe they haven't played Big Brain Academy. Also, of course people wait in line for new systems, or have people not noticed how hard it is to come by a Wii?

  • i'm not a fan of harry potter either, but you gotta give j.k. rowling props for inspiring millions and millions of kids to read. if it weren't for her, kids would sit around watching tv all summer long instead of reading her book.

  • i really like this entry. me and my dad had quite the chat about how stupid all this is and laughed at the people that rush to read it in day. now im off to spread some anti-harry joy.

  • well your title and first line reference harry potter so you are promoting it . good job .

  • It's called it's a series
The last book in a series
And if your a fan it's fun
I mean you're telling me there isn't something that you're that into where you would go and get it as soon as possible
    It's a good read
and I mean for christ sakes yeah some people go to extremes and what not
But to say any book is only for children that isn't on the reading level of "See Spot Run"
Is a tad bit inane and your then your just profiling shit
I was reading Ayn Rand and Steinback in fourth grade or is that not allowed or acceptable because their "Adult Books"
Yeah some people do go a bit crazy i.e. the couple you mentioned
But god forbid apparently that people have fun with something
    Oh and the name bit
    It's set in ENGLAND
Just because a name isn't common here doesn't mean it's not common over their
    And lastly
If it's a good book people are supposed to get attached to the characters their supposed to think of them as real people. The fact that people do just means that J.K. Rowling did one hell of a fine job.
    That is all

  • yeah, they really aren't sold out in most places... its not like it was a limited release. the bookstores know that the book is gonna sell a shitload, they buy enough to keep it on the shelves.

they're good books, you gotta respect anything that'll actually get people to read on their own time, but there actually ARE other good books out there. i've read the others harry potter books, i'm sure i'll buy this one soonish and read it, too. but i'm not feelin the rush...

  • i am glad that there are others out there like me. i read the first hp book when i was 14 and i just couldnt identify with it. i guess i was in an early teen stage where i just couldnt get into reading a book about a ten year old wizard. plus, i was never into the magic stuff like magicians or spooky movies. now i am 20 and i still cant get into it. i get kind of sick of the people who are as well. maybe i will try re-reading it when i am a mother or something, but for right now, i am sticking to what i like instead of what is popular.

  • Heh... for an entry that wasn't about Harry Potter, the series certainly was featured =P I'm sure you meant it as a sarcastic joke. Admittedly, I'm rather bad at spotting sarcasm (both in text and in person). I'm a huge fan and don't have the book yet, so no, it isn't just you.

  • Well you lied! It is sooo about Harry Potter!

I don't like anything to do with Harry Potter, it's just not my thing. But the reason some people waited in line for the book is because some places had release partys. People wait in line for game systems because they only release a certain amount (wii released 20 at my store) and when they sell out, they usually won't get more in for a few weeks. The whole name deal, it's like that in life! Some people have the weirdest names I have ever heard so why not in a book.

  • I was never really interested in Harry Potter. The special effects in the Harry Potter movies are okay to watch but other than that..Harry Potter is for cool kids.

  • As a HP fan, the reason why I waited in line to get the books is because I wanted to find out for myself what happens. If you wait a week after the book comes out to get the book sombody by then has already told you what happened either by overhearing a conversation, internet, tv.  I wouldn't wait in line for things like electronics but like I said I wanted to find out the ending of the books for myself. Plus not to mention the parties are kinda fun

  • poop out blood for all i care

  • Yes I agree that rushing to be first to get something is quite silly.

No I dont quite approve of you bashing the Harry Potter Series. I mean to say that I am not some sort of rabid fanboy, but come now, its just a series of books.

I do find it funny though, that when I waltzed into the store about an hour after the horde, there was still a few tables stacked high with books.

Reading one right now, it really is quite good.

  •  i bet it put a little speck of life into their honeymoon; they must be good friends, lol.  and honestly, that sounds cute as heck.

i, myself, didn't wait in endless lines either... i just kind'of wandered into a bookstore and found my copy burried beneath a stack of 'unloved' books.  it made my day, though.

and i'm not very far into it, not obsessed.  i am much more fond of the chronicals of narnia.  but i do love a good harry potter chew from time to time.

what is or was your favorite children's book?

  • chronicles... lol, i'm loopy or something today... obviously lost my mind.

  • Weird. I thought I commented here but IT'S NOT THERE!!!

Anyway, I would totally buy a wine cooler called Weed. I think you are a freaking genius. I would like it best if it tasted a little like mint and chamomile.

I am annoyed I don't see my other comment. Maybe I dreamed it. That's a scary thought!

  • It's an interesting series. Let people enjoy themselves, goodness.

  • I wouldn't have went to the bookstore on my wedding night. I wouldn't have been stupid enough to plan my wedding for that day! I was eagerly looking forward to Harry Potter and had planned that day for months.

  • This was a Harry Potter entry.

It was simply a Harry Potter entry that blathered on about disliking HP and how it WASN'T a Harry Potter entry.

Now, tell me, how does that make sense?

  • so much for the none harry entry seems thats all anyones talking about.I really dont care though it is there lives. Why do people make compliany entries like this anyways? How about a random entry praising God I would like that much better.

  • Psh, no one who read the books knew how to say Hermione until Rowling mentioned it in the 4th book. I've read them, and I don't think they're that great.

Anyway, this is what really caught my eye:
We always have to be first in this culture. Just like the people who practically pee their pants when they are first to comment on certain popular xanga sites. You know who you are.

    Made me laugh.

  • For a post NOT about Harry Potter, you sure rant about Harry Potter a lot.

  • You're not the only one who didn't get the book. I don't understand the obsession at all. Granted, I've never read one of the books or watched any of the movies, but that's because to me they look like children's books and movies, and I have no children old enough to warrant me watching the crap.

Feel free to stop by my harrypotterless blog. I'm pretty boring, but I live in an adult world.

  • I understand what you're saying but me being only thirteen and an avid Harry Potter fan was no less than delighted when the last book came out. And alsoquite sad. It is the end to a wonderful series. So my friends and I brought iPods and battery operated speaklers. Proceded to firlmy plant ourselves at the very front of the line jammed to some tunes and read. We were in a bookstore for god's sake it was heaven. However after all that, I walked outside after just getting the book and some asshole in front of me was reading the last paragraph.

I think its more about saying you were at the party that night though. >.< Barnes N Nobles was having a Harry Potter party and it was a nice cha ce to hang out at the mall and swing by Hot Topic and buy the shirt I've had my eye on without mother's disapproving glare.

  • I used to be a Harry Potter freak, but it was too.. Blehh for me. I don't know why I stopped reading and watching movies. Until the 4th one came out I stopped. I liked it when I was young, like when it came out.. When everybody liked it.. Now, it doesn't appeal much to me anymore. Haha.

Haha.

  • For me, I think reading the book as soon as I can is an issue of wanting to know what happens before everyone else reads it and tells me the end, which would essentially ruin the fun of reading the book.

  • I know who dies. Hate me if I say it.. HARRY DIED! im just kidding hahaha

    ;)

  • I find it sweet how a couple go to a bookstore for a book they both love.
It doesnt mean coz its HP.
It a book they both find interesting and have things in common.
So its up to them. If they dont care why should you or anyone else?

    im a big HP fan.
but as i said before in other xanga sites.

The best sellin book doesnt mean its the right book for everyone.

    <3[A]

  • i don't understand why people waste their time writing about something they don't like. put your energy into something else. people get excited over different things, sure you may thinks it's odd, but life is about enjoying things. it's fun being surrounded by people who are as excited as you about something.

  • I don't even like Harry Potter and I think this entry is really immature.

It's rare that so many people can enjoy the same thing,
especially something so innocent and not harmful to anyone.

    Live and let live.

  • I'm fairly certain this entry IS about Harry Potter.
    Your headline lies.

  • thats hilarious! border's is fully stocked in deathly hallows! i can walk in right now and get a copy! but for a lot of people, its about finding out the ending before ANYONE else. and there are also jerks giving away the ending. for me its like "hey, harry's either gonna die or he isnt. thats it"

  • made me wonder why people were standing in line just to be first...there were stacks of them on the Meijer shelf later that day...crazy people!

  • I didn't get the book either.

I was in a musical that night, and a bunch of people skipped the cast get-together to get the book.

Ridiculous, I know. I don't see what the big deal is.

And for some reason, most of the stores aren't sold out yet. I guess they learned to order more copies from the last six books!

  • Well for a blog that Isn't about Harry Potter, you made the whole blog about Harry Potter! I don't know if it is actully possible to hate a fictional character. Luke

  • this is the last and final book of a very popular series. people are gonna want it as soon as possible to read it as soon as possible and find out what happens next.

but on your wedding night, that is sorta weird

  • I know exactly how you feel! I wrote a non-Harry Potter post about two weeks ago. Then a lot of people came by my site telling me how they "never thought I was possible for any human being to not like Harry Potter."

  • Oops, I meant "never thought it was possible" Hehe

  • Don't be such a stick in the mud!
It's bad enough I read this stupid entry.

  • lol that would be an interesting comparative study.  Maybe that newlywed couple plays some kinda sex game while reading the book? *shudders*

  • Why write a blog about Harry Potter devoted to how much it is not about Harry Potter, when it is clear your intent is just to banter about it?
    How silly.

  • that's funny, cause i thought a whole entry dedicated to talking about how silly harry potter is would be an about harry potter.

  • that's funny, cause i thought an entry ranting about harry potter is about harry potter.

  • Sorry to disappoint you, but you'll certainly find Harry Potter-related things on my site.
Why get angry at people who read a book? They're not bothering you. We read it because we like it. We read it because we think it's a good book. That's all it is.

    P.S.
I was one of the people waiting in line for hours to get the book & see the movie. & guess what? I loved it.

  • It's never good to be the first to get anything when it comes to electronics or video games. The first generation of those certain "must have" items will most likely have tons of bugs needed to be tweeked. Look at the iPhone for example. If people waited 6 months, they would have a more functional working phone with longer battery life and more features, plus a lower price. But no, they had to be first and now all they're doing is complaining about how much the phone sucks and that they're out $600.

  • well mainly people who are big fans, like myself, wanted to get the book and read it right away before the plot/ending was leaked to them. It's not so much about being first in the respect that you read it before anyone else.. it's more like being able to first read it before someone comes along and ruins the book for you on the internet, on tv, or even in person.

    example:
Me: *busily reading the sixth book, about halfway through it*
My boyfriend's sister: HEY? IS THAT THE BOOK WHERE DUMBLEDORE DIES?Me: I don't know..?

(it was my first time reading that book, and it really sucked to have the ending spoiled from me by someone else. it took a lot of feeling and emotion out of the ending cause I already knew what was going to happen.)

  • 'Yes, you read that right, I am NOT going to talk about Harry Potter, the book or the movie.'

and yet the whole entire entry, you talked about the book.

  • ???

That doesn't make sense, saying this entry isn't about Harry Potter, then rambling on about what people did to get the book. :(

A couple deciding to go get a book isn't -freakin- wierd, Ya'll just have it in your head that it IS wierd.  They like the book, they wanted to get it, they wanted to know what happened, GET OVER IT!  Don't make such ugly assumptions about them, that's rude.

"We always have to be first in our culture"  Umm ... why would you just assume that the -THOUSANDS- of Harry Potter fans want to be first ... when there's thousands of fans waiting in line.  Lmao, most of them knew they wouldn't be first anyway.  "Zomg, but they totally wanted to be first!"  Just becuase they are waiting in line at the midnight release doesn't meant they -want- to be first.

Before you say i'm one of the fans who thinks people who didn't get the book are the devil ... not true.  I don't get furious at anyone who hasn't read Harry Potter, i just say "You should, they are lovely books if you like fiction."  I waited a while before watching all the movies that were out.  The books?  I just like to read fiction, and the Harry Potter books are fiction, thus I like them.

The fans are just fans, get over it.  You tell me you haven't gotten excited about meeting someone you wanted to meet?  or getting something that you wanted to get?  Just becuase you didn't wait in line at midnight for it doesn't mean you're that much different from any other fan, luv!

  • I actually know a Hermione. She's the only person I know with that name though.

  • I bought it and I read it all in one day...not because I had to be first or because I think I am better than anyone else. It just happened that I felt like crap on Saturday and stayed in bed most of the day and read. Because I could. Usually I am not granted that opportunity.

Also, I enjoy the books and I wanted the experience of the last book to be mine without someone giving something away. Like my sis in law who is nothing short of cracked out on HP and dying to talk about any/all of it.

