Holiday stories
My Niece Natalie 3 years old: Daddy sing me a Hanukkah song
My Brother David: sure honey, Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel, I made you...
Natalie interrupts: NO!!!! Not that one ( very agitated by now)
David: Oh Hanukkah oh Hanukkah Oh light...
Natalie: NO!!!!!! ( starts to sing) Guess who eats together at the Cawnagie dewi
Bowser at sha na na and Arfur Fonzewelli
Jennie: ( finishes)
Paul Newmans half Jewish, Goldie Hawns half too
Put them together, what a fine lookin Jew
HA HA HA...The poor kid is half Lutheran, so I guess that's the extent of her Hanukkah repertoire.
I have to say though, it was the cutest version of the Adam Sandler Hanukkah song I ever heard and it was very cool that a three year old knew the words. At least sort of.
I decided to be Jewish this year and forgo Christmas at expunges family and get Chinese and see a movie. Unfortunately, the Chinese restaurants in my home town don't realize they are supposed to stay open on Christmas for the Jews.
Thank goodness for I Hop.
I saw two movies, The Benjamin Button one and Slum Dog Millionaire.
Reviews:
Button movie:
Brad Pitt is gorgeous. I mean the man is seriously hot. The movie was weird, and long, and the end kind of gave me the creeps. But it was different and good, and Brad is REALLY good looking, even if he did dump poor Jennifer Aniston and then have five hundred kids.
Slum Dog:
Really, REALLY, good even though it had some sub titles. Usually I don't like to read my movies, but there were only a few so it wasn't that bad. Stay through the credits even though that was VERY strange and had NOTHING to do with the tone of the movie, or the movie itself. Ok. fine, here is a spoiler, they do this strange Indian line/show choir dance in a train station during the credits.. Odd.
Both Movies got claps, but I thought that was because it was Christmas day and people were just happy to have the day off.
Movie one I got an aisle seat and no one sat next to me and it was great.
I snuck into movie two ( yeah whatever, like you have never done that) and got punished by getting stuck between two elderly loud couples.
This prevented me from seeing movie three which was going to be Doubt. I was cranky by then so I came home.
We had a very white Christmas and Matt and his friend started to make a very cool igloo. Today it is a huge puddle.
Igloo making
Slacker
Almost done, but never to be completed : (. They were too lazy to put on coats. And as I said it is now a puddle.
I have to work New Years Eve and Day. Yeah, Thanks Safeway. Way to screw over the one Jewish employee who wouldn't work Christmas. And by one Jewish employee, I mean I am the one Jew who works there. The other one molested a boy and is now in prison. But hey, I had movies to see and I Hop to eat!I did work Friday and the boys complained about Christmas dinner. I'm sure it was much better than the prison food they could have been eating, but try telling them that! Well actually I did and it didn't go over too well. : sigh:
My favorite Chanukah present was money. Expunge gave the kids two big change jars for Christmas, I got nothing, but it might be because we are divorced and I'm Jewish. Anyway, I thought the change jar thing was funny and kind of clever. Unless it doesn't add up to much, then it's dumb.
That about sums it up. Happy 2009. See, all you you freaks who thought the world was ending in 2000? well we are still here and everything is relatively fine.
So there, weirdos.

Happy New Year! One year I was a dj and had to work Christmas because we didn't have enough Jewish people. I don't see why people don't see having a lot of religions as a good thing.
@Isismoon - Lots of religions are good, but working on Christmas when you're Christian is kind of lame I guess.
A jar of change can be a big amount of money, depending on if there are quarters and dollar coins in there....
It sucks even more to be on call for work. You can't make too many plans and you may not get paid if there is no work.
I suppose you also saw the sex in the city movie? Maybe that would be more your type of movie? Anyway I hear that more people went to see movies this holiday, I guess because less of them got presents this year to keep them occupied....
