Featured
Last night, proving yet again I have no life, I was watching the Xanga team live on the front page. Except I'm pretty sure they weren't live and I'm pretty sure it was from the " chat" week, when they were live. Anyway, I heard one of the guys ( sorry the name escapes me) say something about people complaining when they are featured, but then they don't want to be taken off.
I have to say, that bugs me too. I hope I have never done that. yes, sometimes you get freaks commenting you when your featured, but I actually find that amusing.
For example, the time I wrote about people taking the whole Harry Potter thing a little too far. OMG, you would have thought I had written a post about how much I love Hitler. The crazies really came out of the Xanga wood work for that one.And the stupidity. I had titled it This post is not about Harry Potter ( or something like that), and then proceeded to write the whole post about Harry Potter. I had about 75 to 100 comments that went something like " THIS POST WAS ALL ABOUT HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!" "WHY DID YOU SAY IT WASN'T ?"
I was also accused of hating children's literature, hating books in general, and being in the same league as book burners.
The post was very light hearted and mildly funny ( I thought.) But people took it seriously.
My guess is that whoever chose the entry for the front page "got" it, at least I hope so.So even though it was somewhat frustrating that many people didn't " get " it at all, it also amused me. Of course a writer, even a blog writer, wants everyone to understand their little innuendos and wit. I would have liked to think I was articulate enough to have that come across to the masses, but that's unrealistic I guess. Plus it's making an assumption that everyone is as smart as me and they clearly aren't ( ha ha.)
But to say I wasn't flattered it was chosen would be a lie. I was one of the haters of the old featured. I wrote an entry once about how I was beat out on featured by a vagina ( too lazy to look it up.)
Now people are complaining about not only what is actually chosen to be on there, but they are complaining about being on there.
You know people, fame has it's price. Your going to get some freaks if your featured.
I think it's worth it. I'm on here for attention. If I wasn't, I would private all my entires.
And some negative attention is worth all the positive.
That's all I'm saying.
So Xanga team, if you ever decide to feature me again, I promise I won't complain, too much : wink:

nope, not that many people as smart as you ... & way too many people take everything way too seriously ... please continue to be yourself & speak your mind ... you make valid observations & present them in an entertaining manner -- have a great weekend!

Thank you what a sweet thing to say... You obviously get me, so your smart too!
I've always been shocked when I've made featured. I have no damn idea how to make featured. I just take the attitude of writing whatever moves me and just letting it play out.
There is no such thing as bad publicity
@ronlawhouston -
You have made featured because you write good entries, it's that simple.
@madamzephyrus -
ha ha exactly
You are one of the few people online with a brain. People without a brain are frightened by people with brains.
I made featured once and I loved it. My friend did once and was overwhelmed. I think I am bored! I love your writing!
Dear Laura,
I hope to see you featured again many times. I absolutely LOVED being featured. When in the "top five" I got 148 comments. (ONLY 148 comments!) I responded to each one. I even got a few more readers because of it. And the entry was my credit woes essay which spoke to a lot of people. (Ironic that the entry I wrote before the one which got featured was a whine about how nobody was visiting. nyuk nyuk.)
I remember the Harry Potter entry. Ironic how nobody understands irony.
Keep up the good work. Since you were my first commenter on my latest "comments" themed Xanga post, and I mentioned the "reply" feature, I should have said you turned me on to it, but I notice you blogged about the feature in your earlier entry. For once, it looks as if Xanga has added a feature people will use.
I just hope it doesn't replace visits. I nearly fell off my chair with laughter when I read your first line of the comment. "Read my entry. No seriously." (And I read it as "read", so didn't even notice the typo.)
Keep blogging in there.

Thanks, they didn't seem scared just stupid ha ha
@sfamylou -
Thanks, I guess were attention whores ha ha
@baldmike2004 -
Well as far as comments go, you win the prize for the most thoughtful, thought out comments. And you do that for everyone, which is so nice. The reply feature might limit traffic a little, but I would rather not have someone RYC: my comment on an entry they didn't feel like reading or had no time to read. I don't want anyone to feel obligated. If their interested they'll come by.
Yep. That's my daughter, Allison. She was born in November.
@novelle361 -
I couldn't wait for your reply so I went to your new blog ( well it's not new but you know what I mean) and skimmed back. read your labor story etc... She's beautiful, just like mommy.
You know what I like about you, Laura? You have a knack for being able to make me fall off my chair laughing; yet you can also write a serious entry. Many people can only do one or the other, and do neither, as well as you.
Kathi
Ha! I wish i'd seen the Harry Potter post... hehehe. And hey, look.. your site is totally tropical. I was right.
I think people that whine about featured should get friends lock or privatize everything or something.
I think everyone who wrote "THIS POST WAS ALL ABOUT..." was under the age of...reason! I thought it was hilarious.
@Still_groovy -
You know what I love about you Kathi, your a good loyal friend who always tries to make others feel good about themselves even when you have your own serious crap to deal with.
@X_naomi_X -
yes it is tropical, I was cold
@PrincessFiveandDime -
could have been the youngsters, but I think some were just dumb.
I do not mind being featured every now and again
However I prefer the featured content to be changed every couple of hours, gives some other people a chance to be up there, instead of the same people
I remember the good old days when I used to be on Featured Content .. back in the days when you could have friends' lock on and still make the list. While I admit it was a huge thrill getting on the list, it was always a pain getting those nasty and rude comments. I don't understand why people feel they have the right to be rude. That's why I engaged the lock .. to keep them out. I don't need to be told over and over again that "your 2 old 2 have an Xanga" <-----exact spelling and grammar!!
I do enjoy seeing my Xanga friends hitting the big time, but I always cringe when I think of all the nasty comments coming their way. I took it too personal, so I am laying low and avoiding the fame and fortune!!
Have a great weekend!
Alicia