But, all that being said, I would be getting laid on my wedding night...not buying a book.

    :)

  • So, since it was actually about Harry Potter then.  *rolls eyes* I'm sure that was meant to be the point, and I'm sure it had some kind of witty point to make but still.

Why does everyone seem to deem it necessary for Harry Potter to be wrong.  Suddenly, again, it's cooler to not like it and it's weird to want to go to get it and read it quickly.

News flash to every last one of you.  We like the books, we're excited, we don't want them spoiled so we want to read them quickly.  Hell, I wanted to read it quickly because I love the books, and the anticipation and then to finally get to read it all is part of the magic.  What's it to you if others do get these books and read them so quickly.  How exactly does it harm you?  You're just being judgemental.  Oh getting the book at midnight if it's your wedding night is weird!  Whatever.  I don't understand how you all don't understand!  It's not difficult.  We love the books and are excited about the final one.  Go figure.

I don't judge you, stop judging me.

  • I don't think that people are going to run out, just because they know how huge it would be in sales for them, lol... I love the Harry Potter books, but I think that the movies are boring as all get out... I bought my book around 6pm on Saturday, and my fiance said that Walmart still had tons of copies. I'm still not done with it. I'm enjoying it, not losing sleep over the fact that I want to get it done. I want to appreciate the story, lol!!

  • Like any movie series, the first three are always the best. Once you go over that, it gets tedious.
The books I can understand. As an avid reader, I like series books. I like having something more to read, to see where the author takes the story. But this Harry Potter thing has gone too far.
There, apparently, was a meeting at a Wal-Mart in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada where literally everyone was dressed up in robes and such for the whole Harry Potter book being sold. My friend said she and a couple of others were the only ones not dressed up. That is pathetic!

You won't see me posting anything about Harry Potter in my life time.

  • Ooo well done for a non-HP entry.

You mentioned Harry's name in there about seven times =D

  • What a relief it's not about Hairy Potty -whew- (sigh of relief) I gather there are people who have posted about this HP "phenomenon" 10 to 15 times without even reading any of the books or watching any of the movies. Personally I've taken my kid to see the movies but simply can't see what the fuss is all about.

  • You are not alone.

I haven't even bothered to go out and buy it yet. In fact, I do not think I am going to buy it at all.

Although I enjoy reading the Harry Potter series, I won't stand outside in the cold waiting until midnight just to spend my money on some book. It's completely..pointless.

Ha. Don't visit my xanga; my last post was made..last year? It's a non- Harry Potter post though.

  • I tried to post a HP post, but xanga ate it. Apparently, xanga is sick of HP too. But I love the books. The post before last was a slightly-HP post. I wouldn't read it if I were you. It includes the words midnight and long lines and me being there, but I was too smart to wait in line. I went to walmart where there was no line.

  • this...WAS a post about Harry Potter...

  • Well where do you live?

Remember that this is based in London, and it's a wizarding world, for Pete's sake, so why should they have common names like Laura and Mike?

It seems like you have something against the book.

And they're NOT sold out everywhere, so get your facts straight. I just picked it up from Barnes and Noble yesterday and they had a huge pile.

I mean really, I agree with the fourth comment. This is a post about absolutely nothing.

  • Yes, I enjoyed reading this entry that was non-HP but somehow, all about your opinions on Harry Potter. That was very ironic.

I understand not liking the series. I know a lot of people who don't. It's a matter of taste and opinion. My mom believes it's satanic... I bought the 7th book on the second day it was oout, no huge lines, no fighting for it... there was a whole section of shelves at K-Mart full of it... and only about ten of them were gone. Maybe you're the one who's wrong to think that everyone who reads Harry Potter is that crazy about it.

Yes, I like Harry, but I much prefer Special Agent Pendergast (another long series) and Invisible Monsters, but if Harry Potter is what two people choose to do on their honeymoon (I actually respect that they're un-horny enough for that. Sex is so primitive), how is that your problem? If that's what they find to be fun, more power to them for breaking tradition and staying true to whatever it is they love.

  • Instead of waiting until midnight, why don't people just sleep early and go to Safeway at 7 am and buy it there? I saw a few copies on the shelf.

  • i'm too lazy and impatient to get things when they first come out... i have no desire to wait or stand in line for hours on end just to be the first for whatever.  however, i AM guilty of getting the pottery back early.  i just ordered it online.  it was cheaper, simpler, and...no line for the lazy!  i got it for my 15 hour flight to korea next week.

  • Oh, also, I think people hurry to get Harry Potter because the 5th book had it's ending spoiled in the newspaper and the goal is to finish it before the end is public knowledge.

  • What people should be sad about is that a book that is supposed to appeal to young adults and children is drawing a great amount of interest from adults.

  • Then what was the point in writing it? I didn't see anyone laughing, if it was just a silly joke.

  • I thought this blog entry wasn't about Harry Potter?

  • Harry Potter isn't dangerous to read are you fucking crazy mzcook? It's a kids book... and that's all it is. Fun. Unless of course you have trouble understanding fun and fiction and being a kid. Harry Potter is pretty much one of the biggest things in my generation, and I am not ashamed to admit I'm a part of it. I've read the books, I've seen the movies (though after the first one, the rest of the movies just went downhill, but that's besides the point). There was even this one time when, for my birthday, all my gifts were Harry Potter related. Personally, I think everyone who believes the books are overated are way too uptight about the whole thing. Besides, wouldn't you rather have your kids reading a good book than frying their brains with TV and the computer?

    *Ang*

  • Wow, you took my thoughts and put it onto paper.  Thank you.  The part about this culture having the need to be first in everything, having the best, and being the best. We're so shallow.

  • at least it's all over now.
    for EVER
    haha

  • That's quite funny how you said you're not going to talk about harry potter yet thats all your post is about.

  • on a scale of 1-10 i dont care for harry potter. im sure its a good read if you get into it. and no offense to all the people who sat out and waited in line to get one of the first copies of the book...it looks ridiculous and i guess i do not understand how demand can be so high you have to get it so quickly. and if you dressed up (like in some of the youtube videos i watched, for a book premiere), god bless you. wait a day or two then go to target that has literally more shelves full of that book than i care to count, for 18 bucks.

  • I can agree with the book thing and all, but this quote:

"It's just like when people wait in line for hours, in the cold, for a new game system.  What is that? "

"That" is for profit. I didnt get a chance to get on the Wii and PS3 one, but when I got 2 XBox 360's while waiting in line and then ebaying it it was well worth it. despite the gruelling 8-12 hour wait, depending on where you were located, the profit up to $1000 isnt bad at all. So at $100/hr wage avg. It's not all that bad. =)

The book is just crazy and on your wedding night... crazy.... ridiculous. =P

  • Everything is okay, and please, don't patronise me.  Your entry isn't a huge a deal and I apologise that my comment gave the impression that it was.  I tend to have a certain passion for speaking my mind and for speaking of the things I love, that's all.

I must say the sarcasm of your entry was rather lost on me, and I'm very fond of sarcasm, personally.  Suffice to say it wasn't all that funny.

I know it's a book, and I know it's just a silly Xanga entry.  It doesn't mean I'm wrong, though.

Anyway, I certainly don't want a flame war, or in fact even a discussion.  I was just responding to your blog with my own points.  Which I assume was the point of your silly xanga entry.  Of course I may be wrong.  It's not that important.

  • I'm a Harry Potter fan but I will not be caught dead at no line on no midnight waiting for a book. Sorry, I have better things to do, like sleep! hehehe

However, I do plan on either checking out or picking up a copy in a couple of weeks like I did with the rest of the books.

By the way... I don't have any Harry Potter entries... yet! hehehe

  • Haha! I think that that was funny! Your right, I never read the books only saw the movie, i dont know how to spell her name till now!!! Visit my site!

  • okay just because people enjoy harry potter doesnt mean you should feel the need to post a blog raving about how much its uninteresting.

oh and who ever goes to the store to read the last page is a moron.

  • You liar, this entry WAS about Harry Potter, specifically the book. Just because you don't delve into the story or anything doesn't mean it's not about the book if most of your entry mentions it.

  • I think Harry Potter is a big waste of money... that little wizard tool.

  • To me, it is an indication that alot of society

wants to escape reality and live in fantasy.

  • This post IS about Harry Potter!

    I feel mislead and deceived.

  • by the way, your blog was funny. I laughed

    out loud!

  • I appriciate literature too much to enjoy what people are starting to call a "classic".  Sure, I can respect the fact that it helped raise kids' reading awareness, but the story isn't really there.  Even from a literary point of view, the story just isn't there.

Yeah, I'm not fan of that.  Never really will be, either.

I could understand bookstores having loads of it, but Best Buy?!  I was in there this weekend buying some movies, and they had a whole table of books in the front of the store!  What is this?!

  • Yeah...obviously you haven't read any of the books...don't throw a fit about something you don't know about!  Just because people like something and you don't, doesn't mean that you have to bash it!  Everyone has hobbies and interests!  Be a little more open minded!

  • ok. if you hate it so much, why waste your time getting angry about it?

  • Books are easier to make then a game system. Game systems also sell out so that's why people wait to get them bc it won't be available for months. But books are published in bulk and I guess just finding out what happens is why people wait to get their hands on a copy. I actually just bought a copy at target for 18 dollars.

  • This whole blogged was based on Harry Potter.
By attempting not to talk about Harry Potter, you just blew a blog on him.

    ~~

    ~_^

  • Ummmmm... fyi
    1. Your entry *was* about Harry Potter. All the "Harry Potter hype is stupid" posts are just INCREASING the hype.
    2. The bookstores still have them. And even if they didn't... it wouldn't be that funny.
    3. What's wrong with getting excited about something? It doesn't take that long to get your book. I was at Changing Hands for a prty the night HP came out. There were around 200 people, and within 10 minutes (no joke), everyone had their book. So what's the big deal? Why can't we live life without extremes and the once-in-awhile spontaneity?

  • I think that part of the reason people might line up all night for a book (or a game system) is because they're afraid they'll be sold out if they go later.  We live in an impatient society.

I'm not sure if it's more intense in America, but in Canada, we haven't been sold out on Harry Potter.  I didn't preorder it and I didn't get it at midnight.  At 9 in the morning, after I'd woken up, showered, eaten, etc., I walked over to Superstore (not sure if you have those wherever you live) and bought the book.  No lineups or anything (probably because it wasn't a bookstore - more of a supermarket).

I'm not sure if you've read the books or not, but they really are well done.  I think part of their appeal is accessibility - the language isn't too flowery and the diction isn't obscure, but the plot is still intricately woven.  It's a good read - no need for a fan-crazed obsession, but still worth your time.

  • WOW you got featured! Congrats! Do you think they planned their wedding to be in time to fetch the book? §;>

  • all the people that waited for it at midnight i told each of them they have no lives haha

  • And hmm... the comments above mine seem to be a bit... angry at you.

I'd just like to say - it was a good entry.  Some people are just too obsessed with Harry Potter, but don't think too badly of the fans.

  • I have an un-Potter blog too.

  • haha, as was mine. It can get confusing when two super-sarcastic people have a conversation.

  • the rush is to read it before some one tells u the ending. even last year people would walk out of bookstores just having bought the book, and some one would shout like who died at them. my sister said that she was like not going to go on the computer or watch TV at all that day so she would be able to read the book and finish it without having the possibility of finding out the ending.(and she only needs one day to finish it.) I just made sure that i didn't read anything or watch anything related to harry potter till i finished.

  • haha i got the book. we went to walmart and it just there so i was like whatever and grabbed a copy. but i wouldnt wait in lines to get it, or go grab it on my wedding day or something like that. just go to walmart :]

  • people want to be first so one doesn't get spoiled by others! AND we're too excited to wait!!!! because Harry is the BEST. =)

  • Well... the book is FAR from sold out ANYWHERE.

And what's the matter with going to the store to buy a book?  Maybe they both enjoy books?  Maybe books are one of those things they both find passion for and through them, for each other?  Who are you to say that it's stupid for them to go and pursue something as simple as a book, no matter WHAT day it is?

I wonder, if they had gone instead to a drug dealer so that they could proceed to shoot up, if we would be reading this xanga entry, or having this discussion?

  • So... basically your whole entry was about Harry Potter. I just sincerely hope you are not one of those people who mock Harry Potter who haven't even read it, unlike some of your commenters. It's like complaining about your representative when you haven't even bothered to vote or find out what the issues are about.

  • AHA, you crack me up.

you're whole post was talking about harry potter, when you specifically said in the begining, "this blog entry is NOT about harry potter."

    crazypeoplethesedays, i swear.

