  • I can't think of a catchy title for this entry

    It's pathetic, I know, but I actually spent the entire day and well into the night at a Show Choir competition.  I have no kids in the program, and yet there I was, laying on a hard gym floor, while someone played the drums, badly.

    I was laying on the floor because you need to rest at these things, because you are usually not out of there until after midnight.  My friend and I went in the gym that held all the equipment, thinking that would be quiet.  It wasn't.

    The group did great, but show choir is very political, so they came in Fourth .  Fourth isn't a bad placement by Show Choir standards because there are a lot of groups, but we usually do much better.

    The competition took place in a small town called Milton Wisconsin.  I went to college there.  In fact we passed by on the way to the high school.  It is now the Milton College Historical Museum.

    As you can imagine, after that got around I got a lot of crap about my age.  Here's an amusing conversation that took place

    Man:  Ha ha ha, your old college looks like an insane asylum

    Lady one:  What do you mean her old college?

    Man:  Laura went to Milton college

    Me: for a year, and it's a very nice campus thank you.

    Lady one to lady two:  Ha ha ha, hey lady two, Laura actually went to that college

    Lady two breaks into hysterics.

    Me:  Did she ask " I wonder who actually WENT THERE?" on the way up?

    Lady one: HA HA HA HA, yes!!!!!!!

    Everyone is hysterical now.

    Lady three:  So it's an insane asylum?

    Me: No it just looks like one, I mean... shut up it's the only school that would take me.

    Milton High school has so/so clean bathrooms.  Those of you who have read me for awhile know my feelings on high school bathrooms.  They are DISGUSTING.  Especially our local high school.

    These were okay, but there was this

    All the women I was with said the thing always gave a new, fresh towel.  The small writing gives some warning about death.  Click to enlarge.  I don't believe that you get new fresh towel and so I wiped my hands on my pants.

    And what's with the blue?  I think it's to hide the dirty spots.  Very unsanitary if you ask me.

  • It is funny to me that something like show choir would be political.  I guess not surprising but still funny to hear.

  • I wipe my hands on my pants most of the times to save on paper towels. Looks like I missed the I am traveling notice and am surprised that you got to see your old college.

    No schools accepted me when I applied to them. However I snuck into the UC of Santa Barbara because they need bodies mid year and take junior college transfers with no fuss.

    I haven't donated to the alumi fund for my University nor do I have much contact with anyone. I do read about Betsy Gebhart who is a reporter though...

  • I think all youth groups are political bleh...

  • @TheTheologiansCafe - Isn't all life political?  Who you know, who you sleep with?  Who you pay off?

    @PPhilip -

    I ended up getting into better schools my second year

  • @screaminginmyhead -

    Hey we had a great minds moment again....

  • LOL... that towel thing EEEEEEEK germsssssssssssss

  • I remember those towel things but they had white towels in them. Somebody must have died using one or there wouldn't be that disclaimer. Probably by sticking their head inside the towel to read the tiny print and then strangling themselves.

  • Ewww...is right!

  • You know you're old when you start a sentence with "I remember when this was...."

  • @PrincessFiveandDime -

    ha ha probably

    @Scentsible -

    Good, I'm not crazy, people get it

    @ronlawhouston -

    I try not to do that  YIKES

  • Injury or death?  LOL!!  Only in America.  And roller towels are gross.  I can't believe they're still in existence anywhere.

  • I hope you had fun.
    & in response to that towel thing- ewww, gross. I thought our brown papertowels at my school were bad but apparently there is much worse. Blech.

  • @Daylily02 - I am telling my friends even medical people think it's gross

    @DiscordInTheGarden -

    I did have fun thanks

  • Wow I haven't seen one of those towel things since I was in school. And I think the blue is to hide the dirt because the ones in my school were always white. Well, they were white when they started out. At the time though, I was a kid, I didn't think hygiene was as important as I do now. I would have done the same thing, or just fanned my hands in the air flicking the water off onto everyone.

  • Ok...I don't know what happened, but xanga ATE my comment! GRRRR

    I keep purell and a purse sized bottle of clorox anywhere spray handy for just such an occasion! That towel is disgusting, and I thought they did away with those revolving things years ago!

    I'm glad you went to the preformance regardless of having kids in them or not. I really missed not going to the winter concert this year because I felt foolish going without having a kids singing.I'll go next year. I enjoy it, why not?

  • I did Show Choir in high school and I LOVED it!  I keep wishing they would start a Show Choir that adults could join...but that you don't have to audition to be in. hahaha

  • @perseykhad -

    I'm sure the blue was to hide the dirt

    @flaminredhead -

    I went to the winter concert too.  I didn't care.  I love Holiday Music.

    @mom_da_bomb_14 -

    That would be fun, but i wonder if anyone would come see them ( us) perform.

  • very true...but maybe they could set us up in front of some kind of previously taped video audience with an "applause/cheering" audio track.  That would satisfy me!

  • I could so not move that much and still breath enough to sing. Needless to say, I am very very impressed.

    The towel though?  Much better to not wash your hands than dry on that.

  • @evagarringer -

    agreed on all fronts

  • I've never felt those were sanitary either... how can it be??? Unless theres some 200 degree cleaning system up in that box.. how can it be??????

    ew.

  • I went to the University of Oklahoma.  I think, seriously, as a stupid kid who liked to follow football, I wanted to go to a school that had a great football team.

    I think I'd have been better off, better educated, had I gone to a place like Milton.

    So many mistakes.  So much time to regret what might have been, had we been wiser in our youth.

  • eeeww I hate those towel things!

  • I hate those dispensers -- gross!

  • @twoberry -

    Milton wasn't a great school at all, you would not have been better educated.  trust me.

    @bubblysox -

    It's not

    @ThatsMrsMayor2U -

    Yep, ewwww
