Pansexual
What is a Pansexual and why am I talking about it? Good question, first things first, a Pansexual is...
Pansexuality (sometimes referred to as omnisexuality[1]) is a sexual orientation characterized by the potential for aesthetic attraction, romantic love and/or sexual desire for people, regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. Thus, pansexuality includes potential attraction to people (such as transgender individuals) who do not fit into the gender binary of male/female. Some pansexuals suggest that they are gender-blind; that gender and sex are insignificant or irrelevant in determining whether they will be sexually attracted to others.[2]
The word pansexual is derived from the Greek prefix pan-, meaning "all". "All" is specifically in reference to human genders.
In its simplest form, pansexuality denotes the potential of sexual
attraction to all genders. It is intended to negate the idea of two
genders (as expressed by bi-).Now the why am talking about it.? No I am not a Pansexual, closet or otherwise. In fact I just learned this term a few days ago. I was on the front page, and read a featured web blog and they wrote about gay marriage, which they support, as do I. Then she ( meaning the blog writer), got a comment from someone saying they are pansexual. Rather than embarrass this person and ask a million questions about their sexual orientation, I made the choice to look it up.
I was somewhat disheartened to learn this is the first I was hearing of this word. I'm hip, I'm happening right? I thought I knew it all. I know that any time, no matter what day, Maurey Povich is doing a who's your baby daddy show. I have my pulse on coolness. I went to see Avenue Q! I watched puppet sex. I work with gang bangers. Waz up Mo phuckers, Yo. I ain't tryin to hear that. How you gona tell me? How you gona take points off some booshit, bogus, charge? Oh sorry, I went on a little tangent there. The point is I always considered myself to be in the know and in the now, until this new word popped up.
I don't want to offend any of you Pansexuals out there, but it sounds like your the type that will just do it with anyone. Although as I said, I think I'm a real cool cat, I don't get that.
I get gay, I get hetero. After that, with the metro sexual etc... I get lost.
However, just because I get lost, does not mean I'm not accepting. I
realize, just because I don't understand something, does not mean I
have to be against it. Sure I would prefer people pick a side. But that's because it's easier for me to understand.Maybe they really can't pick a side. I believe people are born gay and
it's not a choice. Although with a select few, I wonder if environment
did have something to do with it. But that's another blog and I don't feel like getting into it. For the most part, I think sexual orientation is something that happens at birth. Maybe people are born Bi too?
Maybe people are born Pansexual? I'm not ruling it out, it just seems to me most people are gay, or straight, period.
I have had girl crushes ( my daughter taught me that term), that is when you find a member of the same sex ( in this case a girl or rather woman) attractive, and you like her a lot, but you don't want to have sex with her ( or him in the case of a boy crush, for a guy). I am totally herosexual, when it comes to romantic feelings and sex, but there are certain women who I find very attractive and I enjoy their company, and I could see why men would desire them. This doesn't make me Bi-sexual either, since as I said, I don't have any romantic or sexual feelings towards them.Bisexuality is something I don't really understand. It seems like most people who identify themselves as Bi, are really trying to closet their gayness, or they are trying to be all " I'm so cool, I like both". I say be gay and be proud, you don't have to pretend to like both sexes sexually. Of course, not being gay, I guess it's easier said than done ( the whole be gay and be proud thing.) Maybe, people are born Bi, but like I said, all the Bi people I have known, are really obviously gay. So are these pansexual people trying to be " man, woman, used to be man, kind of a woman, hermaphrodite, I'll date you, cause that's cool?" Or could be it that they really have to potential to be attracted to anyone?
All this Bisexual, pansexual, just confuses everyone. And now we have that pregnant man, who is really not a pregnant man. He/she is a woman with a vagina and uterus ( no penis, no testicles.) Which I guess is a transgendered person who has not had the surgery yet. Which again, is fine, except he/she is not a pregnant man in the sense of " Oh my God, a man got pregnant" kind of pregnant man. And if he/she were to be with a man, then they would be a gay, transgendered person, which makes no sense because then they could have just stayed a woman. Except they say no because there is a difference between gender and sexual orientation, and that just gets all mucked up.
I can't keep up. I'm all for love everyone and I'm certainly all for being happy in your life, but again, all these sexual, just confuse me.
But when it comes down to it, I'm all about two consenting adults, do your thing? As long as your not molesting children, raping people, or hurting animals, I got your back. But if you don't mind, can we just stop introducing too many terms into the mix?