  • I heard about a girl who had her bachlorette party by going to a book signing by J.K. Rowling, and dressing up as Harry Potter characters to celebrate the event. Her bachlorette party....how funny...
Reading this post made me laugh several times...I think you should do that comparative reactions from book store clerks. It would be hilarious to read about =P

  • Alright, so I have to agree with all of you about how... unusual... it is to buy a book on your wedding night. But for the rest of us (at least for myself) I went because it's a book series and set of characters I love and I couldn't wait to read it.

A lot of people here are making it sound as though the only reason you'd go buy the book at midnight is because you want to be the first one to read it, and I don't think that's true for most fans (I mean... Asia is, what, 13 hours ahead of us? I'd say they were first). Personally I just wanted to see what happened to everyone. It's something fans of the books have been looking forward to for a long time, and it's exciting. It's as much about the experience of being there with a bunch of other fans and having a good time.

Also, please, please, PLEASE don't think the movies are any indication of the quality of the books. How many books do you know of that were made into movies and ended up anywhere near as good as the books?

momofjenmatt: I did like that you started off saying you weren't going to talk about Harry Potter ...only you then proceeded to talk about Harry Potter, so that was a little disappointing.

You're all entitled to your opinions, but isn't it a good thing that kids (and adults) are this excited about a BOOK? It ISN'T a game system, or a movie, or a phone, and can you really say that's a bad thing?

  • I have never stood in line to be the "first [of many]" to get something. Like you, I think it's silly. If you want it, you'll get it sooner or later, right? And later means you'll get it for much cheaper. ._.;

I do admit to being a reader of the Harry Potter books, but I am not so much of a fanatic as... staying up 'til midnight at a bookstore to get it. [Hey, I don't even do that for Christmas anymore, really...] I also would certainly not hurt anyone to get the book! [as I've heard some people have done...] I think it's high time that somebody [Maybe Ms. Rowling herself?] explain that they're just books, stories, and characters. I'm sure that she never wanted anyone to get hurt from it, eh?

  • Uh, yeah... that kind of was about Harry Potter...

  • I have a non potter entry, but I am going to go get the book as soon as I get my next paycheck.

  • I'm also getting tired of hearing about that book series

  • Oh mannnnnnn!! That's soooo sad to do that on your wedding night! If you read my bio-you'll see I am not a Harry Potter fan! I agree that it has gotten out of hand and I've N*E*V*E*R* cared about him, the books, the movies or any of it! I guess I'm mean and getting old! So be it! Ba-hum bug Harry Potter~!!

  • Idunno. I do read Harry Potter, before the hype even. I get engrossed in the novels, it's my guilt pleasure, somewhat. But I'd have to say, for me, reading it asap is because I don't want to be having any spoilers floating around me, so they can ruin the book for me.
I made the mistake last time in not reading right away. I found out who died, among other things, and it just took the surprise out of the book. Mind you, it was still incredulous, but, not the emotional tear-jerker it should have been.
Mad, I was, and I'm not taking any chances with this last novel.

  • by devoting your entry to how stupid you think the harry potter rush is

you made it about harry potter

    common sense. damn.

  • Well, with game systems sometimes they only have a certain amount of systems in the stores, like with the Wii or the PS3, especially since we get those from a completely different country. As for all of the stores having books...I'm not sure if someone else said this already, but don't you think they would be smart enough to order WAY more than they'd probably sell in the first day?

As for the whole "it's just a story" thing, I don't see you guys talking that way about stuff like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars, both of which are fantasy series' that people get (or, rather, got) really hyped up about. Or maybe you are. Jeez, just let people have their fun.

Oh, and if any of you got offended, please don't comment me saying I'm stupid and I should kill myself because I like Harry Potter. I mean, god forbid someone actually have an opinion that differs from yours! Or maybe you guys are more mature than the people on iMDB. Actually, some of you do sound a LOT more mature than some of those people, who jump on you if you dare to disagree with them. You may even let people express their thoughts freely.

I will now leave you alone. Good-day to you all.

  • Please just ignore the comment...yeah, I made it, yeah I think all of that, but I missed the top half of these comments. Please don't try and figure out why that changes anything.

  • Haha, I agree.  My friends wanted me to go out to a party at Barnes & Noble to celebrate, and I just said, "That's okay.  I'm going to sleep, instead."  Granted, I have a copy now, but only because I saw it at wal-mart for a good price.  And I haven't cracked it open yet: forcing myself to finish my college essay first.  I don't understand the huge rush any more than you do.  I guess I'd like to read it soon so I don't hear people talking about the ending before I find it out for myself, but that's really it.  Well, enjoy a non-Harry Potter day!

  • I can understand where you are coming from, and to some degree, I agree myself.

But I guess it's also the built up of excitement and anxiety, that they feel that 'they can't wait a moment longer' or 'have to get it right when it comes out'.

I've never been an avid reader of Harry Potter myself, so I can't really understand what all the hype is about.

As for video game consoles first released, I wouldn't wait in line for a obviously bugged and beta version of a console. The buyers of the PS3 had their systems smoking.

  • I've actually never read a Harry Potter book or seen any of the movies.

  • Way to go, momo! Let's start a harry potter virgins blogring! I just don't do the herd thing. If you're going to travel with a herd, best drink upstream.

  • Laura, I see you made front page for your post so I had to stop back by and read the comments. I guess you did irk some die hard HP fans! LMAO! But your loyal readers like me know where you're coming from.

  • Argh I love HP, don't understand the people who don't haha. Oh and in the UK, Hermione isn't a weird name, just a rare one. There's a pretty famous British actress with that name.

  • ~it seems the harry potter series is generally more popular over here in britain...

i was in the queue on friday night, and the anticipation and excitement was what made the wait so much more bearable.

  • I think the point that the post really is about Harry Potter was made many, many comments ago and no longer needs to be brought up.

  • I think a lot of the hype is with the people who grew up reading the books.
I'm sixteen, and I've been reading them for half my life.
I bought the book the opening night.
No costume on me, and not at Barnes and Nobles, but at K-Mart.
It was a shorter line, and they had free soda and cookies for us.

I'm not reading it all in one night, I'm only halfway done with it at the moment, and I'm hoping that no one spoils it for me.

  • i just get it on the first day because there are deals like 20% off or something. though i am in no hurry to read it, i am currently reading a rather good non-hp book at the moment. but i don't wait until midnight to be one of the very first in line to get it. i also don't really understand all the parties at the stores either. funny, i prefer fanfiction hp than the real book. ^^

  • Good point! Those books are so annoying...

  • I hate harry potter. I don't see the big deal and I don't see why there is a big rush! you would think it was the end of the god damn world or something.

I was listening to the radio and WHAS.com stated that more than 72 million copies have been sold....personally...I didn't know that more than 72 million people could fucking read.

  • I think the reason people want the book as soon as it comes out is because they can't wait to find out what happens.  It's not neccessarily being "first", just anxious

  • Looks like your part of the craze now!

  • LOL, I'm not that interested in HP, either.

  • As with many people here, I've never had the slightest bit of interest in reading those books and I've never seen why so many people go insane over the series, especially to the point you're worried about getting it on your wedding night. I have a feeling that in a few years it will become just another once popular fad that people will joke about.

  • ironically your post is entirely about Harry Potter.

  • I have never read a Harry Potter book....I watched one of the movies and fell asleep...so what does that tell ya!!

  • Sorry, sweetie, I don't understand why you are so annoyed by it.

Yes, I'm one of those people who are like, "OMG HARRY POTTER IS OUT! I MUST GET IT DKJFLAKDFS!!"

And to be quite honest, what's your point? You're annoyed because people are excited over one thing. Let them be excited. God knows that's what we need in this world--a little more excitement.

Let those Harry Potter freaks do what they want. You think you're the only sane person, but it isn't true. If you looked in the right places, you would find a non-HPfreak. I've met more people on Xanga who aren't overly obsessed over the book, than people who are, though my immediate friends are interested in it. Anyway, I think you're just being as weird as the freaks out there dedicating a whole post on Harry Potter. Who cares if there's a girl named Hermione, if there's a woman named Andromeda. It's what JK Rowling chose to name them. Sheesh. Freedom of speech.

  • I don't have interest in Harry Potter since it's not diversed.

  • Um, didn't you kind of just talk about Harry Potter the whole time?

Anyway, even though I am an avid Harry Potter fan I have not purchased the book and don't plan to. I'll just borrow it from someone willing to give it up for a week.

  • Well, I have to say that I am a fan of Harry Potter but not a "HUGE" fan. I just don't understand some people they go nutso for things just like when that "Tickle me Elmo" came to the shop. Kid's lose interest in things quickly and sadly that's just what they are "things." If people want the book that badly, wait until it goes on sale, borrow it from the library, or/and family and friends...Save a tree (heh heh).

Thanks for this and you have a very lovely xangy site.

Take care, God bless, and Peace~Holly (kozlovsgal)

  • Anyway If I have kids I would name my son Milo Peter (last name) because of Heroes...

  • Personally I love the Harry Potter books and while I was not one of the many many people out there at midnight I won't deny that I wouldn't have completely objected to the idea had I had the chance. I don't think that for most people with these books it is necessarily about being first and having the book first, ok so not with ALL the people. I simply think that it is more of a need to know what happens. While the books are completely fiction there is something in them and the way that Rowling writes and how her writing style has developed that is simply thrilling. Not knowing what is going to happen with the rest of these characters after so long waiting I think is what had people standing in lines going crazy waiting for the books. I know that I even saw a dad and his kid each with a book at an Olive Garden near me both reading at the table, when they left the kid sat in the passenger seat of the car and began reading again. Ok so not as weird as the married couple, but it just goes to show, I think, that Rowling has found a way to completely capture her audience, without targeting anyone in particular.

  • UMM .. how the F! do I know you're being sarcastic! Can't usually tell in WRITING!

FYI, I have two xangas.  This xanga is so i don't get flaming comments from people on my actual xanga.

    Thanks.

  • harry potter stinx!!!
im no treading the book either

  • OH MY GOD!!!!!!! MY NAME WAS GOING TO BE HARRY TOO!!! (and I have a much much worse last name).

As for the book, me and my friends went to the meijers when it first came out, and there was this HUGE line. But we didn't even bother getting in it, oh no, we bought princess crowns and walked around the store taking pictures of each other, and then we bought side walk chalk and drew a bunch of random stuff on the parking lot :P

Hehe...That was way more worth it than waiting in a line.

  • Actually, this entry is about Harry Potter.
And there's actually a good author and a good book and people want to read it as soon as possible.
    The problem with that is...?
    Can't think of one.
The world created in the book is just one you can get lost in... It's a craze, yeah, but if you never read the books, don't even say it's stupid. It's just stupid in itself to act that way.
You never wanna get away from the adult lifestyle? You never just wanna get lost in a fantasy world to get away?
And I don't even read the books. I think you're just one of the most closed minded people I've ever seen.

  • Yeah, I got the scarcastic part when I started reading. Your title sounded like it could be a lot of fun, and then I realized you were actually going to talk about Harry Potter (I was honestly hoping you weren't; it was such a catchy title it had to be fun, right?). Oh well, maybe next time.

  • I've yet to read Book One, but am really starting to wonder what I am missing out on...Lisa

  • You talked about Harry Potter, thus making it an entry about him..

  • There's actually a rational explanation behind people wanting to get the book right away, even if some people don't understand it. Those of us who have involved ourselves in the story, and come to know and love the characters, have been waiting for years (literally) to find out how the story ends. It's not really any different from people who clamor to the TV set for their favorite show each week, because they can't wait to find out what happens next. The difference is, instead of waiting one week for the next story, we had to wait two years.

The other part of the reasoning (at least for me) was that I wanted to read the final installment before I heard anyone talking about what had happened. I got it right away, and read it quickly, so that no one could ruin the ending for me by saying: "Can you believe that..." That's my story.

  • they go for the excitement of it. i'm a huge potter fan, and we've been waiting incredibly long for this book, and there's nothing like going out and counting down to that last second with a group of people who love it as much as you do. it's not even about getting it first.

for those people who think that harry potter's "dangerous," you're just ignorant. (: and those who are bitching about it being fake... well, you just lack an imagination, don'tcha? boring folk. silly muggles.

  • Ummm, yeah. You just entirely contradicted yourself.

At first you wrote that the blog was NOT going to be about Harry Potter.

    "the book or the movie."

But the entire entry dealt with the book, and even some of its characters.

