  • Presbyterian's, Dental Music, and haters not necessarily in that order

    Jennie ( who has updated by the way ), called me earlier.  She said she was going to be a Presbyterian.  At least that's what I heard. What she really said was she is going to be Pescotarian, which is a vegetarian who eats fish.  Let me preface what I am about to say, I have nothing against Presbyterians.  Some of my best friends are Presbyterians.  But I'm sorry, Jennie is Jewish.  I would like Jennie to stay Jewish.  Just as I am sure a Presbyterian mom would not be happy to hear that her child, who is in South Africa, was going to be Jewish, I was not really happy to hear Jennie was going to be Presbyterian.  Plus, we spent a small fortune on her Bat Mitzvah.  Maybe not as much as other members of the Jewish tribe, but in relative terms, it was a lot.  And Jennie is the most Jewish out of all of us ( including extended family.) She actually enjoys going to Temple!  So imagine my shock when she said she was going to be Presbyterian.  Going to church every Sunday with her families in SA is one thing, denouncing her Judaism is another.  If she does not want to eat cows and pigs, that's fine with me, but oie vey and nixay on the conversion thing.

    Did anyone else see 20/20 on Friday?  I taped it, and just watched it.  There was the most disgusting segment about the those Haters who belong to that so called Fred Phelps " Church" where they picket dead soldiers funerals.  it was so scary.  If you want to be scared and missed it watch this clip.

    Not only that they are unoriginal with their songs and can't even make up their own tunes.
    In all seriousness, we need to be aware there are people like this in the world.

    Yesterday I went to the dentist.  They no longer play mellow elevator music, they play late 70's early 80's music.  This stresses me out, as those were NOT relaxing years for me.  I think they should take that into account when choosing the music.

    I like Journey is much as anyone, but not when I am laying in the dentists chair.

  • Damn, I just watched that video and I'm speechless. That is sick. Those people are so hateful it's ridiculous.

  • I didn't see the show so I just watched the video. I am sick to my stomach. There is no reasoning with people who are as mentally twisted as that.

  • I remember my daughter telling our Catholic pirest that she was a batholic....I wanted to crawl under the chair...I guess her daddy had told her that is what she is since I am catholic & he is Baptist....LOL...

  • There aren't words bad enough to describe Fred Phelps and his ilk.  I am ashamed they come from Kansas, and hope people don't think all Kansans are like him!  He is a sick, sick, person, as is anyone who follows him.

  • It was a circus side show, until they filmed the little kids.  Then it was scary and sad.  Still, the best way to shut up the Phelps is for the big networks to ignore them.

  • hatred is taught & history is doomed to repeat itself -- those kids don't even understand what it's about -- very scary... ugh -- dentist office -- neither the music nor the silly pictures on the ceiling reduce stress... wow! that is color coordinated!

  • My daughter is dating a Mormon.....not a Moron, though at times I wonder....and I often wonder if she would convert, so I can understand your feelings. 

    Now see...that is just another reason why I can never go to prison...I look AWFUL in orange....not a very complimentary color for my skin tone!!  :ssoh:   Nice to see smiley's coming in LARGE PRINT these days for us old farts who can't see anymore!!  :ssgrin:

  • I feel so sorry for those little kids...being programmed like robots. They have no clue what is coming out of their mouths.

  • Their 'church' doesn't just toment those at funerals, they've been picketing all other churches too.  My mother in law's catholic church in Topeka was picketed because of the national pediaphile issues. Those people  got right in her face (little 75 year old woman) and yelled garbage at her. Isn't their laws about harassment?

    I'm gad you shared video, I've never seen them in action. Its awful.

    Yes, that is a frightening video. Sick and repulsive. Won't they be surprised when they are toasting marshmallows in Hell someday.

    And I couldn't watch the whole video... it made me think violent, murderous thoughts towards those people... I would love to see their faces when they stand judgement... although I'm hoping I won't be near THAT gate.... I really don't like extreme heat.

  • I'd be pretty freaked out about the whole thing, really!  But whew - being a vegetarian is much better!

  • He matches the food he's harvesting. I would have the same reaction to the conversion thing - my daughter for some reason always makes good friends (or dates) Mormons, and while I don't have anything personal against them, I don't want my daughter becoming one.

    Of course, I don't want her converting from a carnivore to a non-meat eater etither. Just becuase she tried that once and it doubled my work load in the kitchen -bah. Besides, she makes a lousy vegeterian as she doesn't like vegetables.

  • I can see where you'd get Presbyterian from pescotarian. Too Funny!!! LMAO.....  If the Westboro Freaks weren't so comtemptable, they'd be laughable.  They obviously have to be prolific at procreating to keep enough people brainwashed to their beliefs.  Their poor children don't have a chance.  They are definitely a scary lot, thank God for the Patriot Guard Riders that block them from military funerals when invited to be there by the soldiers families.  At least that's one venue they have less access to.

  • Fred Phelps is a disgrace to the human race.  Most of his "church" members are members of his family.  And to think he spews his venom using the name of God.  I've tried to "judge not" but it's difficult where such hatred is concerned.

  • It's amazing how some ppl completely distort God's word, and then....make it a mockery.  I am appalled and disgusted by the media attention these folks are getting, it just perpetuates their cause.  Yuk!!!!

  • I think that we expose children to religion to give them a sense of morality.

    Maybe it's just better to teach them about morality without religion.

  • Wow.. it is scary to think therenare people out there like that.. those poor kids!! It is already planted in their little heads...I think the parents are already a lost cause and unfort. alls we can do is pray for those kids!

  • RYC:  Yes, you're allowed to roll down your windows in the wildlife park.  You buy feed and you get to hand feed all of the animals when they walk up to your car!!  Its awesome!