I'm just not smart enough to follow.

I thought pansexual meant having a cookware fetish. =:p
@fullmetalbunny - ha ha ha ha ha. Yeah, I wonder where the Pan part came in. Oh never mind it says that in the definition.
I went on a (one) date with a Pansexual. He later said he became gay because men were easier. We did tease him and call him an omnivore. He was really in love with himself too. (I'm not sure of the true meaning of this mini but thought it was funny.)
@Isismoon - Really? Well see, that ups your cool factor a lot. Guys are easier? Humm, not sure I would agree with that, but I never crossed over, so I'll take his word for it.
Ahahaha, fullmetalbunny's idea was a good guess. It would have been mine, too, as "metrosexual" was the most current term I knew, too!
It's a little too "out there" for me! I think it's overlap, too. Ther term almost makes me think of something the government will one day use to say that we are being discriminatory unless we are "pansexual" and accept everything under the stars! LOL

hetrosexual - opposites attract, gay - same sex attraction, bi - same sex & opposite attraction. really having a hard time understanding this pan thing, since last time I checked there were only two sexes , male or female. pick one and you're it I know there are medical mystery's people born with both sex organs and that kind of thing but really this seems like a bunch of mumbo jumbo if you ask me.
As far as I know, we humans have only two sexes: male and female. Let us say that our species had three sexes: male, female, and kemale. One would be bi-sexual if he, she, or kee had a preference for any two of the three sexes as a partner. One would be pansexual if he, she, or kee had no preference at all. But, we do not have three sexes. As far as I am aware, we have two. (One is not enough and three is right out.) To use the term "pansexual" is sort of like saying, "The entire cast of 'Sleuth'." It almost seems to infer a condition exists that does not and never has. On the other hand, if there WERE another sex (kemales), then pansexuals have already declared that they could find people of that imagined gender to be attractive. But how can they know? Does my discussion make the whole thing more clear now? If so, I don't know how that can be. I'm more confused than when I finished reading your entry!
And I just read an article in New York mag about some autistic people who think their parents should just bug off and let them continue to bang their heads until they get a concussion and poop in their pants since "that's who they are."
Well, that's a new one for me too. I guess it means I'm getting old...I can't keep up anymore.
My gay male friend would just call them sluts.
I think a better word for this group would just be "confused and easy." Seriously.. I'm with you, why make it so hard??? Just pick a side and stick with that team. Egads. I personally have trouble "getting" bi-sexuals... I just think its confusion. I get gays. I get heteros. You prefer men or women... either or... but preferring all??? I don't know... if you like both men and women equally...doesn't that just make you bi???
Yeah... I'm confused.
And metro... I think those are just the guys that you would SWEAR are gay... they have all the signs, all the right wardrobe, the right grooming habits, the right tastes in music, food and shoes.... but they are married to women and have children. LOL.... girly men. LOL.
Wow, that's a new term for me too! Geez, I'm getting old and more confused as the days go on.
@Still_groovy - or their will be some kind of discrimination against pansexuals for sure
@illgrindmyownthankyou - yeah, I agree your a boy or girl and in rare case a hemaphordite ( both) but even they are usually assigned a gender
@coffeeiv - well those are kids ( I would think) or they are at least people who can't make decisions for themselves as they are mentally unable to do so. I really do not begrudge any thinking young adult or adult for being who they are. Banging your head on a wall is harmful. Having a loving relationship with someone is not. So we will have to agree to disagree on that one.
@MixedUpMale - huh? ha ha ha ha. No I'm really lost.
@WakeUpLaughing - yep, you and me old foggies
@Get_Real_64 - ha ha ha. exactly
@bubblysox - yeah pick a team ha ha ha. As for metros, some of them dress better than the gay guys I know, not so much girly as put together.
@comet555 - yeah pretty soon we'll be sounding really old. Oh wait I already do.
You are exactly right - what two consenting adults do in private is no one's business - when it does not involve children or anything illegal, who am I to judge? I just don't get how someone's being gay (or bi or pan or whatever) really bothers anyone else.
@cindyjg - well I guess some people feel like they have to have control over other peoples lives.
Pansexual is definitely a new term for me. I really thought straight, gay, bi, and transgendered covered all the bases. Well, I guess you learn something every day, huh?