While I do agree with what you had to say about getting the new game system (why wait in line when it is going to be there anyway, right?) I do have to speak up about books having characters with names that are uncommon.

Uncommon names in stories give the character a sense of individualism and set them apart from other characters. If a main character's name was Ashley, for example, and she did something extraordinary, you cannot just walk on the street and say, "What Ashley did for the world was incredible!" and automatically have someone recognize that EXACT Ashley right off the bat. If the character's name was Hermione, for example, and you mentioned that name on the streets, people could easily identify. Having a name that is difficult to pronounce can also have a creative psychological effect upon the reader, making them bend their minds to whatever pronunciation best fits their style of reading. They are then put into their own little world. But you also have to remember, many stories, as with Harry Potter, are FICTION stories. Fictional characters tend to have exaggerated names, or names never even heard of before. Personally, I think it's invigorating, not irritating, but perhaps that has something to do with the fact that I prefer reading and writing fictional stories over nonfiction.

  • ironically this whole post was about Harry Potter.  hmm

  • first time here and i agree 99.9% with your post! why? well, i haven't read HP at all, so i can't be sure if i would be as fanatic. overall, your humor is quite amusing!

  • I just didn't want to have to hear the ending from anyone else. Plus, it's kinda nice to celebrate a release with people who are as big as fans as you are.

At least, that's why I went to one of those parties...

  • Yes Harry Potter is insane, but we should all party down cause it's the last book and now people won't know what to do with themselves haha.

aanndd uhm yea Barnes and Noble actually had the book stocked up real good. (my mother dragged me along to buy the book and nooo she wouldnt buy ME a book)

anyways, toodles! and Snaps for the wonderful rant!

  • Actually the harry potter books are very easy to get. You can go to a place like CVS and still be able to get it. People who wait on lines are the ones for the most part, dont want the book to be ruined for them by people posting spoilers online. Oh, and names like Hermione, or Seamus are british and irish names that are commonly seen.

Gaming systems and such, I never understood why people waited online to get those either. I meen sometimes theres something wrong with the intial release. :;shrug:: i guess we will never know...

  • I just didn't want to have to hear the ending from anyone else. Plus, it's kinda nice to celebrate a release with people who are as big as fans as you are.

At least, that's why I went to one of those parties...

  • Actually, my rationale for wanting to purchase it the moment it became available was that it was kind of...magical, to know that thousands upon thousands of people across the world were reading the book for the first time on the same day. It's almost like an international holiday, and personally I tend to get excited about upcoming holidays.

  • hahaha I'm sorry but I'm a die-hard fan of Harry Potter books and I wonder if you've read all the seven books.....

  • dont be a party pooper.  just because you're not into harry potter doesnt mean its a bad thing, and people are excited to read it.  yeah, some people thinks its satanic and shit, and thats their opinion..or religion, or whatever.  i guess the point is, i disagree with you. the harry potter series was a brilliantly crafted story, and you would know that if you stopped complaining about why people are so crazy about it and picked up the first book yourself.  thanks, bye.

  • yeah, we got that, but it wasn't so clever.

  • What''s the meaning of this post??

No offnese, but some people really like the Harry Potter series. My sister and I stayed up until 1 o' clock in the morning to get it. Ofcourse, my sister is the only one who reads it, I enjoyed staying up. =)

  • you really should give harry potter a try. it's not a stupid fad- they're extremely imaginative and well written. i don't usually buy into stuff like this- i never did pokemon or watched power rangers or anything, but this is totally worth it. really, i promise.

  • i don't hate harry potter,
i just think harry potter sucks.

  • this was about harry potter though...actually.

  • Interesting how your "non-Harry Potter" post seemed to be about how you didn't understand the craze behind Harry Potter. Kinda makes it a "non-non-Harry Potter" post. ^_^

  • I don't have enough time to read Harry Potter's books since they are too thick..

  • Yeah, I agree. People act like that about everything. The book isn't going anywhere. The movie isn't going anywhere. The road isn't going anywhere. (Sorry, roadrage moment). But I am a diehard Harry Potter fan, so I somewhat understand the rush to finally discover all the mysteries and stuff of the very last book. But yeah. I was surprised there wasn't a murder or two for those people trying to get at the book first, lol.

  • This Harry Potter's MADDNESSS Finally ends. I think I can die and go to heaven now. ^_^ aahha I KID I KID. Nice entry. Your post is not directly about Harry Potter ,but it was indirectly about him...if you know what I mean. ;] lols.

  • actually you talked all about harry potter...

  • LOL I love your entry too.  I used to pronounce Hermione as Her-mee-oh-knee.  What a funny pronounciation too.  You say this is a non-Harry Potter post and yet here you are ranting about it lol.

  • um...that was about harry potter...

  • Honestly I don't enjoy the books at all, I more-so enjoy the movies.  Though I always thought it was extremely immature of people just to wait in line to get the "first" book and read it all in one night and blab to other HP readers that were friends that had read it too.  I don't get the trend now a day with that book, it's long and boring... and I haven't even read to page 10 on the 1st book, much less cared about when the next one would come out. >>; Good entry, I just wish people weren't so fast pace now a day, things are more enjoyable if you just let yourself go at a normal pace then "I have to do something right now cause this is when it's first happening".

  • uh... u said u weren't going 2 write about harry potter but that's wat the whole thing was about. you talked about the demand for the book, the names, and you mentioned the movies. everything you wrote was related to harry potter.

  • another thing. i think it's pretty stupid to wait at the store just to be the first one to get something. wat's the point? you can't say "i was the first one to read it" bcause no one can really know who got it first.

  • =O Someone else is out there!

I just don't get it..The plot and everything. >.>; And I read pretty boring and complex book. Pahh.

In my CVS they are selling Harry Potter books. I find that pretty odd.

  • I've always loved the Harry Potter series. I started reading the first one when I was seven years old, finished it, bought the next three, and finished them all as well. From then on, I was hooked. Now I'm thirteen and I'm almost done with the last Harry Potter book. I guess I feel sorry for you because you don't enjoy the books as much as some people do. But oh well. Everybody's different.

  • i love hary potter ive seen all the movies and read all the books!

  • It's kind of ironic that you named your post "This Blog Entry is NOT About Harry Potter" when the whole thing was about Harry Potter.  Weird...

  • Some people have a fascination with the book, other people like to sit on the sidelines and laugh at how silly and stupid the Harry Potter lemmings are. Me, I'm somewheres in the middle, I point and laugh, yet secretly read the book in less than 24 hours.

    Tootles!

  • Most of those people who went and stood on line at midnight weren't there because they wanted to be the first person to get it. They were standing there because they genuinely wanted the book right then and there. I'm a fan of Harry Potter I can understand although I wasn't on the line but the story is just one that you have to read if you started with the series. It's hard to explain I guess its just one of those things where you have to have that certain personality or something I haven't a clue

  • haha, i walked into kmart yesterday to get a few neccessities, and the book happened to be there, so i happened to pick it up. though i have read harry since the beginning, im focused on more important things. i read the first paragraph of the last chapter, so i woudnt be freaking out about the possibility of him dying (i now know what happens). i can wait for the rest of the book, and now that i know whether or not he dies, i can actually ENJOY the book whilst i read.

that, however, wont happen till august second or third.

  • haha you know, this entry is kind of about harry potter, just not in the usual way

  • I do like Harry Potter, but I don't understand why people need to get it at midnight as opposed to noon the next day.

By the way, there are plenty of them floating around.  Even stores that don't normally sell books are stocking it.

  • I started reading the series when i was 11 and now i'm 18. the only reason i want to get the books right away is because everyone starts talking about them within 2 days of release and i hate to hear the important things and have bits ruined before i can read them and discover it on my own. i love harry potter and although the books are very famous, reading them over the years has been a highly personal affair that i'm sad to see resolve. these books have fascinated me. i'm sorry that it's all over, but i suppose any haters out there are happy. well it gave me something to enjoy in this life and made me happy which i am glad of:) thank you JKR for such an entertaining obsession that lasted so long.

  • target has so many books they're selling them at half price.

  • though I am a fan of HP and all it's not in me to wait in line at midnight for a book i mean dammit don't we have lives?

jk rowling must be real happy to know that she has lifeless fans. yay!

  • I started reading the series when i was 11 and now i'm 18. the only reason i want to get the books right away is because everyone starts talking about them within 2 days of release and i hate to hear the important things and have bits ruined before i can read them and discover it on my own. i love harry potter. it fascinates me. i'm sorry that it's all over, but i suppose any haters out there are happy. well it gave me something to enjoy in this life and made me happy which i am glad of:) thank you JKR for such an entertaining obsession that lasted so long.

  • oops didn't mean to post twice. sorry:)

  • I bet if I had commented saying I totally agreed with you,
you wouldn't have told me that I "didn't get it."

I guess it's impossible for you to believe that people can understand you and simply disagree.

  • I waited in line for it...not because I was worried I wouldn't get a copy...or because I wanted to be the first to get it out of some weird competitiveness...but because I like Harry Potter. I like the series, and I was very eager to find out what happened to him. I know you're going to say that's because I'm a loser or some thing like that and I guess you're right, but just because you don't understand what it's all about doesn't mean it's stupid or anything.
Few people wait in line because they're afraid it will sell out. It's not about that or about getting it first...it's about the excitement of counting down until midnight. And when the clock strikes twelve everybody cheers and it's just...fun. I don't know how else to put it.

Very few stores will have sold out of copies. Most retailers know how popular the book series is, and thus keep a good stock of it.

And to everybody who 'just doesn't understand what all the fuss is about', maybe you should try reading it. Admittedly the first two or three are very kiddy, but the story is catchy once you start reading it, and the last few are some of the darkest kids stories you'll ever read.

Have you noticed, by the way, that most of the people who are saying 'I don't understand' 'These people are nuts' 'Its just a book' have not actually read it? Just an observation...

  • Haha... I don't like it either... and all my friends are so buzy reading. I'm stuck doing nothing! Nice post... I agree with you

  • ugh, i never read the books. i tried once, but didnt get 50 pages in before i got bored and decided to do something useful with my time. but sadly, my mom and grandma get into the craze, and we got the book...at midnight. but hey, it was kinda fun watching all the stupid middle aged men with nothing better to do wearing white shirts, striped ties, and cloaks looking like total idiots!

wow, harry pencus!? thats just CRUEL!! thank god for your self-esteem and future sanity that u were a girl!! can u IMAGINE how bad you would hav ebee made fun of!?

  • I am a Harry Potter fan. I stood in line at Walmart at half past midnight (we stopped by Barnes and Noble, and decided we'd rather stand in a line than in a mob) and I stayed up past the crack of dawn to read it. But I didn't do it because I wanted to be 'special' or because it's a trend. I did it because I like the story and I was excited to read it. You people who are Harry Potter haters -- that's fine, you are more than entitled to an opinion. But I think your utter scorn for anyone who likes it is a little out of line. Can't we just enjoy it without being judged?

  • i knew how to pronounce hermione before the movies came out.
and i was one of those people standing in line waiting for the book. i think it's more that it's something we've wanted for so long, we want to be sure we'll be able to get it before spoilers reach us.

  • Sometimes I want to go at midnight so they everyone's like "YEAH HARRY POTTER!" And I can be like "No way man, I'm here for KURT VONNEGUT BITCHES!"

  • and just a completely random story, i dont know whether you care or not. but we were waiting in line at meijers and these two guys walked past us. they asked what we were waiting for and we told them harry potter. they immediately took out their camera phones and took pictures. they even told us that we should wave for the camera.

  • My xanga does not even have a hint of HP.  Adultery, Umbrellas, Women who get naked in your apartment..everything but ;)

  • To be fair, these Harry Potter fanatics (like myself) are in such a hurry to read the book because they're waiting for what's next. When people get into it, they get into it. Harry Potter is basically like a drug. Another reason people want to get the book is so they can start reading it and possibly finish it before your friends. Just like with movies, if you want to see it and you're friend has already seen it, you don't want them to tell you what happens or who dies in it. It's the same with Harry Potter, just apparently on a much larger scale.

  • i have been at the store at midnight for every single book starting with the second. it isn't because i have to be one of the first one to have it...its because the anticipation of finding out what is going to come next its like watching a really great movie...u don't want to just stop at the good part you want to see whats going to happen and how it all unfolds and waiting years for it just builds the anticipation.

  • contradicted yourself there a little ey?

  • You pretty much made my night :D
What an interesting blog to readdd. Thank you!