@PPhilip - Nope no sex and the city and I agree being on call would be worse.
a nice breezy post, dear. Gelt ist gelt, plus it's fun and instructive to count the coins and add up the cumulative value. Math skills, y'know.. Here, even on nat'l TV, the hannukha songs are out of key. Why'd we deserve to get such awful musick? Makes you want to sneak into Bethel AME (African Methodist Episcopal) just for the tunes. btw, I'll bet some of your clients will one day thank jesus they met a toughie wit a yiddishe kopf, and got turned around. Shavua tov/ yonatan
..and the profile pix? My S.O: for her 54th birthday yesterday she made me take this picture, so she could be 'famous on xanga' too.. I laughed, with her, not at her.
Poor igloo.
@jsolberg - Gelt is Gelt, I should remember that in the future when I find a penny and then think, some poor sucker should find it and I leave it there. I could be rich by now with all the pennies I left in the street.
@DiscordInTheGarden - It is sad, it died.
Ha ha I was thinking of this song as I saw ROD CAREW having a pre-Christmas dinner here in So Cal, listening joyfully to the holiday carolers. He converted? Really???
What lovely snow! We were up at my sister's in Evanston the other day and marveled at the lovely foot or so of fluffy snow. All we had is three ice storms which left a 2 inch thick layer of ice that causes us to fall down when we walk. It's all melted now - back to mud!
The niece singing the Adam Sandler song is priceless!
wooooow. Ive never seen anyone make an igloo before! Thats cooool. Where do you live? East coast but what city? I think Virginia or something.
@sfamylou - I guess?????
@musicmom60 - The snow was pretty nice.
@oOBuBBLes711Oo - Chicago area
china court by dominicks is usually open on christmas. the chinese restaurants in san diego also don't know they are supposed to be open. the one we ordered from was like the worst chinese food ever. the kung pao chicken didn't have a speck of spice in it
The part about Bowser and the Fonz is my favorite line from that song.
Thanks for the movie reviews.
Sorry you have to work on New Year's. Celebrating the New Year with the kids from Safeway doesn't sound like too much fun to me.
@Jami86e - We Jews know our Chinese. I like Hong Kong in town.
@getreal64 - No, I think it's going to suck, thanks for commiserating though.
Did you give expunge a gift since he does do Christmas? Just wondering.
This is too funny. I love the part about the niece. How cute.
the niece story is friggin funny. hahaha. and nice pics,yo. thanks for sharing them. happy new year!
I went to see Valkyrie and Spirit with some friends (will post about this soon.) Valkyrie was OK but Spirit was a waste of money. I want to go see Benjamin Button today and will also probably take a look at Seven Pounds. Need to find some time to sneak in a viewing of Frost/Nixon.
In other news, I've been watching a lot of foreign film lately and as such have had to read subtitles.
@fratmom -Actually I did get him a book about a week before Christmas, so that was his gift.
@hilaw - no prob, thanks for commenting
@ProfessorTom - I went to see Doubt today. It was good as far as the acting, but again, strange story. I heard seven pounds wasn't good.
sounds like a pretty good holiday to me. except that the chinese restaurants were closed. haven't they ever seen the movie, 'a christmas story'?
last year that is exactly what ken and i did for christmas....we didn't have an kids and we went out for chinese and a movie! lol...it was actually nice...this year we had the kids...had a big loud family christmas
@coletteatsea - yeah, no kidding.
@bradybunch07 - yeah, I wasn't into loud this year
I've never attempted to build an igloo (not that I ever had the opportunity). It would have had to happen when I was young (back when it used to snow in Northwest Louisiana at least once a year), before the days when the building inspector went riding around looking for construction projects that did not have permits and government inspections.
That snow is GORGEOUS. What perfect perfect snow for Christmas (and that other unspell-able holiday you celebrate (-: ). Any snowball fights?
@MixedUpMale - And it has to be the right snow, not just any snow will do
@evagarringer - Only with the boys at work
