  • It's cause I'm Black, right?

Let me preface this by saying, cover your ears I am going to yell , I KNOW THERE IS RACIAL PROFILING.  I know and agree that black people are stopped, harassed, and have false arrests made against them.  I personally get uncomfortable, if say, I am alone in an elevator with a black man, even if he looks professional.   And I KNOW it's irrational, especially because I work with perfectly nice non-rapist black men everyday.

Having said that, I really get tired of SOME black people using it ALL the time.  I agreed with Obama about the Harvard professor thing, even though he should have watched his wording.  That was probably a case of racial injustice and it does happen all the time.  That's a fact.

However, the other day I was watching Prime Time Crime and the Michael Jackson story was on.  A former patient or someone like that of Dr. what's his name, said the media and cops are focusing on this doctor because he's black.  No, it's because he was THERE!  Yes, Michael had non black doctors, and they are being looked at too.   But of course you are going to focus on the guy who was there, who had money problems, who was his 24/7 doctor, who tried to resuscitate him, and who left the scene.  I was so irritated and wished I was the reporter.  I wanted to say, "  OMG, are you really saying that on national TV.?"  You are going to say that the ONLY reason this Dr. is being looked at is because he's black?

I mean really?  Are you kidding me with that?

At work, our group of boys changes about every 4 months or so.  Boys leave, new ones come.  Almost every group has one black boy that will accuse me of being racist.  I have heard the question " It's cause I'm black right?"  so many times I can't even count.  Usually it's because I am giving him a consequence. Sometimes though it is because I told them to do their math, or get to work.  I say "  Tyrone ( the real name of someone who said it to me last) you need to do your math NOW or I am taking points"  and he says something like " Man, you racist, it's cause I'm black right?"  "  You don't be sayin that to anybody else, you never say that to Tom"  We look over, Tom is doing his work.

I used to argue, try and defend myself, I am tempted to lie and say I am half black, but now I just say " yep, it's cause your black."

Last night, my friend, who calls himself a " reluctant" Republican, said every time he disagrees with Obama, he is accused of being racist.  I know that happens to other people too.

And I have heard from some Republicans, reluctant and otherwise, say that black people ONLY like Obama because he's black.  Which in SOME cases is probably true as there probably are some racists who don't like Obama due to race.

But these sweeping generalizations piss me off.  As I said, black people get the short end of the stick in this country, still in 2009, but ...

at some point I just want to say," no, it's not because you're black, it's because you're stupid", and just leave it at that.

  • Wow, I didn't know you were into controversial topics   I like it.  Good job.  And I agree completely.

How often does that happen?  LOL...

  • @radicalramblings - usually, I'm not.  But I got annoyed.

  • you obviously have not had your daily dose of white guilt. There is no way you could disagree with the breadth of experience and brilliant ideas that our president has to make us the most prosperous nation on earth with the cleanest air and the healthiest people.

His policies will keep the climate from ever changing, his windmills will replace that nasty carbon monoxide and his cars and his car companies will be the envy of what is left of the world when he is finished.

Excuse me. I need to refill my kool-aid.

  • @momofjenmatt - Hehe.  I hear you.

@ProvokingThought - There's plenty being passed around in the comments on my last post, if you're running low.  They'll even mainline it for you.

  • I agree with you!  In the Harvard professor case, I feel sorry for the woman who called the police.  She is being called a racist, and she never mentioned anything about anyone's race in her call!  I think she should have been invited to the brewski pow-wow yesterday.

  • Can't we all just get along??

  • @ProvokingThought - you were being sarcastic right?  I know I'm good at recognizing that. I actually like Obama, and most of his ideas, although not all.  This was more about the race thing.  In fact it was ALL about the race thing.  I only brought up Obama in relation to the Harvard guy and the comment my friend made yesterday.

@Still_groovy - didn't know that piece of it, but yeah, poor lady, that would suck.

@Sugarzees - That would be nice.

  • " no, it's not because your black, it's because your stupid"

...I would change it to "No, it's not because you're XXXXXX, it's because you're stupid."    Change the XXXXXX to ANY Sex/Race/Religion/Ethnicity/Disability/Sexual Orientation/etc.  Stupid people are my pet peeve.

  • @emeralds - well, yes, you could do that, but I was kind of refering to the kids in my classes that ask " it's because I'm black right?"  that's why I used black.  I have never asked " it's because I'm a Jew right?"  Even though there are a lot of anti semitic people in this world.

I don't like stupid people either.

  • @momofjenmatt - It was rank sarcasm. Many really  do believe that if you do not agree with Obama it must be because you are a racist as they do not understand how you could not agree with his policies. It is their worldview. I remember when a reporter said he didnt know a single Nixon supporter when Nixon won by landslide in 1972. It is a insulated worldview.

I have seen others use the race card in a argument when they just dont have a good counter argument and the purpose is to end the debate because of the fear of being tagged a racist by a coward. who would use those tactics.

Obama is a good family man who loves his wife and children and provides a good example to the black community about how a husband should be part of the family. Disagreement with his policies has nothing to do with his race or creed. I disagree with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid too

  • @ProvokingThought - very well said !!!!

  • I agree with you. Although race is still an issue, it's not always about race. I can't stand it when when the race card is played when someone doesn't have a leg stand on in an issue...like your student not doing his work and then accusing you of being racist because you call him out on it.

  • @WakeUpLaughing - well said!  And the black doctor, nobody gives a crap about his race, it would still be the same outcome.

  • great blog! I agree completely!

  • Ha ha ha ha! Yes, we have had that happen with a tenant before, we were jerks because she was black, not because she wasn't paying rent and was trashing the place...

  • @miss_order - Glad to know it's not just me
    @XxRainyxMondayxX - thank you

  • Totally, completely couldn't agree with you more.

  • @LiLRoCkStAr2003 - why thank you, always nice to be agreed with : )

  • Obama shouldn't have said anything about the Gates arrest in the first place.    It's out of his jurisdiction.  (Yes,the President is the top law enforcement official in the Federal government, but this was local police, not federals.)

Sometimes he should learn to keep his mouth shut.   Then again, he can't convice Biden to keep quiet.

Gates was way out of line here.    Police responded to a call of a break in.   His neighbor and the police were there protecting his home.   He should have thanked the officer and his neighbor for looking out for his home, not accused them falsely of racism.

Now, the real moment of tension was Biden's attendance at the "Beer Summit."     Yeah, that's what Obama needs... "Gaffs" Biden with a few beers in him.    That's the more concerning lapse in judgement by the President.

  • @BB61 - I see your points and they were very well said, however,  I see the other side too.  I guess it's always a matter of perspective.

But yeah, Obama needs to watch his mouth sometimes.  Or at least think before he speaks.  But sometimes things evoke a lot of emotion an I can understand why this would.