  • ironically, your entire entry was about harry potter, lol

  • You pretty much made my night :D
What an interesting blog to readdd. Thank you!

  • Congrats on first place. I think folks were tired of hearing about Harry Potter, and I was becoming afraid to read post, because they might spoil it for me, because YES, I got the book and I am planning to read it, but I am not in a big hurry.

Hope you are well... sending son to college is kicking my ass. I don't know where else to get money from, ugh!

    Hugs, Tricia

  • jeeez. let people enjoy it. i'm sure if you had posted about something you liked people wouldn't blog about it, tearing it down.
i was waiting in line at midnight. and loved the book. i'm a fan and i dont care.

oh, and dont bother stopping by my site. it's chock full of harry potter goodness! :]

  • OK yea I understand the wedding thing being weird but tha Harry Potter books and movies are great. J.K Rowling is a great author. Tha way she writes you cant help but it get sucked into the story. And for the people who are talking about the number of books..... of course there is a lot. They printed a first-print of 12 million copies for the U.S alone which is the highest a first print has EVER been.

  • i'm not worried about a book. if you ask me it's gotten redundant. i honestly hope he does die so all of this can end.

    either or. i don't give a shit.

  • This blog was all about the Harry Potter book, stupid.

  • You may not understand why we wait in line to get something, but why attack us for it? Personally I am a fan of J.K. Rowling and her Harry Potter series. It was a well-written, exciting set of escapades. You can't say you hate it if you've never read it. (That's targeted to all you anti-Harrys who never read a single sentence of the books.) Yes the first book is immature, but it's also from the perspective of an eleven year old. So we proceed, through Harry's life, until the last installment, when we look through his eyes, at seventeen, and find he has become a man. And yes, I stood in line at midnight to buy it. I read it avidly, and I cried in parts. Maybe you won't. Maybe you'll never read it. And I have to say you're missing out.

You don't understand. You don't have to. But you needn't judge us on it.

And by the way...I've seen plenty of bookstores still stocked up on the last book. And you're entire blog was about Harry Potter - both the book and the movie.

  • ahahah nice entry...
    the movie sucked!

  • I tried the Harry Potter thing when the first movie came out......I made 2 attempts to watch it through and through and both times I fell  a sleep .....so I havent bothered with part 2, 3, 4 ? or with the books either. I havent ran into one adult who said they liked the harry potter movies or books......maybe its a age thing?.....I am a big fan of the "rocky horror picture show."..I know every song and dance.......my kids just dont get it......whats to get, its just a fun musical.......so I guess that makes us even here at my household

  • I thought you weren't going to post about Harry Potter. You're complaining about the book, so that counts as a post about Harry Potter.

  • oh, but technically it IS about harry potter.

  • Don't worry - I'm waiting to get the book. It's totally not worth waiting that long in line.
Besides, if you give it like 3 months, the price will drop too.

  • I agree on the waiting in line thing, but there's also quite a bit I don't agree on.

I like the Harry Potter books, was really eager to find out what happened, and I found out when I finished reading it. I never went to a midnight party, but I probably finished the book a lot faster than most. I never felt better than anyone who finished the book after me.

Some of the names were unrealistic, but you also have to keep in mind that this is a FICTIONAL story, whereas most of the things stated in the book weren't real. The name Hermione could easily be pronounced if you broke it down. You could also type it into handy Google and find a lot out about the name if you were desperate to figure out how to pronounce it.

  • hey i no i feel the same way i mean come on one night it was ALL SOLD OUT and then back at target i was so surprised and i was like 17 $ whatever

  • The movies are good. the book? what a bore...i dont even bother to know the ending to it alll. =0 =)

  • haha. this kid at work who's only possible indication that i might be a HP fan is that he knows i like to READ (yes, folks, because apparently that's not a FAIRLY COMMON trait among people) walked up to me SUNDAY, looked straight at me and asked "so have you finished the new harry potter yet?"

    that's crazy.

  • haha - i have a friend that works at borders, and bought me a book with discount. The end price turned out to be around $23. Lo and behold, my aunt tells me HP7 is selling at Target for $18.

Truthfully, I only got the book to finish the collection. I don't plan on reading it any time soon, nor the other 2 I've yet to open (but still bought to finish the collection). Funny - I just like having them, you know, a part of pop culture.

HP has gone WAY out of hand, in a few short months, most likely HP will be replaced with something else.

  • oh and btw, i'm sorry for you that no one can understand your use of sarcasm. brainless people.
and ps to them, if this blogger wants to rant about how crazy people are about wanting to be first, then that's her right just as much as yours is to comment and tell her that you believe she's wrong. it's not immature, it's just her opinion.

  • have a tiff, why not?

  • HELLO~

    NICE TO MEET YOU~

  • Harry Potter in general is ridiculous...

  • hi , i am chris chu . i am hong kong person . if you have free time ,you can use english to go to my xanga to comment , thank you .

  • Actually...this post is about Harry Potter.  Most of--nope, all of it.  Here I was, expecting a post that wasn't about Harry Potter, and what do I get?  You guessed it, folks!  A post about Harry Potter.

Next time you title a post "This blog entry is NOT about Harry Potter," maybe you should...not write about Harry Potter.

  • this blog was sort of completely to do with harry potter.  i think you totally contradicted yourself!

  • It's just nice to have something to look forward to. If childhood does not have any excitement or apprehension, then what's there to look forward to? And adults who love Harry Potter get the same rush of having something to fixate over and obsess upon, something they can cherish. It might seem wrong to love a book series, but when it's as well written and all-around wonderful as Harry Potter, you can't help but grow attached to it as if it were an old friend of yours. I got my copy of the last book at midnight. I didn't do it just to be first, or brag about it, but to see what new stuff was happening in Harry's life, and how his life would turn out, and to bid farewell to what will now become a childhood memory. And a very pleasant one, at that.

  • THANK YOU for acknowledging that stupid human adiction to have things FIRST. I find it so stupid to wait outside some store for hours just to be the FIRST to read, see or play something. I'm going to wait until one of my friends finishes reading it, and then borrow the book from them and read it for SCOTCH FREE. i would like to mention btw that the book is going for about 45 dollars canadian for a hardcover and that was with 30 percent off and a Irewards card which gave an aditional 10 percent off. =)

  • Also, I think Hermione is a bit more common in the UK than it is in America. It's just like the name Siobhan. If you look at it, you'd think you have no idea how to say it, and you think who in the world would have that name? But it comes up a lot in England. Besides, what's wrong with a little variety in character names? Holden Caufield was pretty big fifty years ago, and he's still going strong today.

  • Yeah, I honestly haven't read a single Harry Potter book yet!  I'm in no hurry.  Life can wait....

  • #1--this blog wasn't about anything very important. #2--you said you weren't gonna talk about HP but did anyway. You make no sense.

  • You can't blame people who love reading fiction books. The HP books are definitely better than the movies. The books go into a lot of twisted details which allow you to use your own imagination. And that's the reason why fans get so hyped up about it. You wouldn't understand.

  • Haha...I love how the title says "This Blog Entry is NOT about Harry Potter" and yet the entire thing IS, in fact, about it....

  • Dude, didn't you kind of end up writing about it anyway? =P

  • odd how this blog is indirectly about harry potter and in a negative aspect then positive...making it still...about harry potter.

  • You do realize you spent this entire entry talking about Harry Potter, right? Just checking... Notice only FANS stand in line. It's not about winning, it's eagerness. We grew up with Harry. We love and appreciate the books. All the way to the end. You do not get it, because you don't try to see another perspective. You are, I am afraid, like all other ignorant people, and incredibly narrow-minded.

  • last friday....people at my school went crazy about it..

in every single of my class..one person would go..harry potter is coming out in xx hours... =.=!

im not a fan of it..so i don't care much abt it

hrm...going to get harry potter book on wedding night? o.O ...that's really weird

  • I couldn't get interested in harry potter....so, you won't find a thing about it on my site.

  • Honestly, it's a game of who can get the book finished before some other jerk ruins the ending for them.

And that's sad. I do read Harry potter, and to each his own, if you don't like it hey, fine by me, that's your preference, I'm sure you like stuff I don't, too. We're all different and inclined to different things...Why people would get all hot and bothered because you don't like Potter or I don't like sports or something else is beyond me.

But I had to tear through that book in 3 days not because I wanted to, but because I wanted to discover it on my own and not log onto sites I usually go to and witness them carelessly strewing info about the book all over. I avoided the internet for the most part, but really it's unfortunate that you have to close yourself off from others and other things you enjoy just because you want the right to not have the book spoiled for you. You'll notice it's been a race to post the ending first for the past 3 books...Wasn't like that for the first 4.

Just wanted to give you a different take on it. :)

    Take care!

  • LoL - this is the best Harry Potter entry I've read yet.  Thank you.  Thank you for making me laugh.    I do like the book...I haven't read them all, but I was pleasantly surprised when I read one.  I understand the fascination - I think she's a brilliant author.  But the obsession??  Yeah.  We all know that's crazy.

    Have a good night.

    -Em

PS - my site is HARRY POTTER FREE.

  • lol.. people are easily brain washed.. ^^

  • Technically,

You did talk about Harry Potter.
    Just in a different perspective.

    Either way, I totally agree.
    =]

  • chill out and let people who are excited be excited. perhaps you need something to look forward to in order to put it into perspective? you have to realize the harry potter fans have waited over a decade, in some cases, to find out how the story ends.

  • I heard enough about Harry, don't understand what's the big deal, it's a book, it don't have legs, won't go no where, why people are dying to read it and be the first....but yea.. it's craving... that i don't have for this crazy harry stuff.... :P

  • Hi,
I was just browsing sites when I came across yours. Anyway, have a great day.

  • why are you getting so worked up over harry potter? it's not like the books or the movies are dangerous. not that you've read any of the books, of course. If anything, you should be happy that the craze is practically over now that the book series have been finished.

  • wow, this is like the coolest place to meet wackos working up a sweat about how harry potter fans are 'brain washed'. why get all angry about it?

  • I LIKE HARRY POTTER. =P

  • In Malaysia its sold for Rm 109 thats like $30++. I don't really get the hype about these stuff. My parent are anti Harry Potter so i've never read it.

  • 留個cm在此......

  • Agreed. This Harry Potter psychosis is driving me insane. Two of my roommates waited up til midnight to get the book, then proceeded to spend the rest of the night and the next day up reading it.

  • of course it's not.

  • my exroommate was hooked into harry potter. and my hubby got one of his book, but i refused to let him tell me a THING about it. i cannot stand the name of harry potter. he is so freakin' annoying!!

and thing is? i never read the book. I failed successfully at first page. i couldnt get past it and just tossed the book right back at my exroommate's lap, walked away with scorn.it was horrible book.

  • oh come on.
if you're anti-harry potter sure be that way, but so what? ok, some people make a big deal out of it and u think so where's the big deal, i know, i was like that too, but people need some fantasy and thrill in their lives.

some people, unlike others, like to live the moment. the harry potter series is over, that's right, but millions of people enjoyed it and will keep on enjoying for MANY years to come, whatever you say.

this post, in my view, is utterly useless.

  • Hey,

Just to tell everyone this that every kids and teenagers and children at their own ages are definitely into Harry Potter things like their books, DVD, CDs, and maybe magazines and some other types of things that are part of  Harry Potter editions! the new Harry Potter book just came out on sale in every bookstore in the USA and they also even have those at the mall too! It just like came out on sale until July 21, 2007 on Saturday! I heard the new Harry Potter was the ninth book too and it is a great book ! I love Harry Potter books too!

  • yeah.....I hate Harry Potter as well. I've never liked him and never will. I sat down to watch HP & the goblet of fire.....I only saw half of it. It wasn't the worst movie....it just wasn't that interesting.
I'm sorry but I have to point this out....at the beginning of your post you said, "Yes, you read that right, I am NOT going to talk about Harry Potter, the book or the movie." but you continued to talk about it throughout the post.....kinda going completely what you say aren't you? I'm sure you didn't realize it or didn't mean to or you just did it on purpose....I don't know....anywho, Harry Potter.....don't really like him at all. Eragon.....love him. Why can't people go nuts about Eragon? (and why can't they make the movie like the book?)

    That's me.

  • I feel that I have to comment on this.

There is one good thing about all the hype. It means that kids are actually reading!

  • yeah i was being sarcastic ...

  • When you actually take the time to write a rant completely pulverizing something that lots of people enjoy,
that is an attack on it, and that's why I wrote "Live and let live"
In what way did I misunderstand this?

