Dear Mr. President
Featured grown up topic 2009. As America experiences a changing of the guard (so to speak) next week, I am wondering: if you could talk to a world leader, past or present, who would you talk to, and what would you say?
Dear almost president Obama,
You never got back to me with my first letter, but I'll let that go for now. So how goes it? Party time tomorrow huh?
Yeah have fun with that, I actually have to go back to work tomorrow, so I'm going to miss your inauguration. Bummer. Most of the country is really excited about you being prez and you have absolutely raised America's cool factor, but there are still some people who are never going to be happy with you.I have heard some people are annoyed that you chose a "smart" team, people who went to really good schools. Yeah, I know, those people are not to bright. They want "real" people on your team. I don't know like maybe Joe the plumber or something.
Can I just say, I am on your side with this one. When it comes to my money and my life give me smart people anytime. Not that plumbers aren't smart, but I think you know what I'm saying here.
I mean really, it's like we're all back in elementary school where it is not cool to be smart. Frankly I have had enough of the dumb America. So I'm glad we are on the same page.
So yeah, I'm just as excited as the next guy about your inauguration, but as usual the media is going way over the top.
There is NO reason my soaps have to be preempted. 12:00 noon Eastern time sworn in, make great speech, news talks a bit about it, and then All My Children airs at it's normal time. Don't you agree?
It's a good thing I have Soap Net.The whole day, every channel is inauguration! That's just silly.
I mean they are going to over discuss this day to death. I might have to take a TV. break.
But please don't get me wrong, I am almost as excited about tomorrow as I was about Big Love last night. Do you watch that show? Or does Michelle? Last nights show was so good.
And although I am interested in Michelle's clothes, talking about it all day will get on my nerves. Poor Michelle, after she picked that bad dress on election night, it's going to be hard.
You know it's kind of like you're the Beatles, that must feel good. Just don't let it go to your head.
I have heard you're arrogant, which I DO NOT agree with at all, but all this gushing could easily make you that way.
Be careful, people are so fickle, I worry people will turn on you for the littlest thing.
Speaking of being careful, was that really smart going to that Chili Dog place? It was so crowded. There are sickos in this world. The news clips made me nervous. You could have been shot. Please use better judgment in the future. You are just going to have to have the Chili dogs delivered from now on.
I was wondering, do your girls fight? I was so mean to my sister. Hey, do you need a baby sitter? I kind of hate kids, but I'm REALLY good with them. And your kids are at a good age, I would make an exception for you guys. I would need to be flown out there, and I would have to spend the night, but I wouldn't charge much.
Stock the fridge okay? I am diabetic, so I'll need a bunch of sugar free things. Oh, and if you could get us some movies, that would be great.
Anyway, have a good time at the balls. I hear you have to go to like 10 of them, wow, how did those old guys do it? I can barley stay up past 10:00 pm.
I hope you quit smoking. Chantix worked for me and trust me I smoked hard core. Two years sober or whatever, try it, it does help.
Much love ( in a non romantic way),
Laura momofjenmatt

very well written
@mstigerfrogs - well thank you
@momofjenmatt - all your blogs are well written.
Aww, Laura, I always enjoy your posts. Don't go anywhere else, okay?
Kathi
@mstigerfrogs -thank you, that makes me feel good. I think some people don't " get" me, but you seem to so thanks again.
@Still_groovy - thanks, where would I go ?
Hehe, I refer to Facebook, which has stolen Xanga pals from our midst!
At least, if you go there, I hope you'll stay here, too!
"... do your girls fight?" Oh, please. They're siblings. They fight. Overall, I think that Obama has included/excluded his kids about the right amount (and especially that time when his daughter asked just the right question so that he could correct his location... it really does pay to have smart kids sometimes). Now, all this having been said, I think that the American public heard/saw way more than we should have of Presidential daughters Carter, Clinton, and Bush. I can't help but believe that there should be WAY more privacy. I don't know how that can be handled, but I hope, for those girls' sake, that it is handled. I know that there is always going to be someone disrespectful and there are always going to be nosey people who have to know everything. If that is the case, then some soap opera character needs to have two cute daughters that they can get addicted to watching on TV. I say leave the President's kids alone! (Thus, Laura, if you babysit, I do NOT want to see any "truth-revealed" blogs here about the Obama girls.)
@momofjenmatt - i'm glad that made you happy
Yeah they are going over the top but it wasn't enough so you had to write about it.
Look if they wanted to do it right he would have been sworn in today.
But he ain't the beatles. And don't worry about him. Worry about people like me who don't make the change like I did long ago. They are still using despicable words. And it turns out Words of Love are much more fun.
I'm completely with you about All My Children. Thank goodness I'll get home early tomorrow and will be able to watch soapnet at 7 and find out whether Kendall woke up; otherwise I'd have to wait until midnight.
@MixedUpMale - okay fine, I won't tell that they went to bed late and that they ate all my sugar free Popsicles
@exquisite_christine - thanks : )
@kulamulla - I didn't write about it, I wrote TO him per the featured grown up writing prompt. I did not write over and over about this historical event, using the same words and then write another blog same day and say the same thing. That's what drives me nutso about the media.
@musicmom60 - That would be tragic ( watching at midnight) and I think she is waking up because her month honeymoon in real life is over ( must be nice) so it's time. It will probably be at the end of the show though. Personally I don't know what a heart problem has to do with coma but whatever.
It's so conversational! I love it!!
Great addition to the letters!
I keep getting told to watch Big Love. Maybe I will try an episode.
I pray that nothing suspicious will happen tomorrow. I also pray that someone will be alert enough to help catch all those suspicious people.
I wonder at what age a younger daughter can feel like they are smarter than the older daughter. Maybe most younger daughters give up?
I wonder if Laura was the older or younger daughter? You at least should be a better writer than your other sister.
@Krissy_Cole - well you have to start at the beginning. You can rent season one etc... It's SO good.
@PPhilip - I was the eldest in my family
What a very wonderful letter.
Sorry I havent been visiting but really down.
Michelle's dress is very lovely.
i think you will like it much more than the one she wore on election night.
but i am still nervous about the one she is wearing tonight.
i want to be the President's dog sitter/dog walker/pooper scooper.
that's where the real interest is! LOL
@awish4you - Oh I'm sorry. Can I help?
@coletteatsea - I love her dress! beautiful color. If you are wondering why I'm home I called in sick ( which I am) but not sick enough to be off the computer
"You are just going to have to have the Chili dogs delivered from now on." Bill Clinton loved fast food, and if I remember right, he had it delivered.
I share your concern about the nuts out there. Just reading some of the stuff on the internet is scary. Do you know that there are still some who think he was born in Kenya?
Funny. I had two sisters and always fought with the oldest. Never had even harsh words with the youngest. We all get along great now.
Goodness! All this talk about Michelle's clothes. Betcha nobody can tell me what the Prez was wearing...
Hahaha!! Funny stuff and very well written!