I think with their new thing of reading them, that might be impractical. You would have to read x amount of new blogs and then pick a decent one every two hours. But I hear what your saying.
@DaBombMom2 -
Well that's the thing, you can't take it personally. That's what the delete and now, fun comeback reply button are for.
I like the new featured. How do they pick the entries, I wonder. Anyway, people are idiots, as you've seen. I'm sure your Harry Potter entry was funny.
@DaBombMom2 -
for example: your 2 stupid to 2 have a xanga, go play with your My Space.
@Daylily02 -
People ( someone on the xanga team) is actually reading them. Yours are always good. I should tell Xanga CEO John about you.
I love your humor!! Cool that you were featured, hope you are again!
@soonaquitter -
Thanks, that was awhile ago though. I wouldn't mind if they did it again though.
I love your entries, and I will be reading them featured or not, but I do agree, you deserve to be featured -- and your Harry Potter entry was great!
I loved the Harry Potter entry... and I ADORE the little wizard.. LOL.. I get sarcasm and irony though... so... maybe i'm just cool that way... idk...
I've never made feature. Ever. I've never really thought about putting effort into it.. for so long it was all about vaginas and crazy stuff... I'd go browse some that had made it and be sorely disappointed.....
Now, though, I do click on them if they look interesting.. But i still don't give it much thought.
RYC: and thank you for your awesome support on my site. I think you are right also... this whole thing is such a mix of problems and hold ups and issues... its going to be fun figuring it all out... but if I get lucky along the way, I don't mind the work. LOL. But I appreciate your input alot... thank you for being a good friend.
Nice post.
I don't think I'd like being featured. I like some attention, but not that much. I'd feel naked & exposed.
Right.
...and...I have no desire to read a Harry Potter book.....
We're going to go and see '27 Dresses'-look forward to a comedy--need one badly! Where is Spring?!
I can only dream of being featured. In the meantime I will hang around your site and hope some of the fame and brilliant wittiness rubs off on me.
Oh, and how on earth can you hate Harry Potter, you sad, twisted woman???
(-:
I must admit that the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree and your daughter does also does a superb blog too. I hoped that expunge would've blog more, but looks like xanga will predominately be female.
I don't think it is all self attention that you seek, but affirmation that you are not crazy and others are....That other people need to grow up and the world needs to run better than it is...
I know that animal blogs get a lot of attention but we both don't really like animals that much....The human animal will continue to amuse us...
I always think it is an honor to be featured,I loved your featured posts!
There was a time when I cared a little bit about being featured. Happily, that's no longer the case.
I could do without the new reply feature.
As for the one you sent me (re health), please do not worry. My doctor and I are on top of things. When I said I was in denial, you took me too literally.
It's like when they told me a couple of weeks or so after Hurricane Frances ravaged Vero Beach, that Hurricane Jeanne, which had already left us and was in the middle North Atlantic and heading northeast toward nowhere, that it was predicted to turn around and come back and make landfall at the precise same point that Frances had made landfall (three miles south of my house). This would prove to be true.
Nevertheless, when they told me this (we were in an ice cream shop enjoying sundaes), I said, "Please let me be in denial for at least a day. Thanks."
Anyway. The doctor said only that my last bloodwork indicates that maybe I've become diabetic. More tests are scheduled. I appreciate that you care about me, but don't think for a second that I'm not taking care of my health.
@twoberry -
I don't think that, ( that you are not taking care of yourself) that's just what you say to someone you CARE about, that's all.
@seedsower -
It is an honor and thank you
@PPhilip -
Animals are okay, but I don't have a pet soo.....
@bubblysox -
Always
@evagarringer -
I DON'T HATE HARRY POTTER! people just assumed that. That blog wasn't even a harry potter hater blog.
Thank you
@azcason -
Wait, I never said I deserve to be featured. I said i enjoy it lol.
You knew I was joking, right? Right? About Harry Potter? I was too lazy to go even further over the top.
Still, though, it's hard to understand how anyone could hate that lovely young man whose adventures have inspired literacy in so many children who otherwise would only read tag lines on advertisements.
(joking again. I should stop trying because it's just not coming out right.)
@evagarringer -
yes, did.
Oh, thank goodness. So either you're very astute (which is probably true) and/or I haven' t completely lost my ability to be mildly sarcastic. And communicate. In longer sentences than my 18 month uses.
Well, now I can truly relax. Have a nice evening!
we're always live when we're chatting!
I love your blog! Check out mine? Don't forget to comment! Come see all
my thoughts, hopes, dreams, and opinions! And tell your friends on
xanga, so they can comment too. Thanks!