It's completely different to simply state that YOU dislike Harry Potter - I certainly don't have any interest in it - but it's COMPLETELY different to write stuff that personally attacks people who enjoy it,
or to attack the whole story itself.

"But to go to a bookstore on your wedding night, it's just crazy."
If those people wanted to go to the bookstore on their wedding night, who are you to say they're crazy? What SHOULD they have been doing, by YOUR standards?

I think maybe YOU misunderstand your own words, if you don't understand the power of dismissing what other people find entertaining or even important.

  • lol i know what you mean...I mean, the book is going to be there so you don't need to rush to get it...

  • Well done. You couldn't have said it better. I tried reading the first two books but to no avail. I think I could actually hear my brain cells screaming for mercy. Those books are the most poorly written fantasy books I have come across in a while. Never mind the fact that it's plot in general is wholly original to those LOTR knock offs you see everywhere but hey, at least they are written eloquently enough, with enough character growth and tiwsts in the plot. This one is fairly predictable from beginning to end. And the movies are just as bad. Thank goodness this is merely a fad.

  • PS: For everyone that thinks every pre-teen or teen out there LOVES Harry Potter, you are horribly wrong. I tried reading it when I was in the 8th grade and even THEN I thought it was a poorly written book. But that's what happens when you grow up in a family of literary and english majors....

  • PSS: I think it's funny that all these people who are getting up in arms about you "attacking" HP are pretty ridiculous. They have the nerve to call you close-minded?! Personally, I believe THEY are since they're stuck in their ignorant beliefs that THEY are the only ones right about this. Because if  you agreed with them and their sick obsession, then that makes you open minded? Makes no sense. If they even knew the actually definitions of what it means to be close or open minded.....Open minded doesn't mean you're accepting of other people behavior or beliefs (deranged or not). It means you haen't come to a decision about something. Silly overly emotional highschool kids. Personally, all those idiots standing in line dressed up in those costumes should be euthanized.

  • You do know you just posted about Harry Potter right?? It was your entire post! lol.. Whether it's good or bad everyone has something to say about it.

  • honestly, i didn't mind the damn books in the first place... am i going to wait in bloody line, hell no... i have MUCH better things to do with my time than stand in line for a damn book... now, i'm not married, but i'm pretty sure that on MY wedding night, my bride wouldn't wanna wait in line for a book... i'm sure we'd have more 'important' things to do...

  • Thank you so much for saying this. I am sick of it as well. I mean it is a book filled with things I would NEVER want my children to read or see. I have seen the movies and it is all about witchcraft. Not meaning to get religious, but honestly, HP is a book and it is fiction. And it is ENOUGH.

    TY TY TY TY

  • I thought you said you weren't going to talk about Harry Potter but your whole entry was about it. I understand your rant and all (and yes I was at my work at 12am getting the book). Some people are excited about it... obviously. And as for the people who went on their wedding night... maybe that's something they both wanted to do. Whether it be for publicity or for a common interest. You can't really knock it. I'm sure their is something you would want to do that other people would look at you like you were crazy.

Please don't get me wrong I am not sitting here talking down to you just trying to get a different view on it.

  • I don't like HP, too. It is the most stupid book in the 21st century. I hope it can disapear in this world.

  • I don't like HP, too. It is so stupid and uncommon sence. I hope that it can disapear in this world.

  • It is interesting to point out that when you say "I am not going to talk about something", you are actually contradicting yourself, coz you must mention that something when you say you are not going to talk about it.

  • I agree... HP's just a kid's book n some people are getting way out of hand just to get the series n watch the movies.  I heard Ratatouille had better sales than HP5 (HAH).
This whole HP gig is gonna eventually wear off -thank goodness the series is over.

  • Ugh, I believe this whole hype is utterly rediculous (but, I admit that I'm going to try to find a copy of the first.)

    ^_^ tadaa.

    (a heavy)
    stranger.

  • I am a Harry Potter fan, and I pre-ordered the book from amazon in February.  Yes, I know: sad.

Think of it this way, though.  Someone starts talking to you and saying "I saw your husband the other day somewhere he was NOT supposed to be with someone he was NOT supposed to be with.  They were..." and then just stops.  That's how it is with the Harry Potter series.  You're going "COME ON!  What's the rest?!"

I do agree about the game consoles/phones, etc, though.  Those can wait.

  • I'm not a harry potter fan.

  • Congratulations on the feature! I have been a subscriber for a while, and just wanted to say "yay you!".

I think the wedding night thing is definately pushing it...

    but....

I did buy the book over the weekend, and yes, i'm nearly finished with it... but I am an avid reader, and I do think Rowling is a great author. I had a hard time getting into the first few books, they were a touch too young for me, but the last few have been really fun to read. (and I'm 29 so, not reading them from the "kids book perspective") They so aren't my style! I'm into forensics, murder mystery and court room drama - and I'm an avid reader. I read like i'm never ever going to get my hands on another book again. I've found that a totally random book here and there is kinda fun to change the pace a bit - they are easy and quick reads dispite being 800 or so pages. As I said earlier, she is an awesome author, so why not?

  • Just wanted to say a little something about the first two books cause I noticed that some people have said something about how they tried reading those and couldn't get into them. There are a couple of things. First these were the first books by Rowling, so the writing is going to be a little rough around the edges. Second if you read beyond the first two it becomes apparent that the writing style takes a dramatic turn. I am trying to reread the first 6 books before I read the 7th just to refresh my memory and while I like all the books and a huge Harry Potter fan, even I am not too fond of the first two books because they are written in a more child-like fashion, but think about it at the time that was the audience Rowling was probably aiming for, kids. That is on their reading level. She has improved her writing concurrent with a certain age and it shows. As we have grown up so has the writing styles and the morals in the story. Sorry if this rubs anyone the wrong way, just wanted to point out that you can't really judge the whole series just by the first two books.

  • Harry s a stroybook for kids,i think.of cos i m not reading it,and never~

  • To say, "I don't get why people would wait in line for Harry Potter," and not question why we wait in line for things like iPhones, PS3, Xbox360, Titanic, and etc only tells me that you wonder why people aren't like you.

People have different likes and dislikes and each person likes/dislikes things to a different degree. I would never stand in line for 15 hours for an iPhone, but I did stand in line for 1 hour for the last Harry Potter book. I know I'll never understand how some people can shop for days at a time, and while I do get annoyed at them I know that we're just different.

Whether you're a fan of pop stars, athletes, electronics, books, movies, or etc, to put down another person for their likes and then question their sanity only shows the narrowminded of us all.

  • I'm super nerd, and I'd rather read the books then go see the movies. Anyone that had read the books knew how to pronounce Hermione more then a year before the first movie came out. HP & the Goblet of Fire came out July 8, 2000, and the movie HP & Sorcerers Stone came out November 16th, 2001.
Like I said, super nerd, and yeah, I had to search the dates, but I as I said, any fan knew how to say it prior to the movie.
Or anyone that was bored enough to search it online, or be in a production.
-Shrug- my elementary school did a short version of HP & the SS when I was in 5th grade. (I punched a girl in the face because she was the only thing standing between me and the part of Hermione.. I'm not proud of it, but I did it, and got that freaking part..lol)

As for waiting in line, I don't know WHY people would do that. I prefer sleep and ordering the book online a couple months prior to release. I only do that, though, to save some cash.. paid $15 each online, while my neighbor paid like $35 each in the store at midnight. -Shrug- crazy people.
    lol

  • I am a hugeeee Harry Potter fan, but even I do not understand the point in going to a book store to wait around and wait for it to come out. According to the other Harry Potter fanatics I am not a real fan because I am not willing to stand in a crowded room for 6 hours counting down the last minutes and seconds until its release.

  • Personally, I love it. But ya know, each to their own opinion...or rather, long nonsensical opinion/rant type thing.

  • I find the Harry Potter series facinating not because of the magic/occult aspect; no, my interest lies in how J.K. is able to keep a plot so tightly tied into itself. Writing a series this gigantic and keeping every clue, name and location in constant motion and awareness of the reader is an absolute feat of literature. I have no clue how she does it all, putting the slightest foreshadow on certain events so faintly that you have to question if it's even there at all...It helps me learn to do it for myself, develope my own brand, it you will. If nothing else, it's a help to any autor who needs a good example of well deveolped charaters, settings and plots.

  • *author

heh, this is why they have editors.....

  • I personally went to the party at 9pm to hang out with other Harry Potter fans, and be one of the first to get the book.
I'm sorry you don't understand how awesome that is for someone who enjoys it. It's a great thing to be standing there with other fans and have a countdown to midnight. Everyone's pumped and totally excited. It was a great experience.
It has nothing to do with "omg omg I HAVE to be first!"
It's simply the thrill of something you've been looking forward to. But really, there's no need to make fun of people who went and enjoy it.
OF COURSE we know it's fiction! That's what makes it so great.

  • I've read the first five books but not the last two. Only reason I read them in the first place was out of boredom. When I'm bored I read anything in reach. My sisters always leave books and stuff around, so I just happened to read those books. My sisters were wrapped up in the hoopla initially, but they grew out of it. I have no strong opinions on the series one way or the other. The only way I'll end up reading those last two books is if a copy is nearby and I have nothing better to do. Oh, and I consciously made a decision not to watch the movies. Music always interested me more than books or movies, anyway.

  • No offense to people who like Harry Potter and people who don't...(I happened to be one of the people who do! ^^) However...

Really, I think people need to stop obsessing over the book in general. I loved it--but it's not my life. And I know I CERTAINLY wouldn't go out to get it on my wedding night. XD That's ridiculous. Anyway...people who overreact to the series in both positive and negative lights are aggrivating. It's not that big of a deal--if you don't like Harry Potter, just ignore the rush. It may be annoying, but you don't have to complain about it and ruin the fun of people who are enjoying it.

I have a friend who used to love Harry Potter, and then adamently decided to stop reading them after Half-Blood Prince (she was a Draco Malfoy fan. For those of you who have read the books--enough said, right?). Honestly, I don't talk about Harry Potter around her, unless she asks what I'm doing and I'll be honest with her. If I say, "Oh, my familys watching Harry Potter." she'll go off onto an endless rant about how much she hates it etc. and it will leave her in a fowl mood the remainder of the night. It also makes me sad and uncomfortable, and leaves me trying to rapidly change the subject to alter the awkward mood I had never intended to come about anyway.

Some people at my church have another negative reaction to the books that gets on my nerves--saying they're demonic, satanic, etc. whatever else you want to call them. They're fiction, and fiction is fiction. I suppose the controversy just gets on my nerves. There are people who like it and people who don't. No one needs to get furious about it.

In a completely different light, people who TOTALLY obsess over the book itself annoy me. Of course--I want to discuss who died and who lived, and why things happened. But there is a limit to that too.

Was there ever this kinda controversy over another phenomenon like...Star Wars? Not that I know of. It's a different type of cultural icon. Where as you could safely walk up to pretty much anyone and ask them if they like Star Wars, walking up to anyone and asking if they liked Harry Potter is opening an entirely new, and often tricky, can of worms.

Anyway--there's my thoughts. *heh* Good to see two sides of the Harry Potter craze--thanks! :)

  • YAY! I hope harry potter rots in he11!

  • My friend dragged me to the Harry Potter thing at Barnes and Noble that night. But, it all paid off, I got to sleep over at her house. :]

  • Actually, this post was about Harry Potter. It was just about how much you don't like it instead of how much you do.

The topic, nonetheless, was still Harry Potter.

  • You know, contradictory to your opening sentence, you did talk a bit about Harry Potter, thus contributing to the fame of something you see as the devil.

  • Heh, I signed into my age-old xanga account just to say this.  Harry Potter is a good series but it can get a little annoying.  I went to a HP Launch party because my Cousin and her friend wanted to go, Her friend stood in line and paid 36 dollars to get one at midnight, then I went to Target the next day and they were priced at 20$  with about 20 books sitting there.  Of course why would anyone buy them?  they already had their expensive copies.

  • and unknowingly you have talked about the Potter boy

  • HARRY POTTER IS THE BEST.

SCREW EVERYONE ELSE WHO DOESNT THINK SO.

    YOU DONT KNOW REAL FICTION.
    [:

  • and unknowingly you have talked about the Potter boy

  • Hey guys my friend Luke just lost his mother and he's going through alot and it would mean alot if the xanga community pulled together to help him so go to xanga.com/lukeipher55 and tell him how much you care.

P.S. I'm posting this on your page because you're on the front page and alot of people will read this.
And he writes a lot of non- HP entries

  • I really dont understand the hoopla either. I mean I read the books, but I'm sure as hell not going to wait in line for hours on end just to buy one. I know the borders near my house had a Harry Potter midnight party for the book. Whats the point?