I'm with you, I don't really care, I think that pansexual is just another way to say "I'm more open then you - and I'm cooler than you are too!"
@queenoscots - yep, now you can use the word and people will be impressed ie: Why I think that persons a pansexual.
@azcason - yeah, or they are sluts like someone else mentioned ha ha.
Lol, I think Pansexual means that a person will engage in sex with anyone or anything. It's my guess that this includes horses or stones...
Oyf. I caught a glimpse of one comment and opted not to read the rest.
I'm known the term for a few years, mostly because I have a few transgendered ("MTF" or male-to-female) friends. If a guy likes a girl that looks like a girl and acts like a girl, but happens to have been born with a penis, is he truly gay? Is he truly bi-sexual if men do nothing for him? He just happens to have met this great girl that just happens to have born with a penis, but he still likes girls. When we first meet someone and become attracted to them, we can't see what's in their pants. You may have been sexually attracted to women whom looked and acted like men and never have known. Would that make you gay or bisexual?
On the topic of bisexuals...and I'm not trying to say anything against you...this is just my observation... Isn't it funny -- how not just yourself but a lot of people -- believe that, at least in some cases, environment could play a part in being gay, but nobody ever mentions that environment might play a part in being straight or bisexual?? Take a child that was born gay and subject them to years upon years of Disney movies and fairy tales where the guy gets the girl and the oodles of movies and books about male and female relationships, romances, weddings and all that fluff that pop culture pushes in our faces on daily basis, telling us that "this is the way everyone should be!" and tell me that that couldn't at least cause enough confusion to create bisexuals, if not potentially make someone that was naturally gay straight. Does anyone believe that girls are born wanting to marry a prince, live in castles and have fairytale weddings in which doves fly magically over head the moment that an old man in a black suit announces, "You may kiss the bride!"?? No, it's learned from those movies and books. And look at how many women out there desire those things. If they can condition that into us, who is to say that they can't influence that we want a prince instead of a princess?
Do pardon my blog within a comment box...you've touched on a rather passionate subject for myself, for I know what's it like to have someone find out that I fall into the "bisexual" catagory and give me that look. The look that says, "Oh, you poor thing! Did daddy touch so now you run around making out with women to gain the attention of men and sleeping with anything moves? Pity..." even though I've had far fewer sexual partners than the majority of my "Sex in the City"-loving straight friends and no, daddy didn't touch me, either.
I feel as if I've had my lesson of the day. I'd never heard the term pansexual. Maybe it applies to someone who prefers pandas??
@fullmetalbunny - ROFLMAO!!!! That is hysterical!!
I have never heard that term either, so i am feeling out of the loop to...but NOT NOW...I feel like @fratmom - and I just had a much needed lesson....lol
@fratmom - I like Pandas does that mean I'm Pansexual? ha ha ha
@Spying_Mom - These things are always important to know
@jesusthepsychic - well, I think it specifically stated people. How do you do it with a stone? ha ha.
@filtered_sunlight - This blog was kind of meant to be light hearted. I tried to make it clear that I wasn't trying to diss anyone and that it was mainly a subject I didn't understand. You seem to be offended which is SOOOO not my intent. Since you were serious in your comment, let me answer seriously, I honestly have NO idea how sexuality comes about. I do think there is a birth factor because I have worked with kids my whole adult life and have predicted a few boys as being gay at very young ages and have turned out to be right. As far as how much environment plays, it might have a big impact on all sexual orientation. I have no idea. I think from an evolutionary standpoint, most people are born Heterosexual, otherwise the human species would die out. I never said anything about Bi people being sexually molested by a parent. By environment I meant other things that I choose not to blog about in this blog as I said. I'm sorry you were offended by this or any of the comments. I always enjoy your comments, so I hope your not upset.
@momofjenmatt - No offense taken from you. The one comment that I read did go to show how narrow-minded and cruel some can be, but suppose that would be why I don't read their pages. I tried to be informative from the view point that I've gained from having some amazing friends - male, female, and inbetween.
I read all of this and I am still confused(loss of cool points right off the bat) If someone is a pansexual, then we are talking strictly about sexual activities? If that is the case and they will bang anybody, then are they highly sexual, or nemphomaniacs. Bi-sexuals are more about having relationships with either men or women.....right? Including sex of course.
One thing I have learned is that I don't know it all and I definitely can still be shocked, dispite having been a real hellraiser in my youth. So pansexual is my latest new word too!