  • you say this post wasn't about harry potter, but the harry potter book and how it affects people is all you talked about....so actually, it IS a harry potter entry ;-p

  • i'm disappointed, this post mentioned Harry Potter a lot.

  • For saying you weren't going to talk about Harry Potter in this entry there was certainly a whole lot about Harry Potter... in fact, thats all you talked about. Just because it wasnt about the book or movie itself, you still talked about Harry Potter related things....

Just an observance...I wonder if anyone else noticed?

  • I'd just like to point out that while you said you will not be discussing the Harry Potter book or the movie in the first line of your entry, that is exactly what you did talk about.  Secondly, have you ever read the Harry Potter books?  I think I know what the answer is... (no).  So before you go passing judgements like "Harry Potter is the devil", I suggest you read through all the books.. yes, ALL of them.  And once you have, you'll have the right to make such judgements.

It's no surprise to me that the people who agree with you are those have not attempted to read the books.. whether out of pure laziness or so-called rebellion against society.  For those of you who claim that you watched the movies and don't understand the Harry craze... please know that the movies are crap and do not come close to doing the books justice.

  • people freaked out about getting it at midnight because they wanted to finish it before the assholes who saw the ending online told them

  • haha you caught me!

    nice page!

  • Harry Potter Mania is so retarded!!!!!!!!!! I can't stand the people who run arround in their little wizard costumes and scream freaky mumbo-jumbo to try to make a broom fly...no, serisoually, I saw some kid trying that in his front yard...do people realize there's life after Harry Potter? Since when did a series have such an impact on society?

    Miss Monique

  • i'm not a harry potter fan either. i tried to read the first book to see what the fuss was about. i lost interest when he went to get the school supplies. it was pretty sad how one whole chapter is about shopping.

  • Obviously people who don't read it care enough to post stuff on xanga, along with people who do read. You aren't a rebel for not reading or liking it, sorry.

  • True true, I did misread that part. But you still did talk about Harry Potter in your post; my smartass-ness had to say it. I'm not disagreeing with you, the books aren't that incredible as to merit buying one on wedding night. No hard feelings? ^^

  • It's not just that we like being the first to get everything, but also the fact that everyone comes together for something they really like and it's just kind of exciting.

And, I don't really think the store clerks would be angry if you asked; in fact, I highly doubt they would.

  • i like how the title is "this blog entry is not about harry potter" but the entire thing is about it...i think your as obsessed with hating harry potter as some people are with liking it haha

  • Just pointing out that there IS someone named Hermione in real life. Well, was. Hermione Gingold. She was in the 1962 film The Music Man. Just saying...

  • your whole post actually WAS about harry potter.

  • i love harry potter, but yes seriously...things are way pout of hand for this book..its cool for a while...but not like two weeks before the book comes out....i live in JK rowluings home town and I was shocked...everything was about her and harry and yes it gets qhuite annoying...

  • Maybe that couple in Oregon met at a midnight-release party for one of the previous Harry Potter books, and they thought this was the perfect way for their marriage to start.

  • I'm actually into a lot of books, and never in my life picked up to read Harry Potter books. I thought some of the movies are rather 'okay' not all that great. Haven't watched the last one.

  • Um... but this entry WAS about Harry Potter.

  • What IS the big deal?  I mean, it's just NOT that interesting.

  • amen to that!!!

well, just to let you know, you're not alone.. i don't have the book yet either..

thank you for providing highly entertaining reading material about somthing other than harry potter.........

  • don't be depressed about it. i am a fan of the series (but harry potter is a bit too... heroic for my liking) but i don't get the book when it comes out. i'm one of those people who read it months/1year later when its available at the library.

  • see...  i've already read it.

    BUT!

i did not wait in line for its release. in fact, i just got I happened to walk past it at Target the day after it came out. And it was on sale. so hey, why not?

  • Thank you for the good laugh. Great post.

    Very best, :)

  • actually, this entry is entirely about harry potter.

  • actually, this entry is entirely about harry potter.

  • i get a kick out of not jumping on the bandwagon...i might pick up a harry potter book 5 years from now

  • For me it wasn't about getting it first, it was about being excited to read what happens next. There is a few years delay in between books so everyone gets excited.

However I didn't go at midnight to get the book, I pre-ordered it on amazon.com in February so I had it mailed to me on the 21st. ^^

  • actually, your blog kinda IS about Harry Potter

    aahahahaha. =P

  • actually, this blog kinda IS about Harry Potter...

    ahahahah =P

  • You must be pretty stupid to think that's the only reason people get it on the first day.

The reason is because on the first day,
    IT COSTS LESS.
Yeah, I bet you never thought of that because you're a complete idiot.
I don't care how old you are.
And if you are an adult,
then you must be a real idiot not to think of that.

  • Actually, your entire post is about Harry Potter.

  • I mean, I've read all the books, but...I'm not crazy enough to waste my time posting an entry about being exited about the book coming out. Unfortunately, most people don't have that range of common sense. The night the final book came out, at the stroke of midnight...I was sitting happily on my couch, dozing. NOT waiting in line as if they were going to run out of the book. Honestly! It's midnight! What's a few hours difference going to make. Yup, I got my sleep, woke up nice and refreshed the next day, and THEN, went and picked up my copy...and frankly, the final book wasn't even that great.

  • Why do some people in the real world have weird names and some people have normal names?

    That's irritating.

  • I dont understand how this isnt about harry potter...

  • now the book here is out of stock but some bookstore still selling them. The price will be different as will cost slightly higher than those hypermarket selling price.

  • Well, we still have books in Wyoming, but, uh, I doubt we have enough of a population to sell out a super Wal*Mart of their literary stash.  But seriously, hear hear!  I get liking a book, liking a series, and liking a media phenomenon, but when I saw one of my professors dressed in a purple wig and a black choir robe, I was mildly disturbed.  The craze has gone far too far.  Glad to hear I'm not the only one who hasn't ridden the hype to the moon and back.  I'll be chilling in Laramie for the rest of the Summer, reading House of Leaves, and waiting patiently for the paperback copy to come out in a year.  ^-~

  • Harry Potter addicts are no worse than the people who rush to comment on this.  It's a very ordinary blog and I have no idea why I'm adding my 2 cents here to something that is...not all that well written...sorry.

Harry Potter fanaticism is due to nothing more than hype.  Not really as well written as Tolkein or Lewis.

  • Harry Potter was better when it wasn't all hyped up about and it wasn't something so cliche and popular. Now it seems so...mainstreem and I don't have the mind to really be exited about it. I am going to read the seventh book, dispite my disdain for things that are too popular. Perhaps thats why my interests lie in Forensic Anthropology (only 50 Anthropologist in the United States!) and Kathy Reichs. No one knows about things like that, so I like it. Actors too...I can't stand Orlando Bloom or Lindsey Lohan. I like David Boreanaz and Jason-Gray Stanford. It'll be a lot harder to find a Stanford fan than a Depp fan. I guess I like the sense of uniqueness that being original and liking things no one else even knows brings. Harry Potter was good when no one was obsessed about it. Nicely writen and good plot when it began. Now it just seems like an overpublicly reknown and cliche mass of teenage girls squeling over Daniel Radcliff or Tom Felton. Do you know how annoying it is to be somewhere with a friend and being forced to listen to her talk about how cute Rupert what-ever-his-last-name-is, and then try and talk about the incredebly sweet and talented Jason Gray Stanford and her only responce is, 'Who?'

J.K Rowling is a very, very good author and I hope she writes another series...but sometimes I wish someone would read a Dean Koontz, Stephen King, or Thomas Harris book. The Silence of the Lambs - popular movie, and for a good reason, I don't know anyone who's read the book though. It's brilliant, and I think Harry Potter should share the limelight. In all, it's not something to get all obsessed over.

I suggest picking up a Kathy Reichs book. Not the point, but she's a very good author and she's also an experienced Forensic Scientist. Better yet, she takes the experiences and writes them down, making incredable books.

Sorry for taking up all this space, but I had to write it down or I would explode, and don't bother to comment back since this isn't my personal site...and everyone with a brain would be suprised at what I use it for...

  • well, i read the series and plan to buy the book... when the paperback is out. i don't mind waiting. but i understand what you mean by not getting why people have to queue to be the first to get something... me neither... why waste my time queueing and waiting when i could be doing other more productive things.

  • Well, on that note, Mae, only liking things because not many people like them is just as ridiculous as people clamouring because something is popular.  Why don't people just like what they like anymore?  Why does something have to be indie, or in the now, or the next big thing?  I liked the books because I enjoyed reading them, not because they weren't or are popular.

  • Never read a HP book, or watched a HP movie, and proud of it. :) Though that somehow makes me a social outcast because all my friends read HP and I don't (just joking about the social outcast part).

  • Harry Potter was written for the exact same reason ANY story is written. In fact, it was written for the exact same reason you sat down at your desk to write this blog.

Rowling had a story to tell, a point to get across, and she wanted others to hear. The thing about Harry Potter is that it gives a release from the outside world. We are entrapped and enchanted into another realm, a realm with no family problems, no confusion, no economic troubles. For a brief moment in time, we can be somewhere else- doing anything else - than our daily grind.

I think it is impressive that someone can write a story that captivates the masses. Who else do you know that has the power to write a story that millions of people will read and love?

The ignorance of your entry really appalls me. I know that there are people who do not like the book, or the movies. But to never have read the series, to never have allowed yourself to soak into a world beyond your control...it's too hypocritcal for you to post.

  • isn't it ironic that your post is actually about nothing BUT harry potter?

  • haha.. it is true that in our society we have to be the first ones to do this or buy that.. it is stupid.. yet we still do it all the time..haha

  • This wasn't exactly a non-harry potter entry.

First of all, I love harry potter and I'm sorry you don't see what's so great about it. It's pure creativity and has done a great thing in getting more people to read books. I'd so much rather see people lined up for a book than for an xbox.

Second, I work at barnes and noble, and I saw that thing about the couple going to get the book after their wedding... yeah... I thought it was pretty ridiculous too. Some work colleagues and myself sat there and laughed at them... that's definitely what I would want to do on my wedding night... who the hell has sex anymore.

Third, the book stores aren't sold out. They were smart enough to order enough copies of the book to hold them over for a long time.

  • Feel so sad,I love HP.

  • I have never read a Harry Potter Book nor do I intend to.  Sorry world- it just ain't happening.

I have seen the movies- if only for boredom when I can't find the movie I really want to see at the rental place.

I didn't see it in the comments here- but did you know some kid actually committed suicide because the series is over... and he has lost all his "friends"?

    How stupid is that?

And millions of children are seeing psychologists because a book series is ended..... dear god... this is bad and it's all over a book.

C'mon people.  Get over it.  It's fiction.

  • Look Harry just got you featured on Xanga ;)

  • I admire your sense of direction against he fad *hi-fives*  I like the book as something to read when I get depressed but.....come on. I can kind of understand what's going on with kids. It's a fad...fads get them excited so they could fit in...but trust me....it's not going to last after the final movie comes out. They'll probably go back to obssesing over music stars in no time (not like that's anything better...but at least they're real...)As for adults....they probably just want to live a second-childhood. Anyway...a big tumbs up on this blog ^^

  • Hmm... Wait in line for new stuff. Bah, I'd rather wait till the price goes down somewhat and then buy it.

As for the Harry Potter books... I'd much rather read it when all the fuss dies down and there are available copies in the library. It's much, much easier than wasting tons of money on a book you'll only  read once and probably will not enjoy.

  • this is htsht2006 do you want to be my friend

                                            love

                                          omeey

  • I was just wonderin' if I would get the same "pee in my pants" sensation if I commented LAST!!!  Never got into HP and I'm not sure there would be anything out there that I would stand in line for at midnight - might miss my "beauty" sleep!  You DO need to thank God that you were a girl - that would have been a tough one to live through!

  • yay me! i already got the book , i went to one of those midnight parties type things and bought the book, its very good...but im not gonna spill anything, it bugs me how ppl try to spoil it for other ppl ... ohwell...i got the book

  • yay...lucky me i awredy got the book so im good...i went to those midnight harry potter parties and bought the book ...but i wont spill anything it makes me mad when ppl tell u wut is all goin on in the book that is the whole point of buyin  the book ....to read it! and find out ur self...oh welll

  • maybe they are getting each other a book to remember their wedding day, since the book comes out that day too. It can be view as silly, crazy, or romantic.

  • you said you werent going to talk about HP, book or movie, but you just mentioned his name 6 times (counting the title) and also mentioned the book 7 times (if i only count the actual word "book" in my list) and the movie was mentioned twice. whats with that? honestly, i think this post was a publicity stunt, and not a very good one. i am in agreement that the HP fanatics are insane and need a bit of enlightenment into the real world, but i found this post to be disappointing. i was expecting something more...well, just more. if you find this offensive, i am sorry, but i just figured that my opinion is as valid as yours.

ps. i flogging hate Harry Potter, but my husband loves the movies, so i know the deal on both sides of the fence.

  • Personally, I love harry potter. I ordered it a month in advance. Its actually a really great series..you just have to take the time, sit down and read it!

  • What happened to not talking about the book or the movie? Are you like an HP zombie or something? What a liar you are!

  • i agree. this whole thing is ridonculous. I'm in summer college and there were 3 or 4 girls who stayed up the WHOLE night finishing it before a big test. Now, let's put our ducks in a row, here.

    please.

  • say whatever you want....if it gets kids to read, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

  • This was SO a Harry Potter post. PUAHA. & Yeah, I like Harry Potter - have yet to get the book. I`m borrowing it from someone. Yeahhhhhh. But it`s true. Pop Culture these days.. The book isn`t going anywhere.

  • hillarious =X

i have it on a PDF file.

  • I got it because I knew it would be spoiled by someone if I didn't get it that first night.  That, more than anything, drove me to go out at midnight to get it.  Not about being first (although I ended up being first to finish it, amongst my friends...haha), but about being surprised.

And because it was more interesting to do than to sit in my bedroom and study biology.

  • I don't understand.. You said you weren't going to talk about the book or the movie, but you sat there and typed a big story about how you think it's stupid that people obsess over Harry Potter.

    Make up your mind.

And it just so happens that I am a fan of the HP books not the movies because the movies aren't very accurate. Maybe except for the first two, but after Richard Harris died and they started flip flopping directors, they have just gone down the tube. I respect your opinion for not liking Harry Potter in general. However, if you really didn't care about him, then you wouldn't write a whole xanga entry about how ridiculous everyone is acting. Why do you care about what other people do? Why do you care that J.K. Rowling uses uncommon names? Yeah, you're just voicing your opinion, go right ahead, whatever. But if you're really getting irritated about this whole thing, then you have no life.

And guess what? I have an opinion too.

  • im a huge fan of HP
&& we relieze the book isnt going anywhere.
    we're not stupid.

We go there for the atmosphere.
    Its something we love

    somethingwe're excited for.

Just because your puzzeled by the fact doesnt make it toabo.

Sooo;; im not only disgruntle about the fact that your so weired out by HP
but its just something people like?
Just like there are other groups out there.

if you dont understand the magic in it doesnt mean its so odd.

ofcolurse i re[spect your whole opion
    but thats mineeeeee.

  • You are my idol.

  • Reality isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd much rather enjoy a well written fiction, than sludge through a hodge podge of people not even knowing what they are saying and expecting you to understand it. At least the characters in a book can talk without confusing the living daylights out of you. Even the "stupid" people in a book have more linguistic ability than the average person off the streets of 'real life'.
That said, I've only read one of the HP books.

  • This intire post was about Harry Potter, so you failed. This is  about the fourth blog I have read slamming Harry Potter, you either like it or you don't, I don't quite get why this or any of the others are featured blogs oh well, to each his own I guess. Also waiting in line and being the first to read/see/play stuff is half of the thrill, you just have to do it, then you'll understand WHY people do it. And the reason no store sold out is that it was planned that way! They overstocked so that they wouldn't sell out!

  • I love the blunt energy.

    you're hilarious, I needed that.

I haven't read any of the books, even though all my friends are absolutely psycho about it and even my boyfriend swears that the author [forgot her name] has pretty good writing skill even if the story blows.

I watched the movie while my friend was commenting on every little thing that happened.

I guess I managed not to be sucked into that craze.

  • I'm not sure if you were going for the whole sarcasm thing by saying, "This blog is not about the Harry Potter book" but wasn't the whole premise of your blog downplaying said subject. In affect being completely about Harry Potter.

  • Ah, the wonders of people. Although many of the people leaving comments admit they have no interest in Harry Potter, if any of you were to pick up the book and actually get into it, you'd realize the irony of it all. You say you don't like the movies and thus, you won't touch the books, but what you fail to realize is that well-written books usually have the effect of letting people live their stories, and JK Rowling is a master at painting visual images with words.

I myself am an avid reader of her Harry Potter books and yet the movies have yet to satisfy me. But then again, the originals are usually better anyways. As for standing in line for hours, perhaps some of the people in line were in fact wanting badly to read the rest of the epic of Harry Potter, rather than think themselves better than the people who would later get it. And maybe, just maybe, the bride and groom bought the book as a small wedding present to the other, to be read after the honeymoon. Why does it matter that they bought it anyways? They're no different than the other hundreds of people that stood in line for hours. Think about it before you critisize.

  • hermione's actually a very popular name in the UK, it's orginaly a French name though. Live and learn.

  • Hermione is actually a very popular name in the UK, but it's originally a French name pronounced Air-moyn. But then of course things change in different countries and in England it became Her-my-own-ee. There ya go, live and learn. And then accept that everyone has their own interests and we aren't all sheep.

  • I've always wanted to wait overnight for a game system, and when the Wii came out, I finally got that chance. I don't know why I wanted to, but I did, and I can't wait to do it again. Hanging out with a bunch of nerdy guys I've never seen before, talkin about nerdy stuff for a solid 14 hours....It was awesome. Really fun. I'm sure the same fun is in waiting for a Harry Pothead book, but that's not my thing. Just a thought, ~Josh

  • I thought you said you werent going to write about harry potter.. In a way.. you kinda did.

    Just saying.

  • I'm no Harry Potter fan.  I don't dislike the books/movies or anything.  I'm in just no rush to read/watch them.  In fact, I'll prolly never read the books since I generally dislike reading books.  I've read a few books and enjoyed them.  It's just not my thing though.

Why does society have to be first?  People will go out at midnight to pick up there book they have reserved or pick up a game console that has launched.  Yeah, it's true the product will always be there or eventually return.  But, you're missing out on the crowd that enjoys the same thing you do.

You're being united with people of the same interests.  It brings different people together.  Whether they be young or old, different religions, etc.  It's exciting and you get to interact with new people... and it's still fun even though you may never see them again.

I wasn't going to comment until you mentioned waiting in the cold for a game console.  That would be me if I had to.  I would've waited 12 hours in the cold with my friends for a Wii.  Fortunately, I had mine reserved at launch so it was an easy process.

  • i dun like Harry

  • Harry Potter... finished that sucker in one sitting last Sunday

  • that is so funny! your blog made me laugh..i don't understand the love for harry potter either...but whatever!!

  • These comments are interesting. I've never heard anyone come down on the excitement of imagination and story-telling before. It's pretty wacky. Someone up there wrote "It's a bloody STORY." Yeah, and your point? That would obviously be the reason people would want to read it. Also it's the last one in the series. The laaaast one. You're not completely unfamiliar with what happened when book 6 came out, right. A group of college boys went around to all the lines at the bookstores telling them the ending of the book. So obviously people are going to want to obtain and read the book before anyone has the chance to ruin it for them. That's your "obsession with being first" explanation. Its sad a person would not read Harry Potter because they think it's a "kid's book." I think you can officially call yourself "old" now. Old and futtered. Tarnation, them youngins ARE puzzlin aren't they. How can people get JOY out of things?? Seriously. What's up with that??
Someone also wrote, "I like reality better." I feel very sorry for you. Someone who has never been lost in the world inside a book. I truly feel sorry for you.
Isn't this kind of like coming down on fans of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc? Epic tales give people something amazing and special. Look how many people identify with Harry. Why put it down? What do you get out of that? Does it make you feel better for not being included to trash someone else's interests? I think if you were to actually pick up the book and read it, you might find that reading is actually extremely enjoyable.

  • Yo!

I have never read Harry Potter, never seen the movies (okay i saw two minutes of the second one when my cousin turned it on at a family reunion) and dont plan to. i mean, tolkien and lewis are SOOO much better!!! GO HOBBITS!!!

but yaeh, i dont get the hype either. i think its a 'my friends are into it so i wont be cool if im not' mindset, but that just a guess, lol.

    peace!

  • Oh thank God--- someone who also hasn't read the book. I've read the first six, but realized around the fourth that Harry Potter really isn't for me. And yet, I kept reading with the notion that if I didn't, I'd be the only one in the world.
But you know, I haven't seen a single store sold out of Harry Potter books. In fact, I've seen my local bookstores already offering them 40% of. Perhaps more people adopted your attitude of not rushing out to buy the book as fast as they possibly can.

  • Um... I hate to break it to ya, but ranting against Harry Potter and its fans is still talking about Harry Potter..

  • I don't think that Harry Potter is the devil but I still don't care about the books or the movies. Just another thing we choose to waste our time on.

  • jeez, that is hilarious!!! a couple on their wedding off to get the latest harry potter book, how romantice. seriously, i'm a big fan, but you will never find me waiting at barnes and nobles for an hour at midnight! gosh, these people should calm down a bit...

  • Yea that's soooo not about harry potter.

I don't understand people whot hink they have to be first either. I rant about that so f.kn much. Don't people realize that the price goes down after a few months? shit what's wrong with waiting to get the new iphone which is like 500 dollars? jeez it'll go down when people find that they have bugs just like EVERYTHIGN else.

Remember when the razor came out? how expensive they were? Now the general price for one is what? $50? Because they suck?

    -mick

  • i almost laughed out loud in my class reading this.

  • heya geeks

  • I read the book when I was younger, I still read them now, but I'm not obsessed. One of my friends waited in line at Borders (in a town about an hour away) dressed up as a witch. She waited for 6 hours. Then she got the book and read the last two chapters. I think that's almost worse than going to get the book on your wedding night.

  • As if you're reading comments by now, but Hermione is actually the name of a character from Shakespear's "A Winter's Tale." Books are wonderful because the characters are so life like. JK Rowling is a genius. And the mad rush to get them is because it's the last one! Anyone who picked up a book would realize it's like watching a TV where you have to figure out what happens next!

  • im sorry to say but your blog was about harry potter. :]

  • Ha, people wait in line because they think that "first come, first serve" philosophy is relevent in every single aspect of life, even in books that they probably won't read that night anyway.

    Welcome to America.

plz give me a 10! i really really really want to b a part of teh clique movie

  • "This Blog Entry Is NOT about Harry Potter."

    I dissent.

  • I think it's really funny that you titled your blog entry, "This Blog Entry is NOT about Harry Potter", and yet the entire entry was stupid people were who got the harry potter book early, and harry potter this and harry potter that...kind of a contradiction...

i agree with you though...i'm still only on the fifth one, and i'm going to wait however long it is for my library's copy to be free. there's like a billion holds on it already...haha.

  • Did you actually read all 400+ comments? LMAO ... I should have blogged about the Potter Mania last week I guess

  • I think the bookstores make sure to order so many copies that they do not run out.

Hermione is the name of a character in a Shakespeare play, I think, and that's where the author got the name from.  The books are Rowling's and she can name the characters whatever she wants.  Personally, I always liked her name, but I also found out I was pronouncing it incorrectly during book four.

If a couple wants to go get Harry Potter on their wedding night, it's their business.  Why are you upset about it?

I am a Harry Potter fan.  I have nothing against anyone who doesn't like Harry Potter.  We've all got our own tastes, and I'm sure there are books you like that I don't like.

There are lots of people who stand in line to buy Yankees tickets, the newest cd by their favorite singer, video games, etc.  It's nice for someone like me, who loves reading, to see that a book is becoming just as famous as other forms of entertainment.

    Well, that's my two cents.

  • Ear is the little side of the heaven and earth. If you wear the right jewellery, it can make your entire face luster to be enlarged. First to estimate what kind of links of London earrings suit your face when choose. For example of me, my face is a little round, so those long earrings are not good looking on me. I like small and delicate links of london jewellery I don’t ask for style, but the color should be better. I have black, white, red, green, yellow and transparent diamond earrings. For those whose face is better, the choice is much more.
The style of earrings and necklace should match with the color. So that the triangle that above the neck be embraced.
Friends always said that I have many links of london and they are all beautiful. In fact, I just do that. Almost everyday’s jewellery with on repeat. But also remember according to the dress to choose the style and color.
